DO YOU THINK GILBERT ARENAS WOULD HAVE DOMINATED TODAY’S GAME?
Yeah, he played like a modern guard back in the 2000s. IMO defense was tougher then, too. Yet he was a scoring machine. Agent Zero 🔥
Gil would get his stats but he was a loser with a loser mentality
He would average 28-5-3 on 45 percent shooting and zero rings
Probably have a carreer like Harden. Amazing offensively but a massive defensive liability. Lots of drama because of his ego and will not have a chip because of his mentality. Just my 2 cents.
@@mummy7344 I agree with you. Harden made a huge mistake leaving Philly.
His Arrogance overshadowed his greatness
I agree.
if so why has since the nba Gil trained/coached the kids of actual legends? Do you really think if anyone could say Gil wasn't a baller that players like Bron, Matt Barnes & Peja wouldn't ask for his opinion on their kids?
@@mauricerhodes1756I think you are confusing charity work and skill over arrogance and and self absorption.
Lets not get it twisted, GIlbert can ball, but Gilbert was uncoachable, self centered, played no defense, and was concerned about proven he belongs as opposed to simply belonging. He has a story and he has valuable knowledge, doesnt mean I want him to actually mentor my children. Do you really think they give AF about what he thinks about their kids, as if they are going to train them differently
Why do you think Coach K rejected him from the Olympic team? He was about himself. Go watch the video in why he got kicked off

He wasn't too good too quickly, he was literally a lottery pick that rubbed everyone the wrong way so they didn't pick him until the 2nd round. Which in the long run worked out for him getting paid before all of the lottery picks.
Facts.

Gilberts injuries and Gun incident slowed him down. Gilberts antics is why he went 2nd round
Gilbert was super talented on the offensive end and a bonafide star. But he was terribly imature and his lack of discipline made him a piss poor leader when he got his chance to be a franchise player. Infact id argue he was more of an underachiever given his talent and how his career ended
Plus he gave 0 shits defensively.

@@wbharvey504why do you have to hate? You'll trade your life for his rich ass life all day. Plz the cliff is that way.
@ralphmack8590 Ladies first. U clowns really think everything is hate.
You see this is the prime example of the difference in an all time great player like Kobe, LeBron, MJ, Tim Duncan. Amazing talents, yet the thing that sets them apart from Gilbert arenas? Maturity. And mentality. Players with a certain maturity and mentality often stay in the league much longer than any other player. You see how victor wembanyama acts at 19 and you think if this guy stays healthy he’ll probably be the actual player to finally take over the face of the nba from LeBron James. That maturity he has at 19 is much better than the likes of Zion or ja morant. I mean curry would be the face of the nba if he was younger a couple of years and wouldn’t retire maybe a year or two after LeBron. -and then the likes of Giannis and jokic are also too old now. And they also have the humbleness that sets them apart from their peers.
Let’s be honest, Gilbert arenas is of course an amazing player but with that mentality it never would’ve worked out for him to end his career like the great players who could score 60+ points on a random night.
That doesn’t take away from his talent or how people see how good at his peak he was, but he grew up immature and you can see it even now years after he’s retired
Or…. The difference between being healthy and not.

Not talents alone.
@@donaldli4755 well I was arguing about being an all time great not the face of the league… so your argument is all over the place. DRose was never the face of anything and the prime years in his career was short lived because of… you guessed it… injury lol. And idk what you getting at with the Jerry West Point. He wasn’t the face of the league, nor was he some super mature player above the rest😂. It’s probably a real reason why it was him picked as the logo and not Bill Russell or Big O but we’ll leave that for speculation.

