I cant help but think that the reason you have so many followers here and on your vlog is that your positivity, enthusiasm, and determination is so relatable for all of us. Watching you and Romeo as well as your mom and of course behind the scenes; your dad makes all of us so stinking proud of ya'll. We all feel like family here watching you complete this cottage and watch it come to life. You are what we all see as either a daughter, a sister or a beastie and we can't help but cheer your accomplishments through the camera. Thank you for sharing! You bring light to all our lives.

Macenna, I’m single (divorced, 2 children grown) and in my old home I bought 16 yrs ago.. I’ve worked hard, so many PROJECTS I’ve had to do myself some I’ve had help with.
    .
I take care of my lawn, I’ve made beautiful flower garden’s , I have a salon and grandchild’s sports (😍) Ive built my own garden house that I love, I’ve been so tired on so many hundred occasions, trying to do it all, I have literally crawled up my stairs to shower to go to bed..and dead to the world tired.
    .
I’ve stripped my old floors, sanded, rented machines, my PRECIOUS DEAR Mother helped me ever step of the way with my floors, and watching your Mother help you reminded me of those wonderful memories. ♥️
    .
But I’ve written this before and I just have to write it again.. You’re a HARD WORKER, people that have never done this kind of thing, just cannot grasp the amount of hard draining work this kind of work does to someone, and you are persistent and you stay at it to get it done.
    .
When you do it yourself and when it is all done, knowing the amount of work, and BRAIN WORK, which is so draining (especially when it is something you had to learn to complete the task) it is draining) but when you and Romeo and your parents are sitting there when it is ALL DONE, reminiscing you’re going to have the most wonderful feeling of accomplishment because GIRL YOU HAVE WORKED HARD!! HARD!! 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 and you should feel nothing less than proud of yourself!! I am sure your parents are and Romeo as well! 🙏🏻

We usually use the water proofing on a small part of walls as well, about 4-5 inches high like skirting, to add a seal and keep moisture out of the cracks in between floors and walls. After this barrier, we roll out a layer or two of a thick underlay. If the floor space is too large, the underlay can be done with intervening plywood boards in order to avoid having a dip in the middle of a room with time. You can try this at the guests’ cottages later. Lastly, transition pieces can vary, and a lot of them have a tongue to be imbedded between 2 types of flooring. I just hope you left some space to accommodate. Lastly, Loving every minute of your videos, Very nice work and a superior attention to detail overall. This is exactly how I’ve been doing it. This type of work has its toll, but it’s worth every second in the end. Take your time and takes care of yourself 💐

I have to admit that when you bought your cottage and we saw the condition of the floors I was sure you would rip them all out and start fresh. It has been amazing watching you, Romeo and your family replace missing pieces, remove all the linoleum (OMG what were they thinking covering up that floor???), connecting the old and new flooring, sanding, priming, staining and sealing all of your floors. The amount of research you do is incredible and in the end you get exactly what you want. My parent's house that was built in the 1800's had the same oak flooring and my mom was so proud when she cleaned and waxed it. His older videos are a little rough to start with (he started just filming with an iPad!) but his videography gets so good over time. He’s taking a break right now before starting the other side of the house, but there 5 years of weekly videos to binge if you’re looking for something.

ok I know the whole process of the floors has taken a while and we've all waited a while for this video but I personally don't mind because what are we gonna do when the whole cottage/guest cottages are completely finished and this series is over!? 🥺 I can't believe yous are finally moving in soon! I'm appreciating every big and little project more and more with each passing video, even the tedious ones

I also used the Bona on my floors and I LOVE it! I finished mine myself 3 years ago and my floors are still stunning. I also chose the Bona Traffic for my sealer and the Bona Classic for the finish.

The point about herringbone and being like a jigsaw puzzle is such a good one. How many puzzle lovers would never consider doing their floors because it's never been described to them like that before? Genius.

McCenna, look at all that labor of love that you,& your love ones are putting in your floors! Questions:"How do you agreed by deciding on what types of materials is needed for each flooring"?Do you consult prons on everything,or go with your own final decisions !Again,I enjoyed how you share with viewers on everything step by steps! I,too ❤ how all that labor of love is shining through yourselves working on each floors!

One question: Doesn't nailing the subfloor ruin the vapor barrier? I would assume it should remain intact 🤔

    • @erinmoore9681
      @erinmoore9681 Před 2 lety +4

Almost impossible in this application. Some vapor barrier systems come with penetration seal patches. But since the plywood is attached at random nail locations, the nail holes cannot be spray foamed and caulked. Since the RedGuard in this application is being used for concrete “sweat” the likelihood water will seep through is minimal.

You make it look so easy. I found the PERFECT house with a couple of acres...an old home made of petrified wood, not too far from where I am now. But it was built in the 50s and it basically needs to be totally gutted and redone. They want way too much for it to start with and even if I could swing THAT, I started adding up what it would take just to make it livable, and then trying to find a loan for it...ugh. I envy you, girl, and I'm so proud of you!
