  • Hello and welcome to part 3 of our Carnival Splendor cruise vlog series!
This holiday is a special celebration of both our 30th birthdays and our babymoon on this 10 night cruise from Sydney to North Queensland in an Ocean View Suite!
Today we arrive in the beautiful tropical city of Cairns!
Join us as we take a trip up into the mountainous rainforest by Skyrail and explore the hipster town of Kuranda, before heading back down to Cairns via a scenic railway train! The views by both transportation methods were incredible on this trip!

We did a similar itinerary but from Brissy on Quantum in Nov 2023. We had booked the Kuranda railway/Skyrail through the cruise line...the weather turned bad and they cancelled it! We stayed on the ship as Quantum is too big to dock in Cairns and the tenders where taking 30mins to get to Yorkey;s knob and then a 30 min bus ride from Yorkey's to Cairns! Nope! 🙂

Ah sorry to hear you had bad luck with the weather and the cancellation! 😭 We had the same issue later on this cruise when we couldn’t tender into Port Douglas due to bad weather, much more convenient to dock in the port when they can on the smaller ships!
That is an effort to get there from Yorkeys Knob, fair shout staying on the ship I reckon! 😂

Hi thanks for the helpful video, we are going on the Splendor next month doing this cruise. was planning to do same type of excursion ourselves.
If you don't mind, what time did you go up the skyrail and back down on the train?
Also did you get uber to skysail starting point?
I know the ship leaves 330pm from Cairns the date we go so would love to know the times you did as we don't want to miss the boat doing our own thing. Thanks

      Hey thanks for the comment!
You can book it all through the Kuranda Skyrail website with multiple time slots available.
We took the Skyrail up at 11:30am - this was the only morning time we could get - boom early if you're going on a cruise!
We chose to have an included bus transfer from the Pullman international hotel (closest to the cruise terminal), otherwise it would be a 20 minute uber as terminal is out of the city.
Our scenic railway back down left at 3:30pm and got into Cairns at 5:30pm (2 hour train) - its then a 10 minute walk to the cruise from the train station.
We were able to do this as we were in Cairns until 7pm, I think the other train in the afternoon leaves at 2pm so would still be too late for you guys leaving at 3:30pm.
You may be able to do it the other way around with an earlier skyrail back in the afternoon - hope this helps!

@@disneydocdownunder Hi thanks for the quick and helpful reply, we were thinking of doing the opposite because of the time we are in port from 7am - 330pm.
Taking the train from Cairns in the morning as they have a 830 and a 930am departure. Then taking the skyrail down as it looks like you can just jump on when you want easily.
How much earlier prior to the ships departure of 7pm did you need to be back onboard? Thanks again Hayden And Sophie

@@haysophwhite4877yes that definitely would make more sense for you guys doing it that way around with a shorter day.
You have to be back on the ship no later than 30 minutes before scheduled departure in all ports 😊
