All that's required for this build are 2" speakers, some wood for the "Baffles" (speaker boxes), mounting screws and glue.
Note: The Speakers are laying flat in the first test, that's simply how speakers sit with no boards, baffles or boxes. I've seen many diy speaker setups where raw speakers are simply laying on someones desktop. These desktop baffles are an attractive alternative to that!
Cut a speaker hole in the 3/32" basswood and glue on a piece of angled wood for it to stand upright.
Stain and oil the baffles, if you like! In the video I use Coffee Stain and tung oil!
The recordings of the speakers "before and after" were all done with exactly the same playback and record settings. Nothing was changed.
Open baffle speakers will often require a nearby wall for the best bass response.
Yes, these tiny speakers do roll off quickly below 80hz, but they are surprisingly competent in this arrangement!

Looks like a really simple and effective idea!
I had anxiety for your wooden worktop with all that cutting without a mat.
Haha, yeah I try to be very careful when filming, I don't need any more holes/cuts/scratches on my desk top!
Not bad. The design is very nice!
Thanks!
@@FrankOlsonTwins You're welcome.
удевил!!! в приятном смысле. Хочу попробовать сам.
I want to make big ones!
Hah! I have what look like very similar drivers, and gave a small workshop where people had to hear them. Solution? Cardboard baffles, very similar to yours.
Works wonders, but doesn't look anywhere near as nice. Great job!
haha, thanks! I have some 5" drivers that I can't wait to try with this.
12:40 for some satisfying staining action
Thanks! Good coffee stain, right??
OB doesn't work with mini baffles.
Forgive my ignorance but why is that?

I think he is trying to say that the way the guy is doing the open baffle is wrong
Actually if you do a ob like this you don't gonna get any bass out of the speaker
A lot of cancellation occurring there
For get any bass you should calculate the f3 db point frequency by measuring the quarter wavelength theory
Basically says that the entire baffle should be extended to the quarter wavelength (wide and height of the baffle)
Example: 60 hz quarter wavelength is approximately 56 inches long
For a 2 inch speaker that's huge
But the deal there is to find a sweet spot between dimensions of the baffle and low end output of the speaker
Such ignorance even after watching the video?
A 10 meter baffle will still allow for cancellation 😂.
But you can never get 100% of anything though, not even cancellation. "Mini" baffles DO work. Try it out.
