    Loving this bike. Trek bikes can take a beating. 65 miles a week is no problem for this bike. I put fenders on it so it's a commuter now but I still ride it on long 20 miles rides and just fun rides around town. As well as my 13 mile daily commute.

      It's to be expected

    • @gulfcitynd
      @gulfcitynd Před 4 lety

      It's because of the limits of the 7 speed drivetrain most are 14-28 cassette or freewheel so the 3x chainring is there for range of gears and it's also to meet a certain price point

    • @s14tat
      @s14tat Před 4 lety

      @@gulfcitynd oh yeah I know why, I am just stating that it very ugly. This bike would need a 2x with a 11-32 to match the frame but that would make the bike $200-$500 more expensive even with just a claris groupset.

    • @Rocky4719
      @Rocky4719 Před 4 lety +2

      s14tat fair point but the 2020 fx 2 has the same 3x with a 11-32(I think) cassette. Imo the 3x looks pretty nice and is functional, but I’d definitely want to see a 2x at the fx 2’s price point

      @jackwestcott4469 Před 3 lety

      I actually just bought a Verve 1 Disc two days ago and it is my first bike since I was 12 and that was 15 years ago. So as an adult beginner, my opinion is that the bike is amazing. I took it out for about 10 miles of rolling hills, gravel, dirt, road, paved trails with buckled bumps, water crossings and it was a comfortable ride. I never felt like the bike could do better, it just handled everything with ease. The two bikes are almost identical with the fork size being the only difference so on paper, I imagine the Verve 1 will be slightly better on trails. I strongly suggest going to a local Trek dealer and discussing it with them because more than likely, your decision is going to come down to the availability. I got extremely lucky on the Verve 1 because the day I called, someone who had ordered the bike canceled the order. Otherwise, the wait time was about 3-10 months. Speak to a local bike shop and keep your fingers crossed for availability. Good luck!

    My stomach sank once you said 7spd 14-34 freewheel. A bike in this price range with a freewheel, when there are bikes at half the price from friggin' sporting goods chains with a cassette? I get that it brings the cost down, but some cost-cutting measures are just not acceptable. I can accept it for some $200 bike from Target, but not something that is over $600 (including tax) from an LBS.

    Any word on how easy the quick release is for the front tire? I travel a lot with my bike in my trunk...and to get it fit I have to take off the front wheel. For the 2020 version, can this be done quickly and without tools?

    • @Jamesthebikeguy
      @Jamesthebikeguy  Před 4 lety +1

      Plenty easy. Same as any other QR wheel, and with discs it is easier than rim brakes since you don't need to do anything with the brake to take the wheel off.
