- Mansfield toilets have very different parts than all other toilet manufacturers. They have a few common issues that are fairly easily fixed if you can find the correct parts. This toilet was slowly leaking water and the fill valve would open every 2-3 minutes to refill the tank. If not identified quickly, this slow leak could end up costing hundreds of dollars a month on your water bill. The fix only takes about 5 minutes and the part costs about $3 and is available at most hardware stores.

4 years later and this video still valid! We appreciate u my guy
Super helpful! Saved me hundreds on a new toilet and installation. All it took was a new rubber ring to fix the leak exactly like this video showed. The advice to seat the ring flat in the first groove saved the day.
Always happy to help. Be sure to subscribe for other home repair videos.
Thorough yet short video. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!!
Curtis M You are welcome. I try to provide enough detail without being too long winded or skipping anything pertinent.
OMG, thank you so much for this video. This is exactly my issue I thought it was the handle I had replaced. Thank you sooooooo much!!!! Can't wait to try this out.
This video was spot on. I especially appreciated the tips about wearing latex gloves to avoid black hands, putting the gasket in the upper groove, and of course the reminder to turn the water off first. I was already pretty handy with basic toilet repair on older toilets, but this was totally new to me on my first Mansfield. And it really did take only 5 minutes. Easy peasy. Yet I somehow feel very accomplished. THANKS for doing a short but thorough video.
Thank you for the thoughtful and kind comment. I appreciate you.
Thanks for making this understandable and easy!
You helped me out with repairing this exact issue. Great video, very informative. Thank you

Thank you so much for explaining and showing how the gasket should sit properly. I saw another video that didn't explain it well so I assumed it was supposed to go around and I stretched the gasket to do so. Put everything back and ended up with a leaky toilet 😑. Found your video and you explained how it's done with such great detail, redid it how you showed/explained and voilà!! A properly fixed toilet that flushes with ease and no leak. Thank you so much! 😊
I’m glad you found the video! I had the same issue at first!
Bless you. I was about to take the tank off and enter a nightmare I wasn't sure I could handle. But I found your video and corrected my problem in less than 5 minutes with a new gasket. Excellent video. Thanks for taking the time to make it.
Somwrt Lftur You are very welcome. Be sure to subscribe. If you ever do need to take the full toilet apart, I have a full repair video also. Glad you had the easy fix this time!
This made my day a lot easier. Thanks! And Kim Stockdale that tip helped as well.
Always glad to help!
Thank you!!! My husband is on the road trucking and our toilet was so hard to flush I replaced the handle but it still bent trying to flush it. Thanks to your video I got to play mr. fix it and my kids can now pee in the upstairs bathroom 😂....i appreciate your time to make this for people unaware of plumbing trouble!!
Danielle Felts You are very welcome! I’m glad you were able to get yours fixed.
Worked just as described! Same exact setup and system. Thanks a lot!
Corey Bailey I’m glad you found it helpful.
You just saved me 50 bucks I had no idea how simple this could have been, Just replaced mine a few min's ago great video will be sure to follow ya.
Brandon Lewis I'm always happy to help. This one was super simple.
This is exactly what I needed! Worked perfectly! Thank you!

Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. You have no idea how much relief and joy you just gave to me and my lady...annoying leaking toilet for 3 months; your video and $1.98 at home depot later, total silence!!! 😎🤩😎🤩😎🤩😎🤩...so thank you sir!! Oh, did I mention that the flashing handle is smooth too now ?
Datboi9 Lugazi Thata great! Your comment made me smile. I appreciate you taking time to leave kind words.
I had assumed the red seal was suppose to be curved. I used a low grade adhesive to keep it down. It helped the slow leak, but made the flush hard.
Thanks for saving me from any more time and grief with this thing 😂
I’m glad you found the video!
thanks so much for the easy to follow instructions, fixed for less than $2.00.
Maureen Roberts That is awesome! Glad you were able to fix yours too!
I appreciate your youtube..I had this exact thing that the handle wouldn't flush the commode. So I watched a youtube and did the red ring but leaking didn't stop. I watched yours and you mentioned there are 2 grooves and the ring needs to be in the top groove. Success! Fixed! Thank you for helping me save $$$ for the plumber!
Birdie Berghuis I’m glad you were able to get it fixed.
you saved the day,, four Mansfields installed about three years ago. all had broken handles when I was called,, as you showed,, the seal deteriorated to the point of not allowing lifting the tube and breaking the handles.. NOTE,, be sure the seal can easily hand turn in position to affirm proper installation.. Thanks Bro.