The description of the gun incident is inaccurate. There are plenty of primary sources that have talked about the incident in interviews recently.
The man had 4 years of great play out of 12 years on a team that would have made the playoffs once if they was in the west but they was in the east and was able to get a 5th seed by winning only 40 games.
He was a stat dumpster on a trash team that had the green like to jack up 25-30 shots a night. Any consistant NBA player can score 40-60 points with that thype of green light hell look at Harden.
James Harden is the exact player Gilbert was. Great at stat padding while winning nothing, but atleast Harden got a MVP and made it past the 1st round more then 1 unlick Gil
James Harden is the only player to win 6h man of the year AND MVP... James Harden has won over 80 playoff games..... Gil didn’t drop 60 “on Kobe’s head”, that game he scored 12 points w Kobe as his defender. The next match they had Kobe guarded him and Gil scored 30 on very poor shooting splits.
Even Kobe admitted Gil dropped 60 on him
Gil was cold man.. he gave your favorite player 30 points a night.

i think there's a story that rookie gilbert burn all the rookie money because at first he think he will be a lottery pick
Gil still has the same problem on his podcast that he had in the league. Ego and delusion.
Eddie Jordan coined Gilbert’s antics “Gilbertology”
Gilbert had maturity of an 11 year old with a Wilt Chamberlain ego
Imagine Jordan Poole, but with off-court issues.
The only person that could stop Gil was himself. Everything you said is true, and he acknowledges his downs too. As a fan, I think the man could’ve been greater had he made some smarter decisions but you can’t change the past and he’s built a newer platform where he’s succeeding again.
And the bad doctors that botched his surgerie. Think it had to be redone like twice after the initial one lol
so what was he called once he changed his # to 9 cause he never went bacc to zero again moving foward
I can tell no research was actually done before this video was made , watch a few arenas interviews then re record
right an he opened up about how his first year the team was on his ass everyday,
Lol he's just turned 41 years old with an estimated 50 million in the bank , and has a very popular basketball podcast in 2023. Us sitting here pretending he failed or that he's foolish is odd. At this point were literally searching for the negativity in a success story. All NBA , NBA ALL STAR , NBA MOST IMPROVED. Hes better then 95% of players to ever play in the NBA. He's still relevant today , a decade after leaving the league.
yeah... but for an athlete you want to be immortal... and he pissed it away... and he is NOT better than 95% of dudes ever to play... if he had not brought a gun to the locker room and got suspended for it... his career would be forgettable...
Lol nobody asked about his life story, just his time in the NBA to which he WAS foolish and a horrible leader lmao. Injuries may have ended his career, but pretending like threatening your teammates with guns in the locker room isn't a FOOLISH move? Get out of here with that BS. No smart player would ever do that, but please keep excusing his trash behavior. Nobody is pretending here but you. He wasn't drafted in the second round because of his talent for a reason lmao.
@@doclew28 It's always funny to me when people disagree with a statement and have no idea what they're talking about.
First of all he didn't "piss his career away" he got injured and wasn't able to play up to his full potential.
Secondly Gilbert has 3 All-NBA selections. There have been 4,374 players to play in the NBA. Of those only 103 have 4 or more all NBA selections. That means only 2.3% of players to ever play in the NBA have more All NBA selections than him. So yeah he's top 5%.
@@Hotobu if you ask ANYONE if Gil is in the top 5% of all time they would laugh in your face... So you are saying he missed on being on the top 100 team by just three players??? Hahahahahahaha!!! Cmon man... And he pissed it all away after the gun incident... Injury or not... nobody was going to take him seriously or give him what these guys are getting now... too much of a risk... too loose of a cannon... so yeah... he pissed away what COULD have been by being ignorant... Hell... he shudda stayed here in Oakland... But this is the reason he is so salty right now... he knows he fugged up... Ive even heard him say as much on his podcast... SMH
@@doclew28 What you said is one of the most overly emotional inane displays of word salad I've seen in a while.
Yes, Gil is very close to a top 100 player. You only don't think so because he doesn't "fEeL" like it. Your emotional response tells you no, but if you actually put some thought into things, and looked at the other players behind him there aren't many that could arguably go in front, and some of the ones who have more All-NBA selections are guys like Jim Pollard, and Vern Mikkelsen, who only got them because they were in a less competitive league with 8 teams. You only think other people would laugh at this because you probably associate with people whose NBA IQ is as low as yours is.
BTW since I'm guessing that math isn't your strong suit let me educate you on something. 5% of 4374 is 218, so even if Gil was top 200 he'd STILL be a top 5% player.
Next, your timeline of events is all messed up. The "gun incident" happened 2 years after the injury, and he still played for another 4 seasons after that, so you have to be a special kind of dumb to think that if he was playing at the All-NBA level he was prior to getting injured he wouldn't have had opportunities.
All I see from you is the inane ramblings of a salty guy from Oakland who's a pretty basic know-nothing NBA fan.
Injuries are a mf
They didn’t build those teams well around him either. It seemed like every time he got a starter level player (Hughes, and Butler, i feel like I’m forgetting somebody), right when they got chemistry with Gil, they’d ship em out. The kids still needed seasoning in Young, McGee, and Blatch
And people have got to quit saying they pulled guns on each other because it makes it seem like they were about to shoot each other and that’s not the case.
with all due respect , this was good content , but you didn’t talk about gils game enough or his bad leadership enough . i feel like you should dive more into the pros and cons of his game and the reasons why he wasn’t so successful and the times he was .
good content????? you've got to be joking
Well, Gilbert said all of this, lol
Remember when he burned down an entire park
Damn 3 all nbas at 25? He was incredible. That’s Luka, Lebron type ish
You gotta remember his body quit on him similar to Brandon Roy just not as fast as Brandon

