  • Is it really worth dropping five times as much on an e-scooter? Or do you just look like a bit of an idiot? We sent Jack and Hazel to find out. (We answered the second question, at least)

    Great video guys. Really good. Yeah, I think the single biggest black mark against the Xiaomi is the lack of suspension. It does compromise control, and therefore safety, however it's still a brilliant and simple little last mile solution for a work day commuter, particularly with some mods to that fragile rear guard. I love how quickly it folds down. Did have the Xiaomi, but currently have a Vsett which is very similar to Zero, and both have their strengths and weaknesses.

    I live in a downstairs or basement apartment. That's where I'll be keeping any scooter or electric mobility device I purchase so stairs are an unavoidable fact of life for me. Thus as cool as the monster scooters might be they are all impractical. Presently I'm looking at a Hiboy SR2 but hesitate due to its poor hill climbing. It has a 350W motor which is more powerful (At least I thought than my friends Swagtron EB 5 plies pro but that bike takes hills quite nicely so I'm confused. Maybe there's some difference in the hills I see the hiboys climb in reviews vs the ones I've actually witnessed climbed by the bike but regardless it makes making an informed decision difficult.

      @@spamham964 Losing warranty for what? There are video guides online showing step-by-step how to install both front and rear. Besides, I've done over 1700 km in 8 months of owning m365 pro 2, installed full suspension myself at 1200 kms and nothing went bad up to now. The difference is night and day - without suspension you'll struggle to ride on anything that is not 100% even asphalt and you won't feel comfortable riding for more than an hour and a half.... with full suspension it really doesn't matter where and how long you drive.
      Installing it can even prevent your battery from premature death and improve your range a bit. The only downside is that it now weighs 17,5 kg, not 14,2, and you definitely feel that .
      I think with Pro 3 they should include suspension from the factory and perhaps charge a bit extra for it.

      We also have some small streets, so on those u can ride safely, not lots of cars. On busy street I would be afraid to go into traffic, though, I'd just stick to pavement.

    Isn’t there some danger though, that even if they do legalise these things in the foreseeable, the fast one is going to at best get categorised as an electric motorbike? I think it may be overly optimistic to hope that something with a higher top speed than a moped would be legally treated more like an ebike.

    • @tiimsmiith1130
      @tiimsmiith1130 Před 2 lety

      Agreed. I read somewhere that its looking like 500w its gonna be the limit in the UK. So this at 2000w aint gonna fly.
      Also, no one needs to go over 15mph on a scooter imo. Anything above that should be for an ebike where you have more control, bigger wheels etc.

      @@tiimsmiith1130to use an e-bike legally on public roads or bike paths currently it has to be limited to 16mph anyway or licensed and insured as a moped (and used on roads only). I think there is a case for moving that up to 20mph for both scooters (when legalised) and e-bikes. The use case for scooters is for small and light ones that you can take on a bus /train/tram or put inside a locker at a gym or at school or work. They are great for 'the last mile'. But there is no point in an off-road 35kg £1700 scooter - unless you can't use a bike or pedal at all for some medical reason. Just get a e-bike for the same price. It's safer and has much better range and utility.

    Well the UK government have made private electric scooters illegal on UK roads. You are allowed to only use these scooters on private land. The point I want to make is that there are now council run E-transport bikes, so does this mean that they're now going to stop people using their own bikes?. All of the scooters if they don't carry warnings on there displays, then should and if two people jump on, them, the scooter shuts itself down.
    Individuals have been killed because safety is being overlooked.

That is like reaching out to touch a slow moving cannonball boucing past troops in a Napoleonic battle and losing a hand... you must use the brakes to stop a scooter and then step off. In my country there is a max speed and max power limit, it's not enforced, but 200W it's a little too low. I think power shouldn't be limited, only top speed, because with 200W you won't be able to go uphill.
