You just ruined 3 good items of furniture
@@tgsteer Except for the part where you're wrong. Thanks for watching!
Great job. PLEASE mask up or get a respirator. I'm a 50 year old who does similar work and have done so since I was in my 20s. I highly recommend that you take some precautions. Your lungs will thank you down the road. Keep up the great work though and stay well bud.
Protect your lungs you only have 2!
I has asthma and was the the same thing!
You are not just a painter dude, you are an artist..
God Bless
Seriously. Thank you for not playing annoying music during your time lapse.
I like your technique. I did one similar but painted the whole piece then distressed and used dark wax. It turned out pretty cool. That was before I found CZcams and started learning all these new techniques and products. Thanks for sharing.
I have searched so many videos for this look....finally found yours...it is the BEST! Thank you and a big thanks for not having annoying music. Great teaching and the furniture is beautiful!
+Quarter Horse Thanks!
If you are looking for a great furniture painter and designer, I would highly recommend Bella Renovare by Crys'Dawna. She is absolutely amazing and does so many different stuff, and she explains everything so well.
@fishingpinky, I agree! And I really enjoy the SILENT time lapse. It’s very calming. And no music elsewhere in the video either. 👍🏼
Why would you come on someone elses channel and say that. whatever. @@audreytryba2575
This is totally one of my favorite colors. I live all shades of blue and green. You did excellent! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I love the dark wood paired with the turquoise.
Used this method after watching this vid. Used four different colors for an antique Mexican look. Came out incredible using a 5 dollar solid wood end table bought at the Goodwill. Now it looks like an expensive antique. Doing my kitchen table and chairs next. Thanks for the great video.
+skimmer521 Awesome! Layering dry brush coats is something I haven't shared but it is a great way to mix it up and create an eye-catching piece.
Did you have to sand between different colors.
I didnt. I lightly sanded the surface and wiped it down. Then I used four colors. I waited for the color to partially dry and wiped it all down with a dark stain that took some of the paint off and gave it a richer look.
Furniture Envy Do you plan to do a video on dry brushing with multiple colors? I just saw an awesome piece on Pinterest with brown at the bottom, white at the top and then blended with turquoise in the middle section. Gorgeous combo of colors but I'm not sure exactly how to stop and start the different sections. Thanks for this video!
+1955dmb I know the looks you're talking about but haven't tried it. It isn't necessarily dry brushing as much as it is fading the colors together with wispy strokes in the middle. If I get a piece that I don't mind experimenting on, I'll do a video on my own attempt. :)
I’m learning to paint, doing all types of painting. Distressing is my favorite and my most difficult. I’m glad I watched this one. I learned that I may have too much paint on my brush and I need to go over it more times than I do.
You can do it!
you have a lot of patience to do such a big job all at once, nice work!
IMHO, If you get marks from any sander you are pushing down too hard or staying in place too long. One of the first major quality lessons I learned! You do.great work!
I learned about dry brushing eons ago. It's great. I can't sand much where I am, and it makes life a lot easier.
Wow u do such great work! I have had my mother’s headboard here at my house and have wanted to do this technique but just have never felt confident enough to attempt. However, after watching your video here this morning I now feel confident enough to do it and let me tell you I have watched a ton of videos but for some reason just the way you have explained it and shown the way you achieve this look I get it!! I can do this 😜 and let me tell you she n my dad will be so very happy to get their headboard finally no more having to prop their pillows up against the wall to prop up n watch tv.. Wish me luck I’m gunna do this today yay!!! Thanks again so so much.
Thats some awesome feedback. I'm glad people are able to actually take something away from this video and put it to use. Just keep going. It will look jacked up at first but just work on one section at a time and take a step back every so often and fill in where you need to, but dont do too much! Good luck!
Good lord almighty, put a mask on. Also, omg clear coat done in seconds! I'm so envious! I live in an apartment building, so the process is pretty painstaking for me. I do have a large balcony now though, and I just got a paint sprayer. Getting the paint shelter for it. Won't use it for every project, but looking forward to trying it out.
I am here to thank the tutorial. But I have to say I am not happy and disappointed to see the dislikes. Really!!!?? This guy is talented and willing to share ideas.
For as many people that like painted furniture there are just as many people that hate it. We pretty much just ignore them. Enjoy the content and ignore the haters. Thanks for watching!
This is BEST video for distressed furniture! No tricks - real recording! Thank you for sharing! I will follow your steps to paint all my furniture!
I had this same bedroom set ..and when I seen you start painting it ..I thought this man is crazy ..But after you painted the top of the dresser I loved it .. keep the great work enjoy watching your videos
Thank you so much 😀
Love the way you show us step by step easy to follow and can actually see the names of products clearly 👍🌈🙂
I normally prefer natural wood but that set was kind of overbearing and what you did to it made it lovely and light. Just found you here so I'll be watching your old videos now. It's very nice to see a young man creating value and beauty and giving new life to old furniture.