Nobody wanted them shoes 😂
Feel bad for Wizards fans, they had Gil and John Wall as franchise players and lost both to injuries
You told this story like a real fan …had me going down memory lane reliving all these moments …Gil was truly special and growing up a wizards fan he quickly became my all time favorite player (later surpassed by Curry) ….i wish his career didn’t end the way it did but it’s nice to see him still being recognized as an nba great …
I truly believe if the wizards didn’t run into the buzzsaw that was the Miami Heat in 05 the wizards could have made a deep playoff run that season ….and Gilbert vs Lebron was setting up to be epic but injuries got in the way

The best direction Gilbert Arenas received was from his college coach Lute Olson at the U of A. IMHO, I thought Gilbert was too raw to enter the NBA draft after the 2001 NCCA championship. At the same time, I had no problem with him taking that risk. No doubt, Gilbert was a good scorer. At the same time, Arenas did not have the best coaches in the NBA for development and direction. Gilbert was a really good player on at best ok teams. To Arenas' credit, he helped get the Washington Wizards into the playoffs with mediocre level rosters and coaches.
Mediocre level roster. Dude had Larry Hughe who averaged 20 PPG.Also, had Antawn Jamison who averaged 20 PPG. 100% sure he had a better lineup then Heat Lineup.
@@emersonssbb Antawn Jamison and Larry Hughes are indeed very good players, but not great ones. Hughes was a solid pro playing for 8 different teams. Antawn Jamison was a two-time All-Star. A very good career scoring over 20k points, but Antawn was never used appropriately in that Wizards lineup due to Arenas' ball dominance on offense. And the 2004-05 Wizards were swept by the Miami Heat. Hughes was a solid pro, but no way shape or form was he equal to any version of Dwyane Wade - a great player. As I mentioned, those very good players did not have good direction with some of the coaches they had. If Arenas and the players you mentioned mentored by coaches like: Pat Riley, Greg Popovich or Larry Brown, they would have had even better careers. The smartest thing Larry Hughes did was jump ship from Gilbert Arenas' led Washington Wizards to Cleveland's led LeBron James squad. Now that roster was contending for the NBA Finals one year and pushed the 2007-08 Boston Celtics to 7 games. No Washington Wizards roster during Arenas' best years were collectively super-star good. They needed more.
Chase was super corner for that
Arenas was a kobe wannabe with the mental problems of Dennis Rodman, and the winning mentality of Dwight Howard.
