Real filmmaking no CGI no bullshit.
Damn right!!!
There will never be another movie car chase as good.
Shit , you never saw the MOVIE BULLITT, THE CAR CHASE ALL OTHERS ARE JUDGED AGAINST.
@@twolak1972 You should watch Gone In 60 Seconds, I'm sure you will enjoy it emensly.
@@twolak1972 GSS was way better, even tho bullit was very cool.
It’d be cool if this movie got a theatrical re-release for its 50th anniversary. Would be great to see it on the big screen.
That would be great 😉👍
Loved the car-wash scene at the end.
Hilarious scene indeed! 😉👍
Go get another 😂😂
He didn't get a single permit for any of the filming
Yeah, it was all pretty crazy stuff that would certainly get a person jailed for life these days!
Ahhh" the good ol days.
Cool. 😎
Saw this at the ‘drive in’ with my parents back in the day . Remember liking it. I watched it again recently decades later. I still like it.
😉👍
I LIVED OFF OF "CRENSHAW BOULEVARD AND 135TH ST. IN GARDENA, CA. AND GOT TO WATCH MORE THAN HALF THE CHASE SCENES IN THIS MOVIE... IT WAS GLORIOUS ‼️
Awesome!👍
Truly a historic car. Also glad people build their own with no fear of legal reprisals.
Remember seeing the movie downtown and the car on a trailer out front. The remake, as far as I'm concerned was a bomb.
I too remember going to the movie and seeing the car in-front of the theater(s) around town; probably August of 1974 as it was still summer break from school in San Bernardino, California.
@@Chuck_Carolina On "E" street, downtown San Bernardino. Where I saw it.
@@lynnmccurdythehdmmrc2561 Yea! They trailered the car around town during those day at different places - it always showed back-up in front of a theater in the evenings (there were 2 theaters by my house). I saw the movie at the theater behinds Von's Super Market at the corner of Highland and Sterling Avenues. I was 14 yrs old at the time - so we were riding Schwinn single speed Moto Cross bikes back then. I grew-up living on Arden Av 5 houses up north of Pumalo.
I seen the car on display at the fair in Only IL.
Sorry but as much respect as I have for the original, the remake is massively superior. Not only it made $240M on a $90M budget, but the new Eleanor turned into the most replicated car ever, starting a years long legal battle over the name. Most people don't remember, and some don't even know what the original Eleanor looks like
I know it's not the correct line, but it's how I remember it; "Wash, no wax" ;-D
"You know those parking lot attendants."
I’m from LA and one time I decided to find the exact off-ramp where the light pole crash was filmed. And I found it, it’s on I-110 North at the exit to 223rd street just before Sepulveda. And that stretch of I-110 looks exactly the same now as it did in the movie.
Iirc in the movie I recall alot of police radio chatter mentioning sepulveda ✌️
Haha that's pretty cool man.
A couple of years back a buddy just went on a ride all over the country with his kids for a month.
Haha he went to the Goonies house and found out there's all kinds of barricades and fences and no trespassing signs, could barely see the place I guess 😂
Eh he still had a good time he said
I'm fortunate enough to live on the street where the final jump was filmed. When I saw the movie for the first time, I was like 'wait a minute...that street looks familiar.' The street hasn't changed at all lol
@@machupikachu1085much of LA has changed very little over the years. Sometimes you really can say that the more things change the more they stay the same.
That is a great movie. I can’t hardly watch the remake anymore
The 40+ minute chase sequence is actually quite amazing. I also enjoyed the female dispatcher and her computer, and the two detectives with their radio talk. The fact that it's almost 40 years old adds more fun to watching it. Oh, and also another fun car chase is the one in "Strange Shadows in an Empty Room", which apparently goes by other names as well.
Many of the "actors" were actually friends and family of Toby. There's so many stories about this movie... Real bystanders, unaware of the filming, yelled at the (acted) "police officers" to help the "crash victims"... The crash into a lineup of Caddies at a dealership going wrong: the crash should only affect Toby's own Caddies, but in fact some of the real dealerships cars were dmaged and had to be paid for by Toby ... and many more.
