SunGold has a pretty good deals on complete Solar system kits right now too.
As a computer engineer, that button battery is used in computers to retain CMOS settings when unplugged. If it is used for the same purpose here, then that batter never gets charged and will last roughly 8-10 years.
Also used to keep real time clock going when power is off. Not sure if this BMS would have an RTC for some reason.
@@IggyJackson It does have a RTC.
Any memory not burned or integrated.. EE
Glad to see some more competition that has decent quality! Thanks for reviewing!

Recall: BOOW - LiFePO4 Leisure Battery.
Two versions of 12V 100Ah lithium deep cycle battery, one with a yellow label and one with a blue label. Both with identical markings and labelling apart from the background of the label.
Recall due to poor construction and no BMS.
Can't put a link as I don't think they work on posts, but a quick Google gives all the details.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks for your detailed reviews. You've helped me to understand the quality vs cost difference of a few brands of the 48v rack mount batteries.
I like he fact that they torque marked every screw, bolt, and nut.
thats a neat lil battery pack. thanks for reviewing.
I'd love to have 3 of these for my Skoolie camper conversion.
Is there a pre-charge resistor built in?
Nice review, thank you.
Honestly seems like a decent option for this price. I wonder how well they handle warranty issues?
Coin-battery has the same role as classic BIOS battery: to keep minimal power on the parts that remember the settings you make. Removing it and disconnecting the BMS from the battery will most likely reset anything you configured on it.
I’m thinking the button battery to be changed out every so often ✅
I’m seeing what looks like a good amount of good work in this build 😊
Actually, the coin battery is in a typical PCB mounted cell holder. Looks like they dabbed a bit of silastic (adhesive) on it for vibration protection. Should be easy to peel off the silastic and replace the cell. If you look closely, most of the components that have any size or weight over that of the SMT components are staked to mitigate vibration damage.
thats a neat lil battery pack. thanks for reviewing.. Is there a pre-charge resistor built in?.
What caught my eye was the lack of thermal relief on the welded buss bars.
OOOO that's a very valid point that I missed in the review process. They're not multi-layered nor have humps in the middle to allow for expansion/contraction.
The thermal relief appears to be the packing straps. I'm concerned that the plastic straps may embrittle over time. Standard packing straps are designed for temporary use and not for 10 years and 7000+ thermal cycles.
Other than price, how is this battery compared to the one you had on your solar cart video?
Gut habe auch so einen Speicher 👍😊
Someone should start testing these breakers on these server racks and see if it can actually handle multiple on/off cycles under full load.
Your videos are very helpful. I just purchased 2 of those but can't figure out how to turn display on
They ship in a shutdown state. Press a small object, like a paper clip, into the RST (reset) hole and hold it for a second or two. It should start up the BMS/display.
My sungold inverter seems great so far the battery looks good also. Id love to have one or two
All the reviews I’ve seen on Sungoldpower products have been excellent. Customer reviews.
I've been waiting for a review/test video on these. Just ordered 2 of them through your link, I will put them in my system and if they work out good I will order 4 more. Thanks for the video.
Update these batteries are not in stock. They take your money and dont say anything, i had to contact them and then they said hopefully by the end of July. Not a good start for sales
I am in the same boat...Ordered mine during the Black Friday sale. They took my money and told me Early August, only after I reached out a week later for shipping info. Did your batteries show up?
@@mikemigliaccio8679 said they were due back in stock July 30th. Still no shipping info yet. Emailed them again asking for it. If I get another delay on them I will start a refund and go elsewhere
Buyers beware! Now they say middle of August. . .
When you buy from them you need to be super patience, they take a few weeks ,all the batteries i been getting from them is the same thing
hope the price keeps on plummeting !! if this gets cheaper we get sooner to co 0 housing day charge and night discharge :)
i want a 300/400 AH set on my camping to get fully independent of the grid
Hi sir I have a question due to the lifepo4 battery the inverter burned can happen because I have two inverter burned do you know anything about thank you
I just bought these batteries on 10-30-23 and then I was notified they are not being released until mid November. Their reason that they are held up at the port of entry.
