In this video I clean and restore an NEC PC-Engine (aka the Japanese Turbografx 16). If you want to see how to clean a TG-16, go here: • Gamerade - Cleaning an... - Zábava
I started to watch your videos back in 2012 and I can't believe it's already been 4 years and you still never fail at making great content ;)
whats up with the controller cord? why didnt you clean that?
That’s melted styrofoam. The controller cord has a “plasticizer” that softens it. The plasticizer sweats out over time and melts other stuff if touches, like the styrofoam if it was stored in the original box or the console plastic if you wrapped it around the console or the controller itself if you wrapped it around the controller. US TurboGrafx-16 cords do this too which is why so many controllers and consoles and RF switches have these strange “burn marks” where the you see tiny ditches melted into the plastic. If you have one, do not store the cord where it can touch the plastic!
Great job, as always! I remember the first time I got a PC Engine-I was (and still am) amazed at how small it was! The AV cables were so thick, I thought they were going to pull the console off my table!
just wanted to say to keep up the good work Adam! I don't have half of these systems you do cleaning videos on, but I have seen them all because they are all so interesting!
+Taylor Martin Thanks!
Thanks for the video! I would like to see you talk about that add-on on the PC Engine.
Awesome system with an awesome library. I love my briefcase setup!
aww sweet perfect timing. I just picked up a Boxed PC Engine with a R-Type a few days ago, Might clean it up properly when I get the chance.
+The Unfunny Chameleon Awesome!
Great video - I would definitely be interested in a video on that component adapter you show at the end.
Adam, you rock! Next time you're in Canada hit me up!
great video good sir! I would love to see a Sega CD Model 1 cleaning video. :)
Hey Adam I love your videos, you explain everything so well. I was wondering if you could do a video about cleaning and restoring a Gameboy Advance.
Love watching the cleaning and restoration videos keep them up. The Dreamcast one helped me immensely recently as I got another Dreamcast finally. Used yr tips for compressed air etc. In the U.K we use Windowlene instead of Windex (same thing). Then use polish (pledge) after.
Also yellowing on the pad, have you tried hydrogen peroxide? I used that to get rid of yellow. Worked a charm not sure as good as yr Canada salon stuff, but worked.
can you give anymore details on that hair product? im in australia, we may have a similar product
AdamKoralik great video. When I use the Salon 40 I use a lamp with a reptile UV bulb. Saves you from having to put it outside.
I also don't use pledge. To add sheen to my consoles I use a very small amount of extra virgin olive oil on a micro fiber cloth. Then use another clean micro fiber cloth and buff it all out. Works great on all consoles but works extremely well on black consoles like Sega Saturn, Genesis, Sega Sports Dreamcast, etc... maybe try it out sometime and let me know if you like the results.
I would love to have one of those !
I would love if you did a video on the component dongle and where I could buy it.
Adam, I'm a big fan of your videos! I really want to see you clean and restore your original model PS3 60GB next. It would really help me know how to maintain my own and prevent the yellow light of death appearing.
Great vid. Would like to see how that passthrough works too.
Nice vid adam now I know how clean my CoreGrafx 2
love your videos man. I realy wanna see a game cartridge restoration
+James Crowley Thanks.
Awesome info.. thanks!
loved ur video as always u rock
+natalie cepeda Thanks.
+AdamKoralik I really wish I had a pc engine, the system looks really fun.
Can u clean and restore a TTX Tech PS2 Controller I don't think it's the same as the original controller it might not have the same components inside of it
Will you ever do a cleaning and restoring video for a PS3 slim?
Adam if you use a blacklight with the volume 40 Creme on the snes will it not create streakes? Please try to answer
+The random 2 productions I tend to use sunlight, it's just more efficient.
+AdamKoralik but you said in your deyellowing easy method that if you put in sunlight it will leave an unbalanced color(streaks).
Adam would you do a video on cleaning hucard's and sega cards there are loads of videos on cartridge cleaning but none for cards that I can see.
I couldn't love this console more! I had a PC Engine Core Grafx back in 2009 and had a great time with it, even though I only had like 4, 5 games. Regretfully, I sold it and now, if I want to buy another one, I'll have to pay 5, 6 times the price I paid for it in 2009. Damn, I was so stupid selling this console...
Do you have a Turbo Duo you can do. I actually have one coming in next week
+Adrian Smith I wish.
Hey I know this is off topic from this video, but how does one clean an N64 cartridge? Instead of blowing in it?
+WonderRobin Windex and q-tips.
Adam i got a Pc engine core grafx 1. Do you know wich cd add-ons i can buy for it ? Since i'm not familiar with the different types of cd loaders and pc engine consoles.
+kumikochan Nah, you'd have to ask someone more knowledgeable on this console. :/
+AdamKoralik thanks! Well if someone does know on here, let me know
+kumikochan You can use a PC Engine CD ROM2 or a Super CD ROM2, Super CD model is much more rare and therefore several hundred dollars more expensive then the latter. There were some hardware changes made between the two the super cd has an updated bios more data storage and there are many games that take advantage of this
www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=PC+Engine+CD+ROM+system&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=
www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=super+cd+rom+system&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=
+Evan Bongers ha thanks. don't seem to be that super expensive. thanks for the help !
Did you still use the UV light Adam?
+GamesOverBro Some times, in this case I just went with sunlight.
I tried deyellowing my Super Nintendo last year. I applied the raw cream on the vessels and ended up with some strange patterns on the plastic, I assume the thicker parts of the cream created shadows that interfered with the process. I found out that mixing the cream with some bleaching powder (like Vanish), reacted creating a thick foam that helped achieve a more uniform deyellowing. It may take some more rounds of it, but the end result looks pretty good ¦)
I'm not a huge pc engine fan like some people out there but I've got a turbo express which I've played for a long time.
holy crap the rgb signal is awesome adam
+David G Yes sir!
+David G Yes sir!
hopefully enough people including wants to see a video about the adapter :D
man i would so love it if the NX or whatever other future consoles (assuming there are any) used cards.. definitely the coolest looking format for games imo. more expensive and less capacity than discs tho, so probably not..
Well looks like you’re right
is this video part of your quick shoot series?
Figure it out
+TheOldPianoRoll rolf
+TheOldPianoRoll >_
hey Adam could you give us a room tour for all your games and consoles please :-)
the key to using the hair cream for de yellowing is to make sure its an even coat, it needs to stay wet when its in the sun, I usually wrap the case with the cream already applied onto the case with plastic wrap (a single wrap) to keep it from drying out as fast.
but by far the best method ive seen is just use a bunch of hydrogen peroxide in a tub and submerge the case in the liquid (the tub has to be clear and hopefully doesn't block UV) and set it out in the sun (or use a UV light) that way it it wont dry out, it will be an even coating so you wont have to worry about bright streaks or splotches due to drying or uneven coats. the only downside to this is that you do use a lot more hydrogen peroxide then you would any other way. but you do get the best results.
The cartridge port cleaning instructions sound really sexual
i can certify that some pc engines (mostly later models) use gamebits, all mine have had them.
Can you do a 6th generation video on the PC engine?
+Roy Evritt The PC Engine is fourth gen: czcams.com/video/yVqz-sTzvHs/video.html
+AdamKoralik F*** why did I say 6th? Of course it's fourth!
What Year Did The PC Engine Came Out?
Thanks.

