CLIP DESCRIPTION:
A thieving customer at William's (Hugh Grant) bookstore asks Anna (Julia Roberts) for her autograph.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Can a beautiful and internationally famous American actress find happiness with a frumpy British bookstore clerk? She can -- at least for a while, it seems -- in Notting Hill. William Thacker (played by Hugh Grant) is a bookseller at a shop in the Notting Hill district in West London, who shares a house with an eccentric Welsh friend, Spike (Rhys Ifans). One day, William is minding the store when in strolls Anna Scott (Julia Roberts), a lovely and well-known actress from the United States who is in London working on a film. She buys a book from William, and she is polite and charming in the way a famous actress would be with a star-struck sales clerk. Their relationship would logically end there, if William didn't run out a few minutes later to buy some juice. While dashing back to the shop, he bumps into Anna on the street, spilling juice all over her blouse. Since he lives nearby, William politely offers to let her stop by his house to clean up; since William seems harmless enough, Anna agrees. When Anna has to stop back to pick up a bag she left at William's house, they kiss -- just in time for Spike to show up. A romance slowly blooms as his friends and family (not to mention the world at large) wonder out loud what he's doing dating a movie star. Notting Hill reunites Hugh Grant with producer Duncan Kenworthy and screenwriter Richard Curtis, who previously worked together on the international hit Four Weddings And A Funeral.

So this is how shoplifters are caught in England. So polite.
I would that it were......
"PUT BACK A FACKING BOOK"
These days you’d get acid to the face in England
nah, they'd usually have a cup of tea first and engage in small talk.
Politeness in England? ROFL!!!!
Dylan Moran always looks hungover. It’s hilarious.
Hello Daniel how're you doing today?
damn I can't stop looking at Hugh Grant's hair. It is so damn beautiful
I think she felt an immediate attraction to him the moment he gave his polite but nonetheless firm response to the shoplifter trying to sneak out with a book down his pants.
Also Anna's autograph and rejection to the shoplifter was priceless. 😁
Why
my sisters favorite movie, every time she asks me Something I dont wanna do, the answer is: Tempting, but no
Dear Rufus,
You belong in jail.
Good one.👍
Not when Julia Roberts says it. She couldn't act her way out of a paper bag.
Frank O'Brien j
You belong to jail.
@@olearysgrave k i gave u a thumbs up but comon! Watabout that movie where she lead a lawsuit vs a water company?
@@olearysgrave
- a wet paper bag with a chainsaw.
I appreciate this movie more and more as each year passes. Usually its the opposite. The reason being there were no dating apps, no social media, no smartphones. You never see them having to go through the mind games of texting or DMs or swiping. I know it's just fiction and a film but finding love was better before the tech world became so advanced that people forgot about what real means and instead now have injected duck lips in the hope of selling fake tan on apps. I'm in my 30s by the way.
i am 33 to be more exact and you seem to be right
PALE IS BEAUTIFUL.
Just ditch the dating apps or phone altogether. Go meet real people in person...at the grocery stores, parks, bookstores, pet shops, coffee shops, etc. Make friends with them...meet them face to face as much as possible..
@@rosariob9426 In fairness even though I met my honey online it wasn't through a Dating app.
seems I do better at finding the right ladies when i'm doing what I would be doing anyway if I wasn't actively chasing after women.
=/
@@rosariob9426 and risk court injunctions? Great idea!
I am convinced that Rufus is just Bernard Black's alias and that he's here stealing books because he's absolutely sick of ordering new ones, so as a result literally the entire stock of Black Books is ones that he's pilfered from other bookshops.
haha!
so I wonder what Fran and Manny were doing then
Good one!
I was just thinking about how awesome it would be if Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant made a cameo appearance in blackbooks.. we find out Rufus is actually a cousin of Bernard 😂😂😂
Found it rather touching when she said the magic word "Indefinitely".
Never walked into a bookstore the same way as before after I watched this movie.
"What book?"
"The black book"
I see what you did there
“Wipe it and put it back.” 😂😂😂
I watched this movie wayyyyyy to often
Elena Cathalina Not just you 🙂
I’m a 24 year old guy, but somehow I don’t like the modern manners in relationships
I like these old school ways as depicted in this movie 🙂
Way too often? Is that possible?
fewer y, more o
Try Serendipity then
I would love watch it with u Elena 😍
I never get tired of watching this movie and Love Actually. U.S. filmmakers cannot even come close to producing such classics.
Hello Patrick how're you doing today?
No, ofc not, the country who literally invented Cinema and the Movie Industry can't possibly come close to replicating the quality and sheer brilliance of some popular romcom with a British cast. Next you're going to tell me that the French can't possibly and have never made baguettes as tasty as those in the UK.
@@GuineaPigEveryday Shut up nerd
@@GuineaPigEveryday do you have any American recommendations?
@@GuineaPigEveryday the country you're meaning by the inventor of cinema and the movies, is of course, Australia! Check your history books!!
I have plan to open the library near scarlett johansson's house
Scarlett's husband is a Harvard graduate.
I think she reads....😜
Hugh Grant can, and will always, get it
Grant was so gorgeous in this movie. Loved him!
I always love to watch this movie over and over again.
Just watch this movie a second ago,and i come here to say : this movie so freaking amazing.
Best supporting cast ever
First time i’ve watched this movie, and i can admit i cried at the ending.
