    I might have to buy a new toilet soon, my plumbing supply guy suggested buying a Mansfield, and doing this to get what I'm used to. Great video! Excellent presentation! Concise and to the point.

    Excellent solution to the poor flush in my 1.6 gallon Mansfield. Simple three minute fix. I didn't need the full 3.5 gallons produced by this new flush dome, so I bent the float rod down so that the toilet fills about a gallon less.

    I just got an new/old stock 3173 Alto. Was stumped as to why it wouldn't flush more than about a third of a tank. Then I noticed there were 2 holes in the flapper allowing the water to fill flapper very fast and the flapper would fall down faster than it should, resulting in an incomplete flush. I found some round plastic plug, or cap, or something in the junk drawer and squeezed it into the hole on the (side) of the flapper. Flapper now stays up longer, with a better flush. Now I find out there were supposed to be 4 different size plugs for the flapper. There were none in my box. I also see you are supposed to put one of those plugs in the bottom hole of the flapper (according to the CZcams) video I saw anyway.

  • @bwsmyhero
    @bwsmyhero Před 3 lety +1

    Is the Mansfield flapper system supposed to save water by dropping before all the water drains out of the tank? I’m wondering if doing that can cause clogs because there’s not enough water to flush the waste all the way. We have a septic tank in our newly-built house and we have had to call the plumbers out twice already because the toilet in my in-law suite gets clogged. It has a Mansfield flapper like the one in the video. I use only 1-ply tissue (and not too much of it, either), and I don’t flush anything else except the toilet paper. I don’t pour any grease or bits of food down the sink in the kitchenette; nothing but water and dishwashing liquid. What could be causing the clogs??

    • @PlumbingPartsPro
      @PlumbingPartsPro  Před 3 lety +2

      Let us know the model number usually found inside the tank. Some of the new ones do have a flapper but they also still make it with their trademark piston system. As shown in the video sometimes you can change the piston to provide more water. This also applies to the flapper style. Some flappers allow more water. Let us know.

    I have a 1.6 GPF Mansfield 160-130 Alto with very disappointing flush. If I install the 3.5 GPF valve is there a chance my tank will overfill and flood the bathroom? The installing plumber says 3.5 GPF tanks are illegal in my state (Illinois) - would that make installing this part illegal and then also invalidate my warranty?

    • @PlumbingPartsPro
      @PlumbingPartsPro  Před 2 lety

      It will work flawless. However 3.5 gallon toilets are no longer made because the government wants to "go green" saving water. They stopped making them in 1994. 2022 they are dropping to 1.2 gallon. They also regulate the screens on your faucets too. Every few years the lower the flow out of kitchen and bathroom sinks.

    SO the KEY here is the last person to change that valve was an idiot! They put in the 1.6 gal. AS SOON AS YOU COMPARED THE VALVES SIDE BY SIDE (and described the dif of 1.6 and 3.5) I knew what must be done. You saved me the hassle of removing my tank. Didn't even shut of the water, just held the float. We have wondered why to get a "good" flush we had to hold the handle longer.
