    For anyone that's watching now, DON'T put the Slide and Valve Needle from a different Carb in New Carb. Also just advice when doing Carb work treat that Needle like it's made of glass, don't just toss your slide & needle on the dirty driveway or have it hanging off the end of the throttle cable banging around.

    I had a small dirt cheap pitbike 70cc branded "samurai" once. These modern chinese pitbikes have developed lightyears in quality. However the problem with the samurai wasn't trash carbuetor, but it was the needle inside the carbuetor that was adjusted too tight. The needle has several positions you can adjust it and if you wan't to get power out of these dirt bikes just adjust the needle to longest travel position so that the throttle opens full. The problem wasn't the carbuetor. Samurai went from bogging to about 50 miles per hour. It was pretty enough speed for the 10" tyres. These carbuetors are exactly as good as any Mikuni. It just waste of money to invest those upgrade.

    • @razablanco3766
      @razablanco3766 Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yeah, but the original carb is machined and jetting it or anything is not possible. The mikunu carb is a much better carb.

    • @Zanderman2000
      @Zanderman2000 Před 4 měsíci +3

      If you adjust needle travel to middle (neutral) position. Screw airfuel ratio 1 and half open these chinese carbs will run absulutely perfect.

    @timdoyle8199 Před 4 lety +36

    Part of the learning process also is possibly up jetting the carburetor or down jetting sometimes you need a little bit richer mixture and also the air fuel mixture usually about one and a 1/2 to 2 turns out adjust it with the bike warm and find the sweet spot (where the idol comes up a little) Then back it off about a quarter turn open so you know you're not to lean....

    Lean idle - adjust af screw
    Bog at part throttle - raise the needle
    Bog at wide open throttle - use larger main jet
    Sputter at idle - adjust af screw or use smaller pilot jet
    Sputter at part throttle - lower needle
    Sputter at wide open throttle - use smaller main jet
    ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS check your tappet (valve) clearance before making any carb changes/mods/adjustments. These engines are notorious for leaking valves due to zero tappet clearance. The compression should easily hold the weight of your relaxed leg on the kick starter. If not, check valves.
    These engines are very easy to tune and the stock carbs work just fine.

The 140cc has had rough idle since new and no matter how I adjusted the air fuel screw or pilot jet sizes the problem remained, checked Valve clearences and whaddya know, they were tight! too tight, so I adjusted them to spec and all is now running perfect!

    @ExoticMoTioN that plastic gasket is to thermally isolate the carb from the heat of the engine, its so close that it would cause the fuel to vaporize in the float bowl more than without it. that foam air filter will filter better and flow better if you use proper foam filter oil or spray. you should also be swapping the Chinese spark plugs out for genuine NGK plugs. adjusting the valve lash after an hour or so of running.

    Spring has nothing to do with gas flow and thus, has absolutely no effect on bogging/fuel starvation whatsoever! The spring simply effects how quick, or slow your throttle and slide respond, up n down inside the carb.
    If its still bogging, you may need to play around with air/fuel mixture and/or jetting sizes.

    The two o rings on the manifold to carb aren’t supposed to be together that’s why you have rev hang when you release the throttle to idle. Air is getting past the carb and into the engine so it won’t run right at high rpms because your fuel air fuel mixture is now off no amount of tuning will fix this until you flip around that spacer simple issue but greatly effects the performance of the bike

    Just bought another pitbike myself and had a similar problem. It’s got a YX140, and I’m pretty sure the guy I bought it from had changed the carb at some point.
    But from what I’ve learnt, if it’s bogging when you quickly open the throttle, it’s running rich and needs leaning off.
    If the throttle is hanging when you let off, it’s running lean. But it could be down to a few things. The best thing to do is check for any air leaks around your manifold (spray a bit of carb cleaner or something around it, if the revs change, you’ve got a leak). Then make sure your throttle cable has no kinks and isn’t getting stuck somewhere. If all of that’s fine, try turning your air/fuel screw a 1/4 turn clockwise. It should be on the bottom of the carb. That’ll make you air/fuel mix richer.
    Also, check the spark plug, that will give you a good indication of how it’s running.
    In my case, I think the carb I had didn’t have the right jetting. So I bought a genuine Mikuni VM26 (665 Model) from ParkerRacing here in the UK. Works an absolute dream. Wasn’t expecting much of a difference really... But, fucking shit, it proved me wrong!

    That pink tube you removed is a drain just like the one on the bottom of the carb. The drain on the side helps to keep your carb from flooding the engine when you lay the bike down or flip it over, removing that tube wont hurt anything but its gonna dump gas all over your carb & engine if you lay it down/flip it over. The drain on the bottom makes sure the carburator bowl doesnt get overfilled while normal riding.

I've always been taught lean pop Rich Bog think when the carburetor slide opens and then there's a hole there for the air to suck air into more readily if there's too much fuel it bogs for a second because it's hesitating while it goes the extra air it needs for that rich fuel mixture to burn