That doesn't seem too unreasonable? Next week is mid-November.
@@LithiumSolar Greetings and thanks for all your effort.
I am just concerned that a previous commenter mentioned they were out of stock in June as well. With all the ugliness going on in Western Asia I am worried my back-up system isn't running. I know nothing of SunGold's reputation. If these people are "optimistic" about delivery dates. I want to make other plans. Just looking for feedback. Thanks again and Best Regards Keith
Do you know if this battery can be installed on its back so the face is up?
i would assume that the coin battery is for some integrated memory of some sort for remembering settings and such
My guess is that the cycle times and settings are stored in ram
what is batter bms brand used ? is it pace or ? i wonder will it work with my POWMR inverter but in order to know that i would need to know what bms brand is inside ? tnx
Wonder if this battery can communicate with growatt 3000 ES?!
Are those terminal covers removable so the user could mount their mount their cables in any orientation or use a larger gauge cable?
No. The cables can only connect from the outside orientation. You would have to remove and replace the terminals if you require any other orientation.

Some type of Cmos battery like on a computer to save bios settings.
Judging by the vents, I think those are EVE cells. I know they manufacture some 100 amp hour cells that are shorter and thicker than their 105ah cells. I could be totally wrong, but that's what I suspect.
And they are out of stock. Waiting on my complete system to ship and found out today they won't be shipping for another 1 to 2 weeks🤬 Meanwhile I have no AC
*Looks VERY WEll Made*
Seems like a Good deal!
no pre charge resistor?
The handles seem a little too close to the terminals, an improperly insulated/terminated positive wire could potentially make contact with the handle and short.
If you look closely, the handle has sufficient distance and when the handle is folded, it is not an issue.
Might want to ad a clip set up to hold the handle away from the connections. I would simply remove the handles. The folding would make it harder to carry it anyway, and I’m not planning on toting them around anyway. Get them out of the box and put them in the mounting location and remove the handles or fasten them down with any number of methods. Sure, batteries can have issues requiring service, but a properly sized and installed system shouldn’t need any service for a long time. Unless you are constantly modifying your system, and even that is not likely to require dismounting and remounting batteries. I really like the readouts and the label you said you don’t see elsewhere.
The charge alarm is set to 5%... anybody know how to up that?
Would they ship to puerto rico?
Can you Review ExpertPower 48v battery?
The button battery is most like a rechargable to hold data for a time without power. Have seen in some things like my old vcr, a couple times it went to other than english and had to wait for about 24 hours with it unpluged to reset, after a few years it happed again but only took like 8 hours to discharge. I think if it stopped working, it would just lose data if it gets unpluged and has no power.
That's exactly the concern - whether or not that button cell is responsible for storing the BMS settings that will be lost once it dies. I'll have to do some more testing.
@LithiumSolar I would think the only time the button battery would be used to back up data would be if the 48v battery bank was disconected or the bank went to near 0 volts and that shouldn't ever happen under normal use unless left for a real long time in storage (years?).
@@putteslaintxtbks5166 I think a more likely scenario when the button battery will be used is when the BMS decides to shut down the main battery for any reason (overvoltage, overtemp, etc.), since at that point the battery should not be drained even by the BMS itself, so the BMS switches to backup power from the button battery so it can continue to run.
@@hubertnnnYep. Hadn't thought of that.
Another positive is that all the circuit boards appear to be conformal coated.
Interesting that the front panel is nearly identical to the Jakiper/Orient power batteries.
They're pretty much all using the same BMS brand with occasional company-specific varients.
I have some pieces of lithium phosphate batteries 🔋 that don’t retained charge 🪫 and I noticed the electrolyte seal covers are broken 😞.
Can that cause a problem to the batteries?
Can I add an Electrolyte to the batteries cells?
What type of electrolytes can I add.
Please kindly help me with a tips or solutions:
Thanks
If the vent is broken/open, there is no way to repair it safely. I would immediately disconnect the cell and take it to be properly and safely recycled. Also, the electrolyte is not safe to breathe or get on your skin. Please be careful.
