I have the exact some problem on my 70 with the aftermarket valance getting too much gap with the hood latch installed... Glad to see this video.

The fit of the urethane nose came out so perfect! I would love to see more detail on that. I’m installing one now and having a heck of a time getting it to line up

Those noses can be a real challenge to line up, especially aftermarket ones. Be patient and watch what is happening. This Camaro has been done for some time now so unfortunately I can't do a video on that. If another car comes in I'll see what I can do. I know there is a lot of experience there, but it is interesting to see the amount of shape movement you get by pushing or pulling with your hands. Thanks for showing the adjustments.
IF the multi-fingered appendage aligning tool wasn't enough I would have pulled out the big guns - our bumper straighten-outer! Basically, a 5 foot pipe with a hook and chain on the end. This tool came from a time when cars had real bumpers. LOL! Thanks for watching!

This is about the best explanation/demonstration of panel gaps I have seen! One question, do you drill 1/8 holes to help with future realignment?
Hey Mike, Thanks! Occasionally I may scribe something, but never really had a need to drill alignment holes. We've seen them drilled on other projects. I filled the holes with weld and smoothed the surfaces during the restoration process.

Those mess ups are not thaaat bad. I have seen far worse and I am not a body man.
Did you heat the back of the hood and push up on the structure to remove the flat area in the rear of the hood? or just press on the structure cold?
Hi Rick, That spot in front of the driver was up a lot. Almost as if someone had the hood upside down and stepped on that area... so the structure was warmed up with the gas axe and the top pushed down to straighten out the bend. The sides had to be re-arched as well so the structure was heated and cooled with a rag. I was going to show the process, but in the end decided against it as I'm sure I'd get some flak for my approach.
This is a great video. Will you pull the front metal pieces apart again to paint or leave it together?
We still need to take care of the trunk lid to quarter gaps and hood dents. But yes, now that everything up front has been reshaped and fitted correctly all the panels will be blown apart(keeping track of shim placement), painted and reassembled. Thanks for the thumbs up Shawn. N.

what did you end up doing with the hood latch to get it to fit. you omitted that. one second it was 3/4in off and the next it fit. im in the exact same predicament with an aftermarket latch on my 70
Hi David, Yes, I did cut that part out of the video after posting it. Had a lot of keyboard experts throw a lot of hate my way(surprisingly more than the 20Ton jack in the trunk). Anyway, I rebent the aftermarket lower hood latch ass'y by clamping it in the 6" bench vice and bringing the mount flanges closer together with a sledge - first by bending the long legs towards each other then correcting the angle of the bolt flanges so they were vertical again. This got things into correct alignment with the parts in the car without using the bolts to tension the parts. It should sit naturally... I've done enough of these cars(with original and aftermarket latches) to know that the aftermarket ones just don't fit right out of the box and someone else had their fingers on this latch too. Figured if someone needed to know about the latch they could ask me in the comments. Thanks, I had yesterday off so I couldn't sit idle and actually took all the adjustment I could out of the core support and then moved on to the hood latch. I actually ended up putting the latching between my floor jack and a frame. Then used the hammer to finish the flanges where I wanted them for the holes. And then I had to take the latch off the Hood part and bolted it to to my metal Hood so I could beat the pin where I needed it to be without the flanges moving. Everything ended up lining up good with my new brace and the hood shuts well now. Thanks again for writing me back.
