Ligurian is a Gallo-Italic language spoken primarily in the territories of the former Republic of Genoa, now comprising the area of Liguria in Northern Italy, parts of the Mediterranean coastal zone of France, Monaco (where it is called Monegasque), the village of Bonifacio in Corsica, and in the villages of Carloforte on San Pietro Island and Calasetta on Sant'Antioco Island off the coast of southwestern Sardinia. It is part of the Gallo-Italic and Western Romance dialect continuum.

I am impressed about how the nasal sounds of Ligurian match the Brazilian Portuguese ones! Also, the definite articles "a", "o", are like in Portuguese, and the "o" standing alone or at the end of a word sounds like "oo", just like in Brazilian Portuguese! "O café" sounds just like my language sounds to me. I am Brazilian. This is the first time that I listen to Ligurian, and I was astonished when he said "tùtto bén". The "bén" got me! Had he said "tùddo bén", it would be a "Brazilian Portuguese" statement! This is the first time ever that I hear "bén" being said exactly like my Brazilian "bem". Even the people from Portugal can't say "bem" like we say in Brazil like this Ligurian man said "bén". I didn't know that there was such a language! Lovely!!!

funny how it's so similar to brazilian portuguese but it's actually the italian language that contributed the most to rioplatense spanish while most italians in brazil were from venezia

La tua maniera è arrivata al 1900 quando i felibri, venuti d'oltre varo, per andare nel senso dell'anessione francese, hanno mutilato il linguaggio nizzardo detto rustico.
È perché personalmente, e con altri compatrioti, che la norma del nizzardo moderno, è della merda con non solamente una mutilazione del vocabolario, ma anche una grafia orribile che non rispetta nessuna tradizione romanza, latina etimologica e nustrale della lingua nostra.

Brazilian Portuguese, actually. The definite articles, lone-standing "o" and final "o", and nasal sounds are Brazilian instead of French, though.

@@JonDoeNeace, portugal had a ancient celtic influnce (celtici and callaeci), but I dont know why this same prossodia of occitan and lingurian was emphasized in Brasil... Maybe because of the Galician influence, but Galicians sounds more like Spanish nowadays, I don't know about the past.

Nope. Italy is an italo-dalmatian language, while Ligurian is a Gallo-italic languages. They aren't even closely related.
I used Monegasque language for Worldcraft, Two Lights, Equation, and Rescris or Rewritten series for official website and my alternative universe than alternative history.
Please do Ciociaria languages in Southern Lazio, its a forgotten and not talked about language. Would be great to see it recognized on here!

This sounds like a mix of Portuguese and Italian with some French.
Phonetically speaking, Ligurian and Brazilian Portuguese have the same nasal sounds! I don't know if this is the only match in this aspect. As a Brazilian Portuguese, this is the first time that I listen to this match! I didn't even know that there was another Romance language with the nasal sounds like mine! Ligurian is even closer than Portuguese from Portugal in this aspect! While Portuguese people say "bem" (well) as "baim", Ligurian people say "bén" like Brazilian "bem". I'm in love with it! Now I know we Brazilian are not alone with our nasality! ❤️

Why does the Ligurian flag look similar to that of England?
The St. George's flag, a red cross on a white field, was adopted by England and the City of London in 1190 for their ships entering the Mediterranean to benefit from the protection of the Genoese fleet. The English Monarch paid an annual tribute to the Doge of Genoa for this privilege.
So the question has to be: why England has the same flag of Genoa😂

scabio caught me as an argentinian. here we call escabio wine or other alcoholic drinks. we have the verb escabiarse which means to get drunk. this is not spanish obviously it is Lunfardo.

Italian is several different Italic regional tongues.

This sounds Italian only with some French-prenunciation. I dont see a difference. Only Emilian sounds French. Piedmontese ironically sounds more German than French. At best it may sound like Alsacian German.

@@Nissardpertugiu I know Ligurian is just pure Italian with a French-like pronunciation at most.
@@Nissardpertugiu I don't know if it was necessarily -eu it just sounded a little bit. I think the French only influenced the dialect in Liguria. Not the language. I take back what i said - I now think Piedmontese and Lombardy are more French-influenced. Emilian sounds more like Alsatian German than French. Venetian sounds like German, Romansch, Serbian and Croatian mixed together.
@Nissardpertugiu Lombardy can be French-influenced in some German-influenced in others. Lombardy was more the center of Holy Roman lands while Piedmont has more history with France than the Holy Roman lands.

Columbus was not born in Genoa, Italy. Italy didn't exist.
Italy as geographic entity and cultural exist since the antiquity.
If not why before 1860 you have tons of maps and writings from different regions where they identify as part of italia as people.
