  • Welcome to the Colorado Junk Box art studio!
How do we get our snow crystals from the sky to you?
Here is a bit of what we do! Take a look at how we capture and preserve real snowflakes.
This channel is devoted to the art of snowflakes! Who?! What?! When?! Where?! Why?! How?!
Using superglue, you can preserve a perfect snowflake! The process can also be accomplished with hairspray and certain lacquers too.
Essentially, the snowflake preservation method works because as the glue hardens, the monomers link together in long polymer chains, a process triggered by moisture.
A chemist named Tryggvi Emilsson gets the credit for dreaming up this method of saving snowflakes. Ever fascinated by Wilson Bentley he came up with a way to preserve their 3D images. His realization was that superglue, which hardens on contact with water and prone to seeping into the most minuscule indentations and shapes, would be ideal for the job.

    This is beautiful.
Capturing a small natural phenomenon into a precious jewel.
Everyone is different, unique and strong in their own way, like snowflake. We should preserve them.

Have you ever heard of snowflake embryo adoptions? These remind me of those little babies. Each one tiny, beautiful, unique.

Did you use super gle between slides, if so once cured do the slides just pull of easily from the glue. I'm interested in trying to make a pendant like this. I've watched the steps n read online but haven't found anything that talks about getting the snowflake from the slide and then Into a mold with resin. What steps do you use ty!!
