I agree. You don’t need a wedding planner. Me and my fiancé planned and found our own wedding vendors. It’s such a fun journey. It’s also a practice for couples for problem solving and figuring things out together (an important thing that you will continue to do in your marriage).
I am the groom-to-be trying to self-educate.

I don't want to sit around while my fiancé plans the wedding. The humble truth is that I emotionally quite sensitive so I feel huge warm feelings which bring tears. I am also quite intimidated by the process.
I am however, very happy about the engagement and have taken a new view point of my fiancé's parents and things like the potential for being a parent in the future is far more of a concrete feeling now rather than a half-dream.
I had a wife who cheated which broke my trust. I thought would not marry again but now I have a relationship which I believe in. My partner and I are deeply committed to eachother and it feels good.

The last dance idea is so sweet. My husband and I aren't dancers so we aren't having a dancing wedding but that sounds so stinking adorable for those who love to dance.

I would agree with a lot of what you're saying. The only think I would say is.. Yes, don't give into the pressure to keep everything traditional if that's not you're thing. But also, don't give into the pressure to keep everything trendy either. If you want to mix and match, go for it! Do whatever fits you and your style!

Hi Courtney! I must say you are wise beyond your years! Our daughter recently got engaged on V-day, and I'm trying to soak up advice/opinions, just like you said. I agree with most everything you've commented about but of course not everything;). I married my HS sweetheart in Vegas after dating 8yrs, and my mother gave us a reception a few months later. Been together now 41 yrs total, long-distance relationship, college and 3 kiddos out of college and all, so our first wedding to plan. He and I are very excited for her wedding for next year and am sharing your video with her. I hope everything went well for you as I haven't watched your other videos yet. Thanks for this! I got engaged October 2nd and getting married next October the 14th and so far have gotten a lot of the bigger things out of the way (venue, dress, makeup artist) and I’m so exited ! I don’t know why though I have to say I want my fiancé to see me for the first time on the aisle because it gets his most genuine reaction where everyone sees and on the footage of our actual ceremony but I also totally get why many do the first looks, as a photographer / photographer assistant the first looks I have witnessed have been absolutely beautiful! One alternative I really like is the first look for the dad or special family member 🥰 great video on the timelines , ideas etc 🤍
Totally agree with challenging as many traditions as possible to make it your own!
Two words: guaranteed minimum. Ask your caterer if they require one. Lots of pandemic weddings had to downsize and didn't notice that their catering contacts require you to have a guaranteed minimum amount of guests to feed. If they do, maybe don't give them the highest number to quote you because they can more easily adding more guests than subtract.
SUCH a good tip!! I’ve heard of this happening to people and that’s a really good idea to give a lower number of guests at the beginning!
I honestly have watched so many videos about wedding planning, budgeting, tips, decorating, so so many topics. But your videos have helped me keep things in perspective and feel really good and excited. Thank you so much for giving practical tips while keeping the eye on the real prize!

Of course! I’m finding that because we are planning a really non-traditional wedding, a lot of things on CZcams don’t really apply to me, so I’ve been doing a lot of sifting, which is fun in its own way, but also a lot of superfluous information. I appreciate that your videos are inclusive to lots of different wedding types and you encouraged non-traditional ideas. ❤️
Also side note - I’m from Maine so Boston is very familiar to me and Charleston where you did your mini moon is one of my favorite places ever. Fun to have those things in common.

I love this video so much thanks for being so genuine with us Courtney. I liked that you mentioned that things will go wrong regardless of our vision. I think this is a great reminder. I also saw another wedding video that mentioned that the morning of the wedding the couple hired a yoga instructor the day of their wedding. They invited the bridesmen and groomsmen and did some yoga before they started their day. I think that idea is great just to relax and feel a little less stressed the day of the wedding.

Great q! We planned it so that we danced privately while everyone was lining up for the formal exit / it was the perfect last slow moment before celebrating our reception exit!
Thank you for sharing! For your ceremony music, do you mean when your guests are finding their seats or are you planning for music to play during the actual ceremony? Usually it’s a quiet time so I’m very intrigued by this!
Of course! So for ceremony music I mean while guests are seating yes and also while parents, groomsman + the bridal party enter! (not during the actual scripted ceremony, it’ll be quiet then) good question 🙃
Though I definitely think wedding planners are a luxury and not necessary in most cases, I will say that for some people a planner can be really useful. Wedding planning is a ton of work, and if you aren’t that good at planning and organizing then you probably do need someone to help you along the way. Plus, planners have contacts with other vendors and can often find better deals on things because they’ve been in the industry for a while and have more knowledge.
I’m not using a planner, however, I purchased a package made by a wedding planner that acts as a helpful guide to follow for the wedding planning process. Plus it comes with videos that delve into certain topics that might need more discussion before you decide what you’d like to do.
Also, I love the idea of a private dance! Will you guys wait until everyone has left? Or will you go somewhere private for it? My fiancé and I are doing a fake send off after the cake cutting, so that people don’t feel like they have to stay the whole time just to be there for the grand exit. So I’m wondering how we’d be able to incorporate a private dance before the DJ packs up, without shooing everyone out.