@@foolishwatcher Wow, very interesting.
Almost 50 years old
@@aidanfeighery6634 Oh. Yes, right. My mistake.
351 c 4 v engines were rated at 300 hp amazed the car survived the pole crash great video
Thanks much. Indeed, and it would certainly have blew apart and probably had killed him right then and there if it were just a regular stock Mustang.
The light pole crash, was an incident. They kept rolling film. Actually it broke a ball joint.
@@johnnycook2600 According to the DVD extras it also broke his ankle.
The *two* "1973" Challengers ("Jill") were 'updated' 1970 models ; one was a 440 powered R/T (the t-boned one which was getting cut up after being purchased at that auction) , the other was a 383 two barrel model (stolen from the LAX airport lot).
Both were built in Los Angeles Assembly ; R/Ts V.I.N. exhibited in one scene ( *JS23U0E* ) ; regular hardtop's V.I.N. in another scene ( *JH23L0E* ).
I like to know what happened to both of those challengers as they are quite rare. ( btw, yes, i know their are more rarer challengers than these R/T's models), so how much money do you think will pull in today's market if they were still around.
@@milfordh.mercado2787 , *Both* cars were sacrificed for the film:
- *JS23U0E* was cut-up (the "1973" model purchased at the auction) and stripped of its V.I.N. and other parts ;
- *JH23L0E* had the V.I.N from the 440 R/T swapped onto it , along with the 440, etc.
That's the one which was thrown into the crush & grind machine after the chase from *Prince* *Chrysler* *Plymouth* while hooked to the slingback tow truck.
The first car - the 440 Magnum R/T - would be worth quite a bit these days. It was loaded with options; I seem to recall that it had the *Super* *Performance* *Axle* *Package* (4.10 Dana) among other desirable options.
But, back in 1972, 1973, it - and its 383 two barrel "twin" - was merely a 2 - 3 year old car.
@johnhughes9019 well thank you, sir for comferimg with the facts of what happened to both challengers and yes i do wish sometimes that filmmakers would have saved not so cool cars too.
@@milfordh.mercado2787 , You are welcome, sir.
One car which was "compromised" in a film is the 1971 Road Runner 383 in 'The Friends of Eddie Coyle' (1973).
A *great* film with a solid cast (Robert Mitchum, Peter Boyle, etc.).
The Road Runner is *GY3* *Curious* *Yellow* , a 1971 - only colour.
Do yourself a favour, and watch that film.
@johnhughes9019 thanks and have a good day bye now.
I like your "right to business, no messing around" style.
Maybe a video on
- Rockford's Firebird
- The French Connection's Lincoln
- Colombo's Peugeot
Thanks!
Thanks much and thanks also for the suggestions 🙂👍
I was just at the Long Beach Grand Prix this weekend. Whenever I see the International Towers building (the round one) I always remember the scene as he pulled out of the underground garage there, bluffing the cop.
You can also see the old Long Beach Arena in the background when it was still kind of pink & white colors (before the Weyland whale mural).
😉👍
Saw it in the theater with mom when I was 5years old! Amazing on the the big screen !
one of the best car chase / heist films ever
Absolutely😉👍
My all time favorite movie.
Great job on this video for this wonderful car and movie. I've always loved this movie since owning my dad's '73 Mustang race car. Mines rough, but not as rough as Eleanor is. Just shows you, looks aren't everything. It's what's under the hood and body that counts.
Thanks and that's cool!
GREAT FLICK , BEAUTIFUL CAR.
I got to see it when they toured it with the film. Looked at it. Yeah pretty crashed up. Remarkable part was the dual emergency brake levers.
My favorite movie! I also own a 1972 Mach 1 Q code in medium, bright yellow that I call my Eleanor. Love your videos keep up the great work.
