  • This week the Van Nostrand-Starkins House was visited by Ph.D. student, Marinus van Dintel.
Marinus is studying Dutch Colonial Farmhouses in New York, New Jersey, and Delaware, c. 1650-1830. As a specialist in Dutch farmhouses and working for the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands, he is researching the similarities and differences between the Dutch Colonial Farmhouses in the US and Dutch historic farmhouses.
His research at the Van Nostrand-Starkins was thorough and his eventual dissertation will surely prove to be enlightening. In the meantime, we can appreciate Marinus' video discussing two of his favorite elements from the Van Nostrand-Starkins house, the extended eaves and cornered shingles.