Glad I could help.
Thank you so much, video was outstanding and saved me money. Well done......
Kenneth Duell That is great, Kenneth. I'm glad I was able to help you save money. Welcome to the TightWad Nation!
I love you! I'm a single mom & my 2nd toilet was broken for a LONG while. I have EXACTLY same problem. This is JUST what I needed. Going to home Depot tomorrow! THANK YOU!!!
Lo La Great. I'm glad you found it helpful. Let me know if you have any questions once you get started.
It took me only 2 min to fix each toilet. But after flashing, the new red ring is getting misplaced, and water is running trough non stop. I fixed manually few time. Still happening. I guess I need to place it lower, not just put it there on top of white ring.. But than it look like a skirt. Any advises on this part? Thank you.
Lo La You aren't getting it into the correct groove. The groove is right under the top lip of the white part. Try going higher instead of lower.
Thank you! This was a great instructional video! This helped me greatly!
You’re very welcome!
Really helpful! I have the same issue, actually broke the flush so will have to buy a few new things. But really helpful!
I’m glad you found the video!
Thanks so much! With this easy to follow video I was able to save myself the expense of a plumber's visit!
Nancy Iannone That’s great Nancy. I’m glad you found the video helpful.
What’s confusing/missing from this video is that the installation of the new seal ring can be tricky if you don’t realize the plastic piece where the seal ring is placed onto has a top and bottom groove… and the seal should be installed in the TOP groove (I think it is more intuitive to erroneously think the seal ring belongs on the bottom groove where it can seat against the tank’s black seal). At 1:40, the new seal ring is shown already installed in the correct location, without the specifics of how it got there, and what the top and bottom grooves look like. A great video showing the details of this critical step is from 0:45 - 1:10 of CZcams video “Mansfield 630 0030”.
Otherwise, this is a nicely made video showing the essential steps of the remaining job.
Kim Stockdale thank you so much that makes a lot of sense
Kim Stockdale I agree. There are 2 missing steps...the removal and installation of the ring/seal.
Thanks, I too did it wrong before reading your comment.
yes, I noticed the same thing - a little irritating. Thanks for clarification.
Thank you so soooo very much for this piece of the installation. I was so disappointed not to see how to do this in the video because I have no clue what I'm doing. I'll go look at the other video. The nice thing about this video is it's the exact same toilet parts I have whereas other videos show different parts.
Awesome thank you for sharing the video it help me 100% by just buying the ring
That’s great!
Thank you!!! I just fixed my toilet with this useful information!!!
That’s great!
Thank you so much! Very helpful !
You are welcome. I’m glad it worked for you too! I keep a spare on hand because the aftermarket ones don’t last as long as the original. I have to replace them about every 4-5 years.
Awesome - Even I can do this! Many thanks 👍
Yes! This is an easy one!
Thank you, this helped alot!
Devan5028 You are very welcome.

thank you TightWad .That looks very easy for a 84 year old Tightwad .So giddyho my Scooter and off we go to get that Seal
thanks a lot
Rudy
Rudy Pfeiffer You can do it, Rudy!
We have 5 identical toilets like this - all but one always took a ton of force to flush - broke the handle once. I was ready to junk the toilet. Never thought something as simple as the seal would cause this.
Well I really wish I watched this video before I snapped the flush lever in half but at least I know how to fix the seal thing. Thanks for including the links too!
Jason Roy At least the flush lever is cheap! You should be hack up and running for less than $10!
going to see if this my problem thanks
Nice clear explanation! Thanks!
Andrew Le Thank you. I hope you were able to get yours fixed.
Yes, bought that red foam washer from Home Depot for about $2 and installed it! Works perfect! No more leak!
It worked very well. Make sure you mentally note where the old/deformed seal goes.
It should go in the top grove!!!
I paid $3.70 (with tax) for the seal...well worth it! (ACE #210/211)
THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT VIDEO!
Bless you!!
A plumber and a baby sitter all in one... kudos to you, sir...

No problem 👍
I bought a fluidmaster complete repair kit and I replaced all the tank parts on my Mansfield toilet 🚽 tank.
That’s great!
Thank you!! Easy fix for a single momma.
Great! I’m glad it worked for you!
Thank you. Save me money
You are welcome. Always happy to help.