Hi!! Yes totally agree and I think if u do your research and a wedding planner is better for you, go for it. I just think so many people are pressured into feeling like they need one, when you definitely can do it on your own! So we just got married in June & we did the private last dance as everyone was lining up for our formal exit so you could totally do that while your guests line up for your fake send off OR you could literally wait for everyone to leave at the end of the night and do it then. Talk with your coordinator and try to create your own way of doing it that works best for you. It was one of my favorite parts of the whole night 🥰

I'm not using a wedding planner either! I'm doing my own research, BUT the venue I'm booking has recommended vendors and such that I can get discounts for using so I don't have to try too hard about searching for florists, food, etc. ❤
The only reason I’m doing the wedding diet, is because COVID caused me to gain about 50 lbs. I’ve never been this heavy and I’m not naturally this heavy, I just wasn’t able to hit the gym or be active during COVID. I would like to look like myself at my wedding instead of how I look now.
totally understand that!! hopefully you know you’re beautiful no matter your weight but I think if anyone is unhappy with their current health situation (whatever that may mean) then it’s great to set goals + your wedding can absolutely be that goal! I just think people are pressured far too often to lose weight + it shouldn’t be such a big concern around such a special time in life!

I love this! We are dieting for the wedding but simply because we are both rather big and not very fit and my fomo will kill me if my weight slows me down on the day or on the honeymoon 😂 we also want to try for a baby shortly after the wedding and us being a same sex couple means we are at the mercy of a doctor and we’ve already been told that my current weight will be a huge factor when going through the process and finding a Dr to help us
Hey there Courtney & Jonathan ; My second marriage was absolutely awesome. First off , when I first met Donna , I was a Luggar truck driver picking up aluminum and steel turnings from various machine shops. Donna was a maintenance mechanic
at one of these plants. This was in 2004 , June or July , I decided to get her a coffee from Tim Hortons during work hours and
get to know her better. Anyway , long story short , I asked her to be my Girlfriend in February 2005 , she said yes :) then Sept 14th 2005 I asked her to bring herself and her oldest boy David to my favorite Restaurant where I asked David if I could have his blessings in me asking his Mother's hand in marriage , .. David looked at his Mom and said .. " See I told you so " to which she started to cry which put a lump in my throat and I asked her if she would Marry me , to which she said yes. We were married on the farm , Blue jeans and white shirts and tops , on May 13th 2006 , Mother's day. I can tell you that we were very in tune with our hearts. ( Just a little story to bring joy to everyone's hearts. )

What's the difference between the tasks/duties of a wedding planner and a wedding reception manager? As a matter of fact, _do_ wedding receptions have a professional manager?
Hello!! I got eloped secretly in 2022. We are doing our big wedding in May 2024. No wedding planner used either. I’ve used CZcams and myself and family and friends. However, we do have a day of coordinator so its less stressful for day of. And lucky enough the day of coordinator is our DJ.

great question! mine ranged but two examples were that I wanted to have an open bar for my guests and I wanted hand painted invitations to set the mood for the wedding. I was willing to spend extra on those things and cut back on flowers/other details, etc that weren’t as important to me

Hello, New here. Watching this video. I am not entirely familiar with the Unity Candle/ Brides Family tradition. I am familiar with the unity candle. I have seen the mothers of each side light a candle, an then the bride and groom light the middle candle. I have never heard of doing it as a candle from the brides family. Could you explain that
hey! so it was a unity candle that my mom and dad lit at their wedding, so they gifted it to us to light at our wedding - so my husband and I lit it together 🤍

I'm currently doing the same. We have been dating for 7 years so a short engagement makes sense for us since we have the funds and a home to go to so no sense in having a long engagement.

This is for anyone who is currently planning their wedding, not any specific person:
I literally just got done watching a video of a wedding coordinator who made a list of “10 things your guests don’t care about” and a lot of the things mentioned in this video were on her list (as far as party favors, she even inserted a video of herself at a wedding pointing out all the wedding favors that guests left behind on the tables, floors, etc.)
I’m not sure if you’ve looked into any videos like that, and of course everything in your wedding is your choice and what you want to do! But maybe just keep in mind the extra things that aren’t on your list of must haves (like mentioned in this video) will likely be overlooked. So if you can or if you want to then maybe you could save your time, money, blood, sweat, and tears and put it towards something else!