FINALLY!! I’m no professional and have a huge piece that I wanted to do like this and all the videos I find use chalk paint and blah blah blah! Your video is what I needed!! Thank you!
Glad I could help!
awesome job dude they look amazing .great advice and full clip start to finish thanks
You should be wearing a mask!! You may regret it in 10 years.
Senior Retirement Project M Spohn true, but not as much he is regretting all the mom “wanna bes” who watched his video.
I love this style and look I'm gonna try 2morro on some pieces I have!!
I really like that technique of the polyurethane instead of primer. The way you use the already dark wood to shade the turquoise looks fantastic. Thanks for this video, I watched it all the way through. 👍 Furniture turned out amazing 🤩
Great tutorial for this effect, esoecially when I saw that it was made 6 years ago! Though I have never liked this effect, I found the techniques you demonstrated. Thank you for your expertise!
I love how shabby and chic this dry brushing video is. I also really love that you did it from start to finish !!! great vids keep up the brushing
By far, the best dry brushing video I've seen. Thanks!!!!! You're very good!
My wife and I love your work
Thanks a ton for watching. Tell her I said hello and thank you also!
I love it. I'm about to do this color turquoise for my daughter's dresser I bought second hand!
I really can sit and watch you work all day. Love your work and thank you for sharing!
Thanks!
The polyurethane your using is water based and no odor. It's good stuff... I love the matte finish product more than the satin. Only poly I'll ever use. You do nice work. Nice!
+Tara Petersen Correct! I've actually switched from satin as being my main finish to semi-gloss. The restained wood looks like a factory finish
My Mom "antiqued" some furniture in the 1960's. It was a process called antiquing, similar result as this dry brushing.
Thank you so much! This is a great step by step tutorial!
That is gorgeous
This came out so COOL!!!
Love the paint cans for a stand while painting!!! Thank you!
I CAN'T BELIEVE I WATCH THIS WHOLE VIDEO, BUT I BEEN DREAMING OF THESE COLORS FURNITURE LATELY, YOU'RE AMAZING AND I HAD TO SUBSCRIBE"
I am having the exact same problem getting the plates off some drawers I'm doing, thanks for the tip!. Love the colors, very pretty.
This was soooo helpful. Thank you!! I’m working on this vanity that was painted white, I just sanded it for the longest time lol. But this looks amazing- I may use this method on my project if not will definitely in the future
Glad it was helpful!
Those emblems are called escutcheons. They are used to cover old key holes. In reproduction colonial/queen Anne furniture like this they are meant to mimic the old locks the originals would've had
This looks incredible!😍 You make me want to start painting every piece of Furniture have. Lol. Great job!
I subbed as soon as I saw you painting left handed.
Wait till you see his hand foot style.
Awesome!! Thank You!! The best Dry Brushing Video in CZcams!
Make a dog bed out of an old dresser drawer, end table or old console tv ! I cant wait to do mine from the 50s
Love this technique! Seems so much easier than chalk painting/distressing etc
GREAT TUTORIAL, VERY THOROUGH.
I'm just taking some notes for later.
NOTES:
1)Dry-Brushing works better with a new brush than an older brush.
2) First Coat (Sides of Dresser) Dry-Brush from left-to-right at top edge and bottom edge on 1st coat. (35:05 minutes in)
Great! Good luck! It is really easy. Just lightly apply paint over and over. :)
Just found your videos and I can't stop watching!! Love your work and thanks so much for sharing!!
Gosh I really wish you’d wear a mask sweetie... I was once coughing for days after sanding a 1920s bureaux!!
YES!!
I was searching for shabby chic style furniture as I want to paint my bedroom furniture .... OMG what were the the odds I would find you not only using the color I had in mind but on the exactly bedroom suite I have?!!!!! thank you so much! I just subscribed and will be checking your other videos
Thank you for this video. In some countries it's really difficult to find chalk paint and I don't feel confortable mixing my own. I will try this method!
Stunning results. Love the color!
Thanks! I don't do very much turquoise anymore but it was REALLY popular when I did this video. :)
I really didn't think I was going to enjoy this vid so much but it was great and I had never heard of dry brushing so I learned something new. U are excellent teacher and explained everything so well. I might try this technique on a smaller piece of furniture just to have in my craft room and hopefully it will look as good as the pieces u have just done but I doubt it. Thank you for sharing this with us I learned so much from you
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
I find all of this fascinating! Thank you for sharing your expertise with us! Beautiful work! Simply divine!! 🙏🏻❤️💕
20:01 realizing your set up is pretty great and now I want a sprayer.