@@LithiumSolar can I use plastic cover with super glue to fix the broken seal? I know how dangerous it is, but it’s not easily finding another cell for changing the faulty cell
Lithium batteries that weigh this much are not legally able to ship by ground services. Over 75 lbs un3480 must be by freight. They need to refer to 49CFR
Wow, didn't know that! And I can think of one other that shipped similarly as well...
Battery for for the RTC
I notice all the famous brand UL9540 approved battery cost around 7k to 10K for 15KW. All the non approve are 1/3 the price.
Not should if offer here in Australia. But with only 100 A hours to small for my system. 6 gauge is that 70A cable?
Only 100A? That's a huge amount of power at 48V. And yes, the internal wiring is 6 Awg for the positive.
@@LithiumSolar Yes 70 A is still good.
@@chuxxsss Where are you coming up with 70A? The battery is rated for 100A.
@LithiumSolar Cable size, but I could be wrong as I have not seen the copper thickness.
@@chuxxsss #6 is good for 101A in chassis wiring. Not 70A.
how do we know these are not bad grade cells they re using in these packs ?
They test at full capacity and appear visually to be brand new. That's about the level of sureness I can provide.
@@LithiumSolar Many thanks.
I just bought four of these batters and I can't get them to turn on...what am I doing wrong?
The batteries are shipped with the BMS in a shut-down state. To start it for the first time, use a paper clip or other pointy object to press and hold the RESET button for a few seconds.
Try to get Sungold let you review SunGoldPower 8KW 48V Split Phase Solar Inverter. Please.
Been looking hard at purchasing these as they are really cheap if you get free shipping. One thing that has come up. They advertise that they communicate with all kinds of inverters. I have a victron multiplus and when I asked about it to make sure it would, they were less sure. Asked if Victron has a way to select certain battery manufacturers. Victron says no, there is no selection of a battery. Victron does have a list of Batterys that are approved and work with system. Sungold is not on it. Victron said their may be a work around but not info for that on Sungold specs. Sungold said I should just buy the batteries victron recommends
I think the way it works with most of these batteries are the BMS company programs certain protocols in the BMS, then the battery manufactures are all using the same BMS and advertising inverter support based on popular protocols (like pylontech). I don't think most (any?) of these battery manufacturers actually test themselves based on my past experience with a select few. If you need the communication with Victron, I personally would not buy one unless someone can confirm it works. Unfortunately, I don't have any Victron inverters to test with and be able to answer that question. My opinion is that they should not be advertising support if they have not validated it themselves.
@@LithiumSolar agreed on the false advertising end of things. I am questioning whether I need the communication link at all. Personally I do not quite understand what exactly I get from the inverter/charger communicating to the battery. Obviously that is not a requirement. I was looking at the cheap SOK battery. it doesn't have a communication feature. What do you need it for? I mean, your setting the charging parameters somewhere right? and this battery does have it's own screen where you can check state of charge and such. What is so important that you get from one of these closed loop communication links?
@@LithiumSolar Just a follow-up to this thread. This morning I received an e-mail from Sungold support stating they have confirmed with their engineers that the Victron inverter protocols are included in this battery and that they have tested it with a Victron inverter. When you are dealing with Sungold support you are obviously dealing with a Chinese person. English is their second language and my guess is the person you are having technical discussions with was hired for their language skills. This person is not an actual engineer or even an advanced technical person. So anything complicated is going to involve someone whos first language is not english translating to someone in chinese and then getting their response and translating back to english. It is easy to see how hard it might be to get correct answers. I am hoping for the best. .
@@squarpegthe charger has most of the info, I agree, who needs to know if the battery likes chocolate ice cream or vanilla? After much study and thought, the battery and inverter chargers like this both have their own parameter readout, and thus one will tell you everything you need to know. There are some shutdown parameters the inverter can read directly from the battery, but my old school Outback inverter and separate charge controller do allof the things I need, and are programmable as well. The new hybrid inverters automatically monitor battery parameters and can be set to do everything the communication between the devices do already. Aloha!.
