- In this video we'll walk through the Christian Prayer book (both the 1 volume and the 4 volume) to get acquainted with what you'll find when you page through and what it's all about!
Also I'll discuss the 1 volume and 4 volume editions (both available in large type if you need that) and the pros and cons of each if you're considering purchasing your own for personal or family use!
Future videos will cover more terminology and the exact method of praying each hour of the Liturgy of the Hours/Christian Prayer.
God bless you!!
And here are the latin names I promised to include, but forgot to tell you all about in the video:
Office of Readings - formerly Matins
Morning Prayer - formerly Lauds
Daytime Prayer, Midmorning - formerly Terce
Daytime Prayer, Midday - formerly Sext
Daytime Prayer, Midafternoon - formerly None
Evening Prayer - formerly Vespers

You are so lucky to have done the LOH with your family - my relatives family are committed to 'nightly rosary' with the family for over 28 years, I wish they had 'changed it up' with their kids.
Laura, thank you so very much for this highly informative video! I appreciate the time you took to share the copious amount knowledge you have of this subject with others, and in particular, with your amazingly positive and exuberant personality! May God bless you for this fantastic work--keep smiling!
Oh, Ashley, I'm so glad it was helpful to you! thank you so much for supporting and encouraging me! God bless you, too!! And please always feel free to reach out and let me know what kinds of videos you'd like to see more of in the future. Thanks!!
That's the best run-through/ explanation of the one-volume LOTH I've ever seen. Great job!
Awesome! Thank you so much Misshappy😉
Video was awesome but - out of the pan and into the fire. For some, a slow 'walk' into LOH might be great - Shorter Christian Prayer - might be 'training wheels' before trying one of the bigger volumes (I have both four volume and single volume) and take up and put down the LOH in its full form as the 'spirit' wills (and I don't believe in exactitude - I try to get LOH close enough because it is private for me) I love that I am praying with the 'whole world'. At a Dominican church they do LOH before mass - with the public Mon-Fri, they use the Shorter Christian prayer book they have a 'rack of them' which is how I found out about that book. Also, there are many 'books' of the hours just morning and evening prayer - "to start the habit." A baby step is "Daily Prayer 202#' has one page a day tied to the daily readings of the mass and a psalm and can be used any time of the day or night (new book each year) "Give Us The Day" has morning prayer a psalm a short reading, the mass readings, and then evening prayer - all shorter versions, 12 single monthly 'books'. Both come in digital format and print, GUTD mailed to you each month. The monthly ones will mail you a sample mostly. I have not seen it but "Word on Fire" has a monthly LOH mailed to you, and then there is the Magnificat mailed monthly, I had a subscription to this, it is a pretty full on LOH with daily mass readings - but I found it was too much (remember I don't do exactitude) - note your mass readings might be different based on your archdioceses on occasion (take it as a little suffering when it happens every once in a while.) Part two ???
Great ideas! Thanks for sharing!!
@@mrshappycatholic I had tried to put all the links to find the resources in these comments but they got wiped out by youtube algorithm. I DO see that you have PART TWO I would put THAT in the description above, and do a 'potential' part three with the resources I mentioned. Your choice. czcams.com/video/Vh-tg6Kyvfc/video.html
@@mrshappycatholic There is MRS version and a MISS version of your videos.
If you are doing the traditional LOH it’s 7 prayers and a night prayer. The formal does not include the true Lauds which is 3am. Prime is the morning prayer in the reformed LOH which is 6am, not Lauds.