Great job, looks AMAZING.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE THE DRYBRUSH TECHNIQUE AND COLORS.
Anyone ever see the antique process of late 1960s? Very similar to shabby chic. People started taking beautiful wood furniture and painting it to look distressed and shabby. The next twenty years, people were finding these pieces of covered treasure and stripping them down to original wood and restoring to original beauty.
Wonder if that will be what happens to these shabby chic pieces?
Yes. It is pretty much what we call glazing today. I've heard older people refer to the process as "pickling" also. You know, pretty much anyone that paints furniture will catch some sort of flak over painting furniture. I definitely have. I always tell them that if they love it so much, they are welcome to strip it down and make it new again because that is what was done in the past. Yes, some pieces may be forever ruined depending on how the piece was prepped and all that, but I think there will be some treasures under paint like you said.
I'm actually thinking about buying an inexpensive painted piece and restaining the whole piece. Its just been on my mind. I think it would be fun to see how it turns out. It would really flip the script on what everyone is doing today.
A lot of people seem to be obsessed with me painting this specific set for some reason. It is particle board furniture with cherry veneer. The drawers arent dovetail. The set is from the 1990s and had dog piss all over the base of the dresser from the original owner. :D
I'm sure your process will improve the particle board piece. However, I keep seeing beautiful solid wood pieces being painted and hope the process can one day be reversed for the next generation who will be looking to find the original woods and styles.
The current house do over style is something of the same. Beautiful walnut walls in 1890s libraries in old homes are being painted over in an effort to "brighten up" the room and this priceless wood is being forever.
I am old enough to remember depression generation people painting furniture to make it "new" but young enough to watch the next generation trying to scrape the paint of these covered antiques.
Are we doing reruns?
the old way back in the 60's tended to be a bit heavy but yes here we go again!
younger generation will be to busy playing computer games into their nineties. When they arent working hard to keep themselves alive. even then I'm sure they too will find bits of old old furniture to do with what they will.
And your old generation is miserable, judges and puts down the next generation!
I was not a fan of the distressed look but your work has helped me see the light! I like how these came out.
I am obsessed with this!!!! Need to do it as soon as I can get the tools
Thank you for the great video. Very helpful.
Thanks for the compliment! Glad you enjoyed it. Trying to get a new one up every week. Hope you can subscribe and stick around. :)
I love that video I keep watching it several times 😍
Great work I love watching and getting inspired to try your styles into my furniture pieces!!
You did an awesome job! Thank you I am wanting to learn to do this myself!
I loved this video and I love how detailed you was in the video...
¡Madre mía, ha sido increíble!¡Enhorabuena ha quedado precioso!
Briliant tutorial...wonderful result..t-shirt says it all...you make it look easy! if only.
oH how coooool, LOVing the Brush strokes sound. LOVE it ! Awesome job my friend. YOU inspire me.
Very very well done! You are an accomplished painter! Really enjoyed your video and completed work! Many thanks
Thanks!
Beautiful!!! I'm going to try this technique on my headboard to create a beautiful multicolored mermaid effect! Thank you so much!
Have fun!
This is beautiful and I'm learning a lot
Очень КРУТО!!! Не работа, а ЗАГЛЯДЕНЬЕ просто!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing. End finish product.... beautiful!!! I think you should use a mask.
Oh there it is, another mask comment.
I like it💕💕 just take care and ware a mask 👍🏻
Awesome video! Thanks for all the information and step by step video! Best regards,
Wanda
You could do a black stain on the inside and sides of the draws. Makes them more visually interesting when opened without making them stick or not open properly.
Great idea. :)
You have mad skills...
just seeing the vid now. I know it was done a while back but I was interested in learning some of the numbers if you would care to share. where did the furniture come from? ( did you buy them, was it for a client? ) what was cost of supplies? what did the pieces sell for or was it t/m? what was total time of labor? sorry about all the questions, thanks
Sorry for the slow response. I'm bad at checking my CZcams. Are you getting into painting furniture and looking for the numbers? Message me on Facebook under Furniture Envy and I can have a convo with you about it.
I love this..first time watcher but you teach it to make it very easy...you ROCK..I have the exact dresser and instead of buying a new one you saved me some $$$$$..Thank You!
O melhor de todos pra mim 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Amazing work...Love the color.. be careful and protect with a mask 😷..
Thank you. I do wear a mask frequently. I'm going to have to start uploading more videos with me having it on. :) Thanks again!
Snap another mask comment...
