Vanishing Clues of the Bent Pyramid

  • The Bent Pyramid at Dahshur remains a woefully neglected monument in desperate need of scientific scrutiny. The unique shape of the pyramid is amazing, but the story of the Bent Pyramid goes far beyond a change in slope.
Deep inside the pyramid are many clues which are disappearing in the modern era. These pieces of the puzzle need to be restored in order for the full history of the pyramid to be understood, which can perhaps explain it's unique role in Egyptian history.
Can Egyptology come to terms with how this pyramid's excavation was botched - and is there any hope of scrutinizing the evidence which becomes fainter with each passing season?

This video was a huge effort, so thanks to everyone who has been waiting patiently. The Bent Pyramid is one of the most difficult pyramids to cover, and it's important to get the facts correct. I always learn something new when diving in deep, and this video was no exception. Soon I'm off to Egypt, and hopefully I can take some pictures that will really start to bring this mysterious pyramid into the light.

Great stuff. I'm an architect. I had to memorize the names and dates and correct spelling of all the "important" pyramids and temples in egypt when I was in architecture school in 1980s. Tests were "fill in the blank" and litterally 1/2 of my class failed Architectural Histroy. It was the toughest non-design studio class I ever took. Harder than physics.
I learned almost nothing from that architectural history ordeal. Except how to spell "Hatshepsut" correctly.
I was always frustrated by the way these magnficent and mysterious structures were presented in my history classes. I wanted to know more about the culture and people who created them. I wanted to understand their context - their reason for being.

The good thing is there is very good photographic software to greatly help reveal faint, nearly invisible petroglyphs. Hopefully a legitimate researcher will go in that direction and photograph the faded petroglyph you speak about as well as other interior wall and ceiling spaces in all the pyramids to see if there's anything there beyond human sight.

A few videos ago I mentioned that I hoped you’d do videos on other pyramids soon, so seeing this made me happy and excited to watch. I feel like this pyramid, as well as many others besides the Great Pyramid, are almost criminally understudied in the modern era on CZcams. I often feel very hungry for knowledge on other Egyptian pyramids and monuments, because there just isn’t much attention given to them currently imo. So thank you for putting in all the work to make this video. This pyramid is extremely interesting to me, it’s so different and unique from others and I feel like there are MANY things left to be discovered/understood about it if it were just given more attention. *Thank you* for all your hard work documenting this pyramid. Snefru’s Bent Pyramid has *always* been my favorite. Even as a child I never believed its angles were a “mistake”. @chrisd3674 Před 9 měsíci +2

All the pre-Giza pyramids are my favorite. I will say that I listened to him carefully when he commented on the idea that the angle change was a mistake, and he didn't use wording strong enough to imply he didn't believe it to be the case--just that he didn't seem to think it was a forgone, 100% definite, conclusion.
Me, not being an expert in the remotest sense, does wonder if it could have been to help deter access to the upper part of the pyramid, but I believe there is a lot of good evidence that it was primarily to correct the stability issues.

Great video once again! You really outdo yourself everytime! For next video, i suggest the pyramid orientation offset which gives clues on the age of the pyramids, from Kate Spence paper

Thank you for an additional look inside this odd looking structure.
This video helps provides greater clarity on the layout of the pyramid, although the how's and why's for its' construction remain obscured by "the sands of time." I think we viewers benefit from the extra time you've had to "mull it over," and I, for one, can better understand your fascination with these mysteries after this video, and reviewing the first, longer one. It's certainly a weird looking pile of rocks -- not at all a monument that would be considered as elegant.
It looks damn hot and uncomfortable in there, and seeing the bats hanging on the wall makes my "skin crawl," as my mother used to say. After all your expense in time and dollars to get in there again, I sincerely hope that nothing hinders your access to those places requiring more attention and further exploration.
Wishing you smooth sailing, unhindered exploration, and a great trip, overall. I look forward to viewing your next Indiana Jones moment.

This is quite possibly the most interesting series on CZcams, rn. Michael Tracy, Let’s Crack Zodiac and History for Granite are top flight.

so.....i went to egypt as kid and saw all this stuff, unfortunately i was a kid and knew very little. Here i am 35 years later still awed by these structures and having watched many many many documentaries on this- i would say yours are the best. Very much the way CFapps did his documentaries and i loved them too.....rip Chuck
