    Thanks for another lesson Andrew, I can feel how much you care to make your explanations as simple as you can to help even the basic english students getting the meaning of the expression.
    Teacher, Is it a right use of "time to spare": We need to talk, Do you have some time to spare?
    Thanks in advance Andrew 😉

    • @CrownAcademyEnglish
      @CrownAcademyEnglish  Před 4 lety +2

      Yes that is correct. "spare" can be an adjective or verb.
      When we say "spare time" the word "spare" is an adjective, modifying the noun "time". The meaning is "free" or "available."
      When we say "time to spare", the word "spare" is in fact a verb. The meaning is "give". Another example is when we ask someone for money. - "Do you have £10 to spare?" (verb)
      Also you hear homeless saying the following when they are begging for money: "Do you have any spare change?" (adjective)

      @CrownAcademyEnglish  Před 4 lety +1

      Hello, thanks for your message.
      You can say "Yesterday, I wasted time doing nothing because there was nothing to do."
      "sharp" is an adjective to describe a pointed surface. Example. "The knife is sharp."
      Best wishes,
      Andrew

      Crown Academy of English I love your videos! 😊👍 They’re calm and well explained. 😉 I’m a French guy who teaches English in Vietnam for 11 years. 😊 (I try not to have my French accent, but it’s still better than Vietnamese teachers! 😂 BTW, my nickname here is Mr.Bean. (but à 110kg fat one🤣). It was gave to me by my students in 2008 because of the similarities of my clownish moves and face mimics! 😅

      Hi Fransisco, thanks for your positive comments regarding my videos. :) I studied IT in Bordeaux for a few years (through the Erasmus program) and then did a work placement in Paris for 9 months and that is how I learned French. :) Congratulations on your teaching in Vietnam. Your written English is very good. The Mr Bean nickname is hilarious. Do you drive a mini ? ;)

      Yes, very similar but "on time" means punctual and "in time" means slightly early or punctual. Also "on time" is for regular, timetabled events like trains, buses, flights, meetings etc. :)
