    Hey man, been Thinkin about puttin a 383 in my 99 obs single cab, how drivable are these? Cause I take my truck to shows and I usually drive it I wouldn’t drive it probably more than 2 hours, so I just wanted your opinion on how you think 383 would do on a 2 hour drive at the most

    • @southerncruiser1281
      @southerncruiser1281 Před 2 lety

      Very drivable

    • @whatta7793
      @whatta7793 Před rokem

      Built right, just as drivable/if not more drivable than your regular ole Vortec 350.
      You could bore/stroke your 350 out to a 383, use all of your accessories. The spider injectors are limited to 300-350 ponies, so if you're wanting to go beyond that, then I would recommend a Holley Sniper, or carburetor. You will need a transmission controller if going with a Sniper or carb. Fitech makes a good trans controller, it's around $600 if I'm not mistaken, and will make for good tuning for your 4l60e.

      If you already have your own block
      Stroker kit -1500-3000$
      Machine shop labor: 1000-1500$
      If you install yourself: FREE
      Heads - 1700-2000$
      Valve covers - 270$
      Headers - 175 - 1200$
      Distributor HEI - 100-240$
      Intake - 300-500$
      Carburetor- 350 - 800$
      Radiator - 300-400$

      Spark plugs - 100-120$
      Oil (break in, first 500, first) - 100-300$
      Coolant - 70$
      Accessories- 300-400$
      bolts and miscellaneous- 200-300$
      That’s more or less what you would spend if you do it yourself.
      Crate engine: 3,500 - 8k~
      If you build an engine from the ground up using brand new parts then you’ll know what you have and can be either cheap or expensive depending on what set of heads you get. The crate engine is a good option if you dont want to risk anything and have warranty incase something blows. It can be cheap or expensive depending on who you buy it from and what set of heads the engine has on it. If it’s cheap it probably has stock or some camel humps. If it’s expensive you’ll probably see some AFRs or Edelbrocks on it. Don’t spend anything above 5k without the engine having good heads on it if you decide going the crate route.

      These strokers under 500 HP can keep the cost down by using factory blocks, Scat 9000 cranks, I-beam stroker rods and forged pistons. The enforcer heads are $1k - market price is around $6-7k for intake to oil pan. When things go over 500 HP the cost of parts jumps up quite a bit.