PS, I think I’m also thinking about the EG-4 battery to inverter communication ports and how they are plug and play with battery to hybrid inverter com line that is preset. Considering Signature Solar has been the only source of that stuff, and I just went through the nightmare ish contact with Signature, as many have stated In reviews and elsewhere, and this stuff seems pretty standard, this battery has all the important info and communication features you would need.

A little confused on your free shipping comment. First you say its free then it's not really free. Please explain
I'm confused by your question. The batteries ship free. I didn't say anywhere that the shipping was not free.
@@LithiumSolar My mistake. I though you said "Not free" and it was "Not freight"
I heard the same thing, thanks for the clarification.
Usually, the coin batteries on circuit boards is for a memory of some sort. Sometimes it could be as little as just a clock.
Certainly it is the battery for the real time clock. It allows the BMS to time-stamp events such as faults and lifetime maximum and minimum cell voltages. Typically they have a 10-year life in these applications. Failure of the button cell shouldn't prevent the battery as a whole from workiing.
Battery is probably for real time clock and probably settings storage.
Settings are usually stored in EEPROM with no need for power to retain it.
Hey i seen your diy video on 3500 watt i think do u sell that version or 4000 lol ?
No. I do not sell batteries.
@@LithiumSolar no not batteries, do u sell the generator ?
Are there good US or EU made options?
SOK for the US market for sure. They're not US-made but they're sold and serviced by a company here in the US (Current Connected).
New to this channel, what is everyone using these for?
They use them to store solar power during the day, so you can run your inverter (think generator) during the time the sun isn't shining.
I think it was your channel that an inverter was Sungold was being talked about and it looked like it was maybe a MPP clone or ever just a renamed by MPP witch should mean it's made in Taiwan and not China and to me that's a great thing. Wonder if batteries are also made other than China? Don't like my money getting into CCP, that has declared us as an enemy. Seems Sungold is a good brand of what I hear and for inverters are fair priced. Does anyone have more input about Sungold?
It's funny when people don't understand their own country, and the fact that it is an evil empire, with 800 military bases around the globe, destroying country after country and according to a recent Brown University Report, has killed 5 million people over the last 20 years and displaced over 100 million, although they do admit if they could closely follow outcomes, the real number killed is probably over 10 million...China isn't killing anybody, but they do make everything we need...Wake up, and nourish yourself with something other than propaganda..
Its all Chinese made. Nearly impossible to get LiFeP04 cells that aren't made in China. There are some non Chinese made inverters and other componenets but even Victron has some manufacturing in China now, not just India and some other Far East countries.
There used to be Molicels (NMC) made in Canada but I think nomore
These are not in stock! Beware they take your money and dont let you know. After making contact they say end of July sometime
if you put on credit card, you can always cancel the transaction. probably have to let them know within 30 days of the card being charged.
-4 to 140 F degrees temp range?? I seriously doubt that
It can discharge at those temperatures. It cannot be charged below freezing, and regardless of what the manufacturer says, I would not do either at 140F.
@@LithiumSolar Yeah, that label was a bit misleading. Great review, as usual I really enjoy your style, no BS
I live in the Southwest and temps outside have been in excess of 113F this week. I can confirm these batteries do work well at 125F and will charge and discharge all night even when ambient temps are above 105F. I am not so happy with the support I have received from SunGold but the batteries themselves are a solid product and I have no doubts about the specs. Just My 2 cents after real world use.
now at 1650$
The price gets discounted when you add it to the cart.
Competition is good, but really matters is dependability/longevity. Because it's easy to drop $10K or more on batteries, this is what most people really care about, not how pretty the inside is..
I fully agree. These rack batteries all end up in my own off-grid setup and I'll be sure to report back any problems I encounter.
i hope you can explain also in human language hehe , so we all understand , most people have no technical back ground at all, so please explain in a way we know what it can do , because until now ...we still dont know. thank you , see this comment as advice hehe, not as bad hehe
