PLUMBING REPAIRS | TOILET FLANGE INSTALL - Jak na to + styl
The customer is paying for the primer and flange screws, so usem like they're free. A bit longer screws and adding one more on the front and back of the flange helps. Great video and clean work. Thanks for the video
That’s a mistake always set the flange on the finished floor
of course my boss (Ms. Marcia would agree lol)
Thank you! You taught me some important tips I wouldn't have done. Have a great year Chuck!
As a plumber, it drives me crazy watching another plumber work. And yet, here I am.
I do the same.
I always set the flange on finish floor. A bit more work with tile. Also use calking under flange to water proof floor. Great video Chuck.
Great tip! I like that tip. Thanks Drain.
I read some of the comments regarding the installation of the flange on the finished floor, but nobody mentioned the WHY you do it, which I just learned myself.
Evidently it's because the flange has a female part to it, the beveled edge/shoulder on the inside top where the wax ring goes, and the male counterpart is the bottom ring on the toilet that sticks out, so those two need to be married together, and then sealed with the gasket, and that can only be done by having the flange mounted on the same plane as the toilet; the finished floor.
No question. Ideally flange is to set on the finished floor, also my go to flange is a pvc flange but it has a stainless steel ring. It's awesome, never rusts or corrodes. The stainless steel ring rotates, so you can position it wherever you need even after the fitting is glued. I've seen them at lowes. But I'm sure Ferguson would have them.
Great point!! Ya I backed off of drilling tile....went this route...I see on finish is best from my peers....appreciate that.
@Dennis Cordova you'll actually be surprised that some of those stainless steel rings made nowadays aren't 100% stainless steel. Last time I took a magnet to one of those rings, the magnet stuck and the ring had the words "stainless steel" engraved in it. If the magnet sticks, it's not 100% stainless and it has a chance to rust. I've also had to take out several of those types of flanges before because they had the rings rust away. Buyer beware, my friend.
@@andrewwelch5668 there's different grades of stainless and machining/stamping can change the steels structure making them more or less magnetic(in simplest terms)
Another great video Chuck, remain safe and keep the video's coming ☝️
Thank you, I will Sir. See ya out there my manz.
I always put mine a 1/4” above finish floor !
I see i am in the minority on flange setting. taking tips daily....ha.
I totally agree about the small slots being the strongest and best..warms my heart to see someone agree 👍
ya Im a slot man for sure.
Great video! I always set my flange on top of the finished floor as well . The horn of the toilet seals up with wax much better that way in my humble opinion.
Great tip! Thanks Joe....I stopped by your page....working with your boss too I see.....Team!!
@@ChuckBarron She definitely keeps us rolling. Stay safe out there!
The way you are suppose to.
You need a #3 Phillips bit and I'd use a little longer screws. Still love the flange slots 💯
Good eye plumber.
I like the flange flush or on top of finish floor. The only thing I might have done differently is put an oatey 1/4” spacer under that flange before glue in. I like to stack my spacers under the new flange.
I have actually have never done that. Thanks for the tip.
Hey, my wife decided she didn’t want to be married anymore this summer. I’m one step closer to coming to Jersey an working for you! (I’m trying to be positive here.)
I set my flanges on top of the finished floor. I don't know if it really makes a difference, but I've seen quite a few flanges that have been installed flush with the floor and even slightly recessed into the floor have more leak problems. Hardly ever see a flange on top of the floor leak...maybe it's just a coincidence. 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for the info
Thank you for sharing
My pleasure
Nice work chuck! Bathroom tile.looks badass man! If u gonna set the flange to the hardi backer ya gotta use the other side of flange that way u can slide the bolts in without the tile getting in the way. I would just get the grinder and make a few slices just enough to sneak the bolts in. U the man keep the vids coming💪
Thanks for the tip! Let me know when you in the area again. We hook it up Alex.
I've also set my flanges that way. Most times on top of finished floor. However, if I see a real tile pro { not homeowner, lol } I've set it level to tile. Works both ways.
Tmac in the hizzy
You can't beat Toto!!
The tool your looking for is made by Reed 04430 demurring tool i use it faithfully on all abs and pvc pipe leaves a nice bevel on pipe and slides in easily.
Thanks for the info! Thanks Rich.
How are you going to get the closet bolts in that flange now that it’s below the tile
Lil grinder bit....oval that right out....Better not crack that tile CB.....
My first flange install in my bathroom, I installed the flange on top of tile, when I installed the toilet it was rocking had to put shims, I'm redoing my 2nd bathroom now and I've put my flange on the cement board.
sounds like a bad tile job or the subfloor/backer wasn't flat either and they just ran with it. it takes a good builder to make the whole toilet area flat from the joists up.
That is exactly what we have in a new home, a bad job. We have a leaky toilet because the flange is uneven and too high and has no screws. We've tried 3 different seals and still leaking. Thanks for your video.
The best thing to do now is get a spacer for you can install your toilet bolts with out having to grind your tile for your bolts, only time I use the small half circle hole is when it’s on the finished floor
Plumb, I have actually never done that. I will keep that in mind for sure.
@@ChuckBarron if you're anything like me you learn from every job
amen brother
I hate to be that guy but why do so many plumbers not fully secure the toilet flange down to the floor? 4 more screws really that expensive/time consuming? Also good luck with that supply stub.
Ya my thought is if these can hold then we are in trouble.
Man i was hoping to see you deal with that little nub of a brand new water supply line for the toilet. Could they have made it any shorter, sheesh
so true.
I see an outlet are you installing a smart toilet big money
Happy Wife! Happy Life! Whats up my friend! Hope all finds you well.
Only thing bad about using the smaller hole when you put it on sub floor instead of tile you can’t get your toilet bolts on or off
so precision grinding bit or a 1/4 chisel which Im not even bringing in the house.....lol
@@ChuckBarron I have faith that you can pull it off.
Is waiting till the floor is finished an option?
ya the major players all say on tile...I am gonna follow that too in near future. old head not afraid to listen...ha
@@ChuckBarron you may want to use a different flange though. Those flanges set on tile tend to stick up to far for some toilets, but yes flange on finished floor. Less leaks for sure.
I hate full plastic/pvc flanges and always go for good stainless steel ring models. the one thing they do good is provide job assurance, because they will break lol
That supply stub looks like a potential PITA.
Personally I like to have the flange so the closet bolts slide in easily, so above the finished floor. I’ve never had one that is flush leak, just sometimes the bolts are a pita. Like others have said, next time you may want to consider putting a spacer under the flange to get it to the appropriate height. Overall, good call on not drilling that floor. Drilling marble tile is a huge liability.
Great tips.
Do u do hvac and if yes/no can u state your reasons why u do or do not do it? Thanks in advance for any reply you give.
Kind regards
Santa clause
👍🤘🤙✊
yes sir.
Good job 💩
Thanks B
Clean work 👍🏻
Thanks Daddio.
Toto Ultra Flush?! Hopefully not a skirted one-piece