From Wikipedia:
"The TurboGrafx-16 Entertainment SuperSystem, known in Japan and in France as the PC Engine (PCエンジン Pī Shī Enjin?), is a home video game console joint-developed by Hudson Soft and NEC, released in Japan on October 30, 1987"
Can you do cleaning a 3ds xl
+Supershadic1000000 The warranty would probably expire if you did that...
no im not new i just thought he could do it
Do you plan on cleaning a Wii anytime soon?
+WrathofHiei Nah, way too complex.
What's the average price for a turbo grafx/ PC engine
+Shane Day (Madlogic) turbografx 16's are pretty expensive. PC engine's are kind of cheap
+Ethan is Cool is the PC engines library of games any good? I remember Hudson made some games for it, but beyond that I don't remember much.
people say that most of the great games were only released in japan like street fighter 2
+Ethan is Cool is the system region locked? I mean if the good titles were mostly Jp exclusives, would I have to buy Jp PC engine to play them or just use the NTSC model?
it's reagion locked, unfortunately
I like your Darth Vader table cloth!
Cool
Milton eh?, Nice did not know you are Canadian.
+Jory beer I'm not, I was up there on a trip.
also been playing space harrier on PC engine as I have to wait till payday for a e voucher then I'll download the 3 d version.
Now you can get the PCE CD, and Snatcher, and as a bonus, Fully Uncensored!
+Mygingerguy What's great is that the PCE/Turbo CD games are region free, so if you can shell out the $200-300 for a Duo-R and have an Everdrive, you're 100% good to go.
Yeah, was the TG16 ever released in Europe?
Mygingerguy Yes, but it bombed as badly or worse than in the US.
+Mygingerguy Not officially, you could get them by mail order though apparently.
+The Unfunny Chameleon Well, looks like I will be getting the PC Engine then.
I vote for a component adapter video!
got my new 3ds xl making it snow with lighting.
Great video, Adam. The comparison between a 'homemade burger' and 'McDonalds' isn't really accurate though. Chemistry just doesn't work that way. Neither does cooking, actually. Different ingredients equate to the different result not the method of mixing them. The only reason that retrobrite would work faster is if the peroxide solution percentage is higher than that of the 40vol developer, which comes pre-mixed. Varied results would only stem from varying levels of the peroxide solution or UV exposure. Also, remember that the chemical reaction taking place does not go on ad infinitum. You have to top it up after an hour or two or the reaction will just stop and the console will be sitting there doing absolutely nothing. This should definitely not take five days. If you're home on a Saturday, you could do it in one if it's in the summertime and a clear hot day as long as you top up every few hours. Lastly, you should wrap the console with cling wrap in order to prevent evaporation, something that will also stop the chemical reaction taking place.
Ive had a Pc Engine for several years but it's a complete mess of glue and wired inside. The previous owner had added a region and composite mod.
Cleaning wont be easy.
Do you have an XRGB-Mini? If not you should see My Life in Gaming on CZcams for more information :3
+Helloz World I'm sure he will eventually.
Dr. Steve Brule He NEEDS to see those videos badly!!!
Good

Too bad about your SD card that sucks. But cool video as always. Thanks.

+TortureVision Could be more than skin.
One of the previous owners may have really really *loved* their PC Engine.

-N&RUT0$HI99UDEN19'000
Console seems so much smaller then a TG-16
Doin a 75k sub ama?
+Jeff Carr Maybe I'll do a live one, would that be fun?
"Skin bits" lol
"Quick shoot series" dude, it's not quick shoot and you have no other series.. So why even have that in the beginning of the video?
he has a small company that makes movies, and on his website he has these videos, which compared to the movies are short. But I see where you could be confused I was to at first.
+Laurence Reeves I do, you just haven't watched them.
I'm early
.
I can tell ya right now retrobrite doesn't last long.
30 bucks a bottle for 40 Volume Peroxide cream? Lol cost me £6 for a whole Litre in UK
The UK does not represent all of Europe sir. Hence I said "certain parts of Europe."
Adam Koralik sorry Sir I thought you meant Europe as a whole
All good, thanks for watching!