What a great video! Is there part number for this gasket at Home Depot or will they know it's for a Mansfield toilet? Also, I need to replace that part the screws in and holds the refill tube. Are these available somewhere? Thanks.
I think I can help! The Home Depot part numbers for a flush valve gasket (red/pink ring) is Model # 88096 Store SKU #1000055028. I also have a video showing a full toilet rebuild that you may need for your additional parts. czcams.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=Czxv1DwWB-M
Thank you! we are also having the issues with the toilet continuing to run (we have a Mansfield- same model as this video). The ball never gets to the level for the toilet to stop running. Any suggestions? Thanks!
You can bend the rod that holds the ball so it sits lower in the tank.
Great video, made the repair, but the plunger drops down too soon so don't get a complete flush, this never happened prior to repair. Any idea why?
Make sure the seal is properly seated in the very top groove of the lower assembly. I had this happen as well. I adjusted the seal and it worked properly after a couple of full flushes. Hold down the handle for a few seconds for a couple of flushes.
Thank you sir. How this video got a single thumbs down is beyond me.
randyk69 I appreciate that. I don’t let it bother me. Some people are just plain unhappy.
Wow that was easy
htnttf1 Glad you were able to get yours fixed!
I have been searching high and low for the piece that screws in (filler tube is inserted in).
Sally Tucker Try this link. Are you talking about the stop cap? www.plumbingsupply.com/mansfieldtoiletparts-heathrow.html
I have this toilet and have replaced the seal but it does like a second mini flush before the piece goes all the way down to seal the water off,any ideas what causes this. Thanks
Lawrence Garrison Post a video and tag me in it. I’m not sure what you mean.
Does the fill valve have a small hole in it? Mine does and I can't get it to flush. The waterline is fine. Do I need to replace the fill valve? I have a weak flush that won't flush everything down. Please help!
i have a Mansfield toilet and when I flush it the water won't stop running once it fills up. I have to take the lid off and pull the blue bulb to make the water stop runnin. Can you please tell me what I need to do to fix this.. Thank you
NurseToi G You can try adjusting the blue part so that it sits lower in the tank. You should be able to adjust it using the threads but the easiest way is just to bend the metal rod a little bit.
If it’s not draining enough to empty the bowl, what can I do? Unscrew the cap on top a bit so the plunger lifts higher?
Yes. That will allow more water in it and improve the flushing power.
Wow, this is a helpful and amazing What a headache this toilet has been for us in the last 5 years. We have had to repair this area (LEAKING WATER ISSUE) at least three times. I feel ignorant that one of us had not tried to find a video, such as yours, The reason I feel ignorant is, because my other half and I would go to parts store and buy that whole piece in center, that includes the gasket you showed, instead of researching first.. AND to top to off my other half would remove the WHOLE TANK to repair it, because he did not know better. THEN the removal of the tank ADDED MORE leaking issues. What a headache. So I have reached the point of simply wanting to replace the whole toilet. CAN ANYONE tell me how I can find the DATE the mansfield was made? In other words, how old is my mansfield toielt?
Victoria Post Victoria, I am sorry to hear about your troubles. I have a second video that shows a full toilet component replacement in detail. I will paste the link for you.
Victoria Post Here is the full repair video. czcams.com/video/Czxv1DwWB-M/video.html
I'm not sure how you can tell the year of manufacture on these toilets unless it is stamped inside the tank.
TightWadRepairs I just wanted to thank you for posting this video, I just fixed my toilet, thanks to you. your awesome
Victoria Post You are very welcome.
Was not sure what part of this solved the hard to flush part. The only problem I have is that my handle is very hard to push down and it eventually breaks. Suggestions?
Ven Adkins The red ring replacement makes it easier to flush. Once the seal wears out the cup sits too low on it which causes it to be hard to flush because of the suction it adds.
I wish I would have found this video before I spent $13 on a whole flush valve and then discovered I would have to remove the whole tank to replace it, and didn't have the tools to do so! Taking that flush valve back for a refund and hoping they have just the seal!
Oirvtoilet has suddenly got difficult to flush usually you get a firm feel when activation on handle bit it' has hardly anyfirmness only way you can flush it is to keep pulling down handle good few times any ideas? Thanks
Kevin Hancock Here is another video I made addressing this issue. czcams.com/video/Avah_YwtEHQ/video.html
TightWadRepairs hi thanks fur therapy I today bought a new cistern and is now fitted and working only tgungthat annoyed me was the c hook the kit was universal and as ideas shorter caused handle to rise a tad higher than I prefer I then used original c hook which was a bit better but g7essimg a slightly longer one or new handle would sort that issue it's no major thing as we will be purchasing a new suite soon enough so as long as it works it only c8st me 7 pound so cheap enough fix thanks again matey
Replaced seal but still leaking into bowl. Any suggestions?
