- Sample track at the end of the video and my build process is spaced throughout this video.
- You can find the Coral Holey Basket in the Sony TC-500 Reel to Reel Player.
- The subwoofer I'm using is the Yamaha YST SW160 and the high cut pass is well over 100hz.
- The little speakers I held up were Minimus 7's, not 11''s. - Jak na to + styl
Nice work, and congratulations for the Cyrus One, I still using my beloved Cyrus two since 1989, great amplifier! :)
Thankyou! Yes it's a super fun amp like a lot of those British amps of the same era
I almost commented in your first video how very good they sound in a small vented box. Your open baffle sounds wonderful. The Tamura TamRadio SE EL84 iron is also amazing.
Thankyou 🙏
Wonderful ! Try 7:11 as a baffle ratio.
Enjoy your videos, built my first speakers recenty using the the Fostex 125kw, not open baffle but was a good experience still twaeking but the drivers are very affordable and good quality
I'm seriously considering the Fostex, they're closely related to the Coral speakers and share some history 👍
I have experimented with OB. They are not efficient at lower end.
The distance from driver to edge of panel impacts on bass roll off.
Solution mount speaker off centre in both directions so all distances are different as possible. This way the roll off points dont all add up , it spreads things out a bit so no big cliff. Larger panel better. Distance from rear wall vary important. Think mine was about a meter.
I used equalisation lift bass dropped mid and top pretty much original using a Yamaha equaliser.
I also used a Motorola piezo tweeter rear facing wired out of phase no crossover. Reflected off rear wall when came back sound in phase pretty much . My bass speaker was a 6.5 inch out of a car
Reason .... Cheap, i had 2 and they are pretty stiff made to use in a similar crap situation in a car with not much consideration to loading with a nice cabinet.
You just got to play around with.
i want to build something like this with a Markaudio driver or a dayton audio ps95...not sure yet
Love your prpduction values. Hmmm I'm on a similar trajectory as you with small speakers. I'm on a search for the best 3" full range design. I haven't tried OB yet but thinking how easy and inexpensive compared to boxes. Ill come back with a link toy channel.☮️
Thank you, I would love to put even more time in, we'll see how far I can take it 🙂
The OB definitely needs some help in the lower frequency, I'm going to try a two driver OB next, maybe with just the woofer in a box or h frame
@@vintageboulton it looks like decent base in OB relies on big cones. My horns go down to c80 hz good for most music except metal hard rock and the big orchestrals. Did I link my channel?

Did you add a filter / cap af som sort to block the low frequencies on the coral full range drivers ?
I didn't no, being full range they don't necessarily need a filter and I tend to be a bit of purist with these, not liking to put anything in between the signal. If I have a second woofer driver though I'll always add an inductor to block the highs
Hey Dude I have that minimus 7 as my desktop speakers. Love them. Cant let them go :)
By the way what do you think of coral 8tx-70?
How much power can they handle?
Would be no greater than 4 watts

Hey Vintage are you quit?
Not dead yet! Maybe something coming soon ;)
promo sm 😔
0 phase forwards, 180 phase going backwards
A Cyrus One wont make it sound better.
agreed, its all I had
Listening through good headphones and they sound awful to me.
Design doesn’t work
When you put a wide band driver on a small open baffle what happens is the driver has a rising response & you won’t have any low end bass response it will fall off because there is no front wave too back wave separation
When you see a frequency response of a driver
It’s on an infinite baffle, really large
🤦🏻
Hence the subwoofer under the desk
