    Thank you so much for sharing this! Your video just saved us a trip to the ED. My husband has only had his ileostomy for about 6 weeks and this was the first time he has experienced a blockage. He was so afraid of being put back into the hospital. We are so grateful.

    My partner has had a stoma for the last 30 years, never had a blockage until today, tried all you suggested except the catheter and nothing worked. He's in hospital now, but everything you said is exactly what the GP, stoma nurse and 111 said to try, so good on you.

    Sounds like we have a similar story. I was getting blockages weekly and trying all the things you suggest but still ended up in A&E most of the time. I’ve had 5 surgeries for blockages and prolapses in the last couple years. Hoping things are on the up now. Hope all is well with you, hang in there!

    Thank you 🙏 I feel so alone. I’ve had Colectomy/Proctectomy & I get blockages fortnightly. I’m at a loss. Last time I went to ER my surgeon was there & he told the nurses & emergency doctor to send me home & refer to my GP. I’m literally hardly eating at all because I’m too scared. My doctor has got me on a movicol twice daily. My GP is the only one who seems to care. My mental health has declined as I’m always on guard.

    I found your video very interesting and informative, the catheter I had not heard of before. I've had a ileostomy for 30 years and the amount of blockages I have lost count. Over 10 operations, now still with adhesions in my mid 50s. Everyone is different, very different. Mine has always come om so suddenly I've collapsed in pain and been rushed to a&e pending for more surgery. I'm always careful with what I eat. Exercise regularly and take good care of myself. I even know the exact protocol I need each time it happens. Basically because by the time I get to a&e I am vomiting faceas, awful. So, I need 2 bags of saline through a drip, 100mg iv pethedine and antisickness through iv ...then wait. It always a shocking time and takes me weeks to get over partly because of the wonder if I'm going to die! Honestly, I've never experienced pain like it. I never know until its too late. I'm frightened that one day I won't get yo a&e quick enough before my small bowel bursts. My stoma nurse says I should get straight to a&e or phone an ambulance. The ileostomy is freeing since I had it formed 30 years ago, but the blockages for me are terrifying. And at a&e not all drs know what to do, I have to insist they do the procedure because to add to the situation by then I am so tense and delirious with pain, it needs urgent attention.

      You remind me my husband 😢, he is having constant blockage, and the pain is horrible, sometimes it ceases after him drinking advil, taking a lot of water but sometimes nothing help and we have to go to Emergency room, his quality of life has decreased so much, we barely do things together because of that. 🙄

    I just had my reversal. I threw up after a while because liquids were going down to slow, Had an x-ray that showed there's a lot of gas. I'm on my seventh day in the hospital going to start soft foods. Anyone been in the same situation. One more thing the doctor said my intestines is like a funnel probably being the reason it's not going down quick enough.

    My husband has constant blockage, the pain is unbearable he does everything you do, sometimes it works sometimes it does not and we have to go to emergency room, they always do the same they check his vitals, give something for pain, take a CT scan and says I don’t see any blockage, after a few hours of not eating the pain ceases and he feels better, my question will be how can we prevented? Do you think probiotics can help? Or laxatives?

    I'm 2 years plus with my ileostomy and get a blockage probably every 4 or 5 months. Last night I ate some olives. I'd had a glass of wine and totally forgot I don't do well on them.
    22 hours later and I've lost any appetite. My tummy is in pain as my stoma is desperately trying to work.
    I've started drinking some cola in the hope it starts shifting itself.
    I'm also massaging the stoma area. I don't have a bath so can't do as you suggested.
    If I start vomiting then I'll know before too long, I'm going to have to call an ambulance. Last time, the Dr at A&E sorted it by inserting his little finger. Worked wonders and I was allowed back home.
    Love all your tips. Thank you 🙋🏼‍♀️🦋🌸
    UPDATE:
    Blockage all sorted after a glass of coke sipped periodically and stoma gently massaged. YAY! No A&E tonight. I need to get me a catheter 🤫🤭🦋

    I’ve had 14 blocked bowels in the last 25 years. I’ve never had a doctor or surgeon tell me to work it out st home. Everyone tells me as soon as you know there’s s potential blocked bowel , get to the hospital . !!!!!!!! The potential forypur bowel to rupture is greater the longer you wait to come into the hospital

    • @gutmylifeback7926
      @gutmylifeback7926  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes very true, if you are worried or if things aren't improving then definitely go to the hospital. The sooner you notice something isn't quite right the quicker you can intervene with some strategies which may help to keep you out of hospital.