The seal isn’t seated properly. Did you give it a spin?
Hate to sound like an idiot, but I am an idiot when it comes to this stuff so here goes...I replaced what you did and man the old ring was badly beat up but... but I am having the same problem as before where it's always running. The issue is at the top, there is always water running into the top part (right below the part you unlocked to in the beginning- right below where the little hose goes). So the water level doesn't stop below where the water can overflow into that part. Thoughts?
If it’s continuing to attempt to fill the tank without stopping, the issue is with your float. If yours has a big ball looking thing try this video instead - czcams.com/video/9oCoZSa0Fo8/video.html
Let me know if this doesn’t work and I will provide other suggestions.
This is your last resort. Your fill valve could possibly be faulty if the previous video I linked doesn’t work. You might have to replace it. It’s not hard but does take more time. Here is a video showing to replace it. czcams.com/video/Czxv1DwWB-M/video.html
Can you tell me why it might still be leaking after replacing the valve? It continues to constantly run after flushing. The water level continues to slowly decrease in the tank with a new valve. Could the water level be too high in the tank? These videos are also really helpful. I appreciate it!
Jason Rudder you must not have the pink ring seated properly. It should be at the very top lip of the valve it sits on. There is a groove just under the very top lip that it has to be in and it should be laying flat after you put it in that groI’ve. If you think it is already in the correct groove, reach down and Spin the pink ring just a little bit to help it seat properly. I had the same issue on one I fixed and spinning or turning the ring a little helped it sit completely in the groove and stopped the leak.
Jason Rudder The other thing that may be causing this is having your float set too high. There is a screw where the float rod connects to the flush valve. Adjust the screw to make the float sit lower in the tank.
TightWadRepairs Thanks! I know the seal is seated but will try to spin it. I think it has to do with the float being set too high. I noticed I had to push the flush valve float down a little to get it to stop the leak. It's not sitting tightly on the valve. Could that be because the float is too high?
Jason R yes
This helped me too! Thanks! This saved me hundreds from almost calling in a plumber. Im not sure how adjusting the ball cock screw on the fill valve helped, but im happy.
So I had this exact problem and got a new rubber seal, following the directions above, but my tank is still leaking. In fact, it is now leaking so fast that, although I can see and hear that there is water flowing, the tank isn't filling. Any tips? Is is possible that the new ring I got is defective?
Cowboy Ben Are you sure the ring is seated properly? It goes on the very top edge of the threads. There is a groove it has to sit in or it will leak badly.
Thanks for getting back so quickly. Yes, I took it off and put it back on a few times to be sure. It's definitely in the top groove and I've felt the whole way around to ensure it is really in there
Cowboy Ben Do you have another toilet in your house you could borrow the cylinder that lifts up to test on this toilet? That will help rule out an issue with a different part.
Cowboy Ben Do you have another toilet in your house you could borrow the cylinder that lifts up to test on this toilet? That will help rule out an issue with a different part.
That was a good tip. Tried switching out the cylinder from the neighbor's toilet upstairs, no change.
Was the water making a hissing sound?
Gina Maharaj No. it just kept running like it was trying to fill back up. A hiss sounds more like you have a crack in the fill valve. Can you see where the water is leaking from?
Already replaced the ring and it still hard to flush. Have broken many handles 🤣.
How long ago did you replace it?
@@TightWadDIY a month or so. It was still hard to flush after replacing it.
The one same I bought it but it’s loose
Razia Shaheer Are you sure you have it in the groove?
TightWadDIY yes but I guess I have to buy the right size 😊thanks for replying
you choose the wrong handle . for a mansfeild get the one with the metlal rod
Thanks. This is a friend's toilet and he had already purchased and installed the replacement handle before he called me. I let him know that the metal ones are better but this one will suffice for now. As long as the flush seal ring is in good shape, the plastic handles work fine.
the plastic handle is great for tanks that have flappers
My tiolet keep running
I have videos for that too! Does your have a flapper or a tube in the middle?

Im clicking your videos but they arent presenting.
Try the links in the description instead.
Thanks for the heads up. CZcams made a change after that video was published so I had to remake the end screen. It should work now.