Oh look, it's Dylan Moran being himself!
Watched this movie in the flight from New York to London back in 1999
Anna responds to ticksters with such gracious and effective ease-- admirable
I've never noticed until now that the thieving customer is the Actor Dylan Moran who plays Bernard Black from Black's Books. Cool scene, if you see Black's Books you will notice whenever 'Bernard' is confronted by a lovely girl or wants to flirt, he gets all quiet and mousy much as in this scene.
I love the way he just treats her like a normal customer and doesn’t go over the top like that Rufus did. I think that’s what made her really like him. Thats the one side of fame that I wouldn’t like, I’d want peace and treated like a normal person.
I’ve watched this movie so many times I remember all the words
Hughie seems so real in a surreal story ...! " nice but surreal"
These two are so great in this wonderful movie. This is one of my favorite. Romantic and humorous!
hugh grant is a super actor , its great watching him so real , but a bit of cynicism in a cute way I guess its the English
I remember see this movie 10 year ago when i just have the computer. So much joy and happy.
one of the best romantic comedy films ever. Julia is the best.
I went to the original bookshop in notting hill and i have to say it looks way bigger in the film than in real life. Still is a nice place to visit if you are a fan of the movie. The bookshop is actually really nice and cozy
Do you want my phone # ? Tempting, but....no.....thank you. LOL classy!
This movie is eternally good
It's funny how toxic this character is and in the end she is forgiven without actually apologizing for anything she did to him.
This movie is so 90s 💜
God I’m so glad a movie like this exists
That's my signature and above it says "Dear Rufus..."
"Uhhh.... yeah couldnt stop him"
😂😂😂
That's what it says
Even though pretty much a chick flick I must admit Notting Hill is one of my favorite films which I must have seen at least ten times and there isnt one firearm scene where someone gets shot or dies., amazing!
awwwwwwwww Dylan Moran
Rufus: Do you want my phone number?
Anna Scott(julia roberts): Tempting. But no thanks...😂
I loved this beginning of the movie.
I swear who doesnt like juila she just perfection!
I watched this last night on TV. Wonderful movie!
this movie is more beautifull than the others!
Dear Rufus you belong in jail.classic line
Lovely movie. Such fun. Hugh Grant was a cutie.
Bernard from Black Books!!
love this movie always
oh my god....i really love this movie
holy shit - it's Dylan Moran! so awesome, love that guy
I wish I could come up with funny things to say like that.
Me encantaaaaaaaaaaa èsta pelicula es una de mis favoritas!
i’ve just realised that the tempting but no totally mirrors the surreal but nice comment! it’s like he unknowingly imitated her
I could totally see this happening. Someone with wealth and power could completely be into someone without.
When one realizes that even the wealthy and powerful are people just like anyone else then you realize that they have needs, wants, & fears just like anyone else.
Powerful beautiful women need love too; genuine love from someone that isn’t trying to bullshit them or use them as the next rung on the emotional or financial ladder. Be genuine with people (every people) and they will be genuine with you.
Hugh said in recent interview that this movie was based on a real story, but he didnt want to reveal who they are
What 'power' does an actor have?
wait til rufus finds out those two got married lol
In America a swat team in full battle gear arriving in military style vehicles would have arrived to take down this book thief.
Uahuahua
I love this film.
Such a very nice movie.
LOVE It ..
Thanks
I love the English humour !
This teen posse shows once again what good actors and directors can do with flat content.
Love julia 🥰😍😘❤❤
Bernard Black goes into another book shop to steal a book
You know, I was hoping to see a comment acknowledging Bernard :)
you are absolutely right...lol
Looks like Oompa Loompa grew an inch 😆
It's one of my favs too
I had a similar experience to this, i was a general manager at a Games Workshop and same as normal some guy who i didn't know walked in, i was helping some kids and asked if he was looking for anything particular, he mentioned Elves, i pointed him to elves and he bought a bunch of high elf models, as soon as he left one regular asked if i knew who that was, apparently it was the comedian Bill Bailey
Thnx for this great Movie Clip i like it!
Dear Rufus,
You belong in jail.
lol
hahahhahaha the shoplifter was DYLAN MORAN ... i had no f.....g idea :D :D :D

Que? 😂 Es famosa pero definitivamente no es de la mejores peliculas de la historia.
Wonderful,,
And then when he asks, "Do you want my phone number?" She should have replied, "I have your mom's." "You know my mum?" "I know a train station."
One of best love story
Dylan Moran! :)
God damn it this is more than hd
Why did he ask " what does it say??"? It's her handwriting that bad??
Book shopping in the plan
Julias performance 🤣😂😪😨
... is crap like all her performances. How did she do so well with such a
limited acting range? Was her grandmother Jewish?
I watched it every time when it's on HBO
jennifer rus
@M Young I just DVR'd this movie off HBO last week & rewatched this film 3x already!
Is this how Bernard Black gets his books....
and so the story of bernard black begins.
Every single cast of this film is perfect and did a wonderful job, except one person - Alec Baldwin. I’m sorry but that’s a fact!
Is he the one who played her boyfriend (Jeff)?
@@erstequeen yup
Yes, he was pretty rubbish.
Maybe that was the intention ?
I mean, seriously, would you cast Alec Baldwin if you wanted that character to be taken seriously ?
nice movie