Hi, really cool. Do you have some ideas for a vintage wood dining table. i want to revamp
Молодец, парень! Респект! Руки у тебя Золотые!!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Always paint all surfaces. Paint that top!😊
Omg, these pieces are absolutely beautiful.... I would love to have these in my formal living area. By the way, you are an absolute hottie!!!!! I'm subscribing now....
+Jeanelle Cain Thank you
Funny, but when a man says that about a woman, he's a pervert 🙄
Natalia Astankina Artist Hottie is pretty innocent coming from a man or woman. A compliment without expectations is always welcome. It's when the intention is to sleep with someone based solely on their looks. Context matters.
Lol...
Omg u got me to fast forward to see what he look like btw u r right
Te quedó súper lindo! Bendiciones
La elección del color fue única
Love the technic, not my style, but I do appreciate the technic!
I am sooooo going to do this! Love this!!!
I forgot to add; protect yourself from those chemicals 😊❤
Thank you for a good video! It was very nice job, it came out perfect the set of furniture and color .
I am thinking will do some my old furniture. Thank you!
Amazing talented work. Liked the not rushed detailed reasoning of explanations. TFS!!!
wow. beautiful :) ty for sharing
Thank you for posting this. I thought dry brushing was supposed to be just 1 coat. Thank you.
Mmm thats dumb, as one coat can’t possibly cover or provide enough coverage for the whole surface. Dry paint sticks to dry paint...let that sink in.
Em Jay why are getting angry lmao
Am I witnessing split personalities in this comment thread lol?
That Shabby Guy ahhh “ Em Jay” clever I’m going to use that
Can you do like a pink distressed...I wanna do my daughters room furniture
I bet there isn’t too many. Did you do it?
Furniture Flipping Teacher did a 2 piece set in pink and it was gorgeous. The little girl was 5 and her grandfather bought it for her. 💕
You do great work! Keep it up but protect yourself...dont forget people are watching you and someone might think respirator isn't necessary. You are our teacher! Great job
Everything looks great! I agree with some of the comments concerning you using a mask. Especially when you're spraying and sanding.
Yes. I should have worn a mask. Check out my newer videos, I'm always wearing a mask. :)
Great job, its beautiful. Thanks for sharing .
Wear a mask! 😕inhaling polyurethane will destroy your lungs which no amount of money will buy back. So much talent and creativity should not go to waste.💀👍
I was thinking the same thing.
WOW! I was just going to post the same thing. Beautiful but very unsafe without safety gear!
I thought so too. Saw a bunch others thought the same. Great color choice though.
I was just thinking the same. My dad passed away from Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was a welder for 43 years and inhaled way too much of those fumes. Please wear a mask. It was awful.
please, please wear a mask.
on 5:21, finally someone who shows how it's done !
maravilhoso amei vou fazer , aprendi a fazer patina vc esta de parabéns.
I can't believe you did this to beautiful furniture! I am all for upgrading old furniture to new life and use, but this was beautiful.
I don't do it for fun. I do it for income. This was not fully solid wood furniture so don't stress it too much. ;)
It looked like chain hotel furniture before. Way better now.
Linda Sprinkle I am totally with you Linda, believe me! I was like "NO! pleeeeeaaase don't tell me he's doing THAT to THOSE!!" But it is often that I can't believe someone would give particular new looks, to things that were totally gorgeous, not to mention, in PERFECT CONDITION as they were beforehand!
HOWEVER, I think he did fabulous work and created what is definitely a beautiful look! Just why on those pieces lol 😫
With that said though, he commented back (I would assume it was him) that he does this for a living, not for fun, so I get it because I do woodworking and restoration projects on the side as well. Unfortunately, this happens more often than you would think, but what paying customers request, paying customers get! PERIOD!!
I've seen as well as have had to do my own fair share of both ... what is pretty funky looking in the end or what was taking beautiful pieces, that I'd absolutely love to put in my own home, and turning them into what I personally might consider to be a hideous nightmare or a real eyesore.
It's painful to deface such certain beauty, but again ... the bottom line is, if you've been given a style/color request and you're getting paid for it, you've just got to do what you've got to do, rather you like it or not lol.
Really great job Furniture Envy! I'm merely just trying to shed some light on the situation.
You cant see the condition of the pieces from the video. Everyone gets their panties in a twist before reading the rest of the comments. Lol.
Furniture Envy Oh no, I don't lol. I actually read several dozen comments and totally understand. All I did was pay your work a compliment and try to help explain to a person who left a negative comment because I do the same work and know just how it is. Maybe you should re-read? Or don't. No matter to moi 😊🤗✌️
I know this is old, but I have a question. I love the color. I'm curious if that color sells well for you? I'm in the Southwest. What area are you in?
Grays are super popular right now. That and white.
Wow!
Awesome!
Wow 👍
