The pipa knot or teardrop knot is an attractive and unique ornamental Chinese knot which has the appearance of an expanding braid with loops at the bottom. It comes from the art of Chinese knotting, which has many knotting designs similar to Celtic knotting. It is based on the shape of a figure eight and named after a Chinese instrument. Often tied in wire in craft work to make jewellery - either earrings or a necklace pendant. It can also be used to make a key chain or key fob. It can be tied with a jig or in the hand as with this technique.
If you like this sort of thing I would love to have you aboard. Here we talk about functional knots, decorative knots and have fun with loops of string.

I wanted to make knot buttons and after being frustrated by a few other videos, this one (plus the globe knot video) did the trick. The only thing that would've made it better is having see-through fingers, lol! I'm really happy with my buttons, thanks for the vids :D

I have seen pictures and videos on doing this and i am even able to do it myself. But what I have seen are only tutorials showing the easy part. What about the finishing part where u have to seal the ends to prevent it from coming off? From my experience, it would easily come off if not hold on to properly even if the ‘tail’ was slid into the centre as shown in the last part.

I just seen this video myself, and literally my first question was "well how do you finish it so it don't come undone?!" Did you happen to find out? I would love to know because I think these would make great ornaments as gifts!!!