Nice and glad you are enjoying the channel 😉👍
I did watch the show very cool thanks for your time 😊
Glad you enjoyed it 😉👍
no cgi all real
I love it. Well done. Glad to hear Eleanor is still around for entertainment. "Next?!" Can you say.."Dirty Mary, and Crazy Larry"? Curious about the chargers history, and probably could care less about the 66 full size.
P.S. Ooops. I just saw you already did that. I'll be checking it out. :)
Indeed and Thanks :-)
I saw this movie when i was in high school. It was great. I'm from Texas but work in Long beach California for now. Its fun to see how much the area where it was filmed has changed.
That Mustang was a tough Car
Indeed! 😉👍
fact not mentioned... the light pole he crashed into.... the city made him pay for it... so he took it!
Indeed 😁
Nice video! Thanks for the info
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it 😉👍
#11 the chase scene on the highway was done on a Sunday so there wouldn’t be much traffic. No closed roads
So true! Some by standers thought this was all real!
As well as generally all done in early am hours, to prohibit/reduce chances of law enforcement interaction. Read - no filming permits, etc. - part of the low budget filming aspect.
Enjoyed!!!! 👍👍
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. 🙂👍
Loved this movie. It craps all over the remake.
Anything with Nicolas Cage... shouldn't exist :P
My second car was a 73 Mustang. It actually came with a 1/2 Lionel top. William s
😉👍
I like the dual handbrake idea. Might have to steal that for my own car 😮
Indeed ingenious and that technique was used later for stunt cars, like the 2005 Tumbler Batmobile that could brake the front wheels individually for instance 😉👍
The Best Friday night movie ever!
On fact #4,Halicki was unconscious for 2 day and he woke the first the he asked was"Did we get the shot?"
Indeed, man that was one guy very dedicated to his work!
Saw this movie on its release....so much better than the remake.
I always liked that Mustang but it was so unbelievably heavy out of the factory compared with its predecessors.....even heavier once it had been strengthened for the stunt work.
99% of remakes are ok if they're forgotten.
I mean the remake was a good movie , if it had a different name all together.
And now H.B. Halicki's widow is suing everybody for copyright infringement. I guess that greed can't tell the difference between a 1971 Mustang Sportsroof and a 1967 Mustang Fastback.
This is real stunts back the not like the shit the make with the fast and furious garbage. Dirty mary crazy larry had great stunts alsoade in 74 also
Just saw the movie for the first time a few minutes ago.
Just discovered your channel and I absolutely love your content! Any chance you could do a video on the truck and car from Duel?
Thanks. Yep, Duel has already been requested multiple times and has been an my list from the beginning 🙂👍
@@CarStarz42 you are my hero! Duel is my all time favorite movie, so I greatly look forward to it!
Can you do one for the Wraith interceptor please?
Yep, that one's on my super long list👍
Oh hell yeah, the Dodge M4S was a seriously badass research car!
I wonder why he crushed the undamaged Mustang after filming?
Yeah, it's strange for sure. All I found on that was that whenever asked by colleagues and friends of what he did with that Mustang; he would just state that he crushed it and wouldn't elaborate further on the subject. Maybe that one really was stolen, lol!
Another great fact filled video! Where do you get all of your research?
I'm fortunate enough to live on the street where the final jump was filmed. When I saw the movie for the first time, I was like 'wait a minute...that road looks familiar.' The street hasn't changed at all lol
Very cool👍
And to answer your question it's complicated, lol; I dig deep into various trusted information sources to find as verified info as I can, sometimes from the web, sometimes from other places. Wherever the info I need is; I seek it out although sometimes I can spend days trying to find what I need to get the info from certain people directly contacting museums and such or even finding old info in print if I have to. I do my best to be valid 😉
IMO the only Elenor Mustang
I wonder if this Mustang body of the 73 sports roof would be a good candidate for the 73 Falcon XB Australian.
Almost same body, I think.
Now It's almost impossible to even get near a xb Falcon for sale.
....Even In Australia!
They are rare now for sure!
One of my most favourite movies ever. Shame it was remastered with new soundtrack, if you haven't seen this movie, try and find a version with the original soundtrack, it's much better.
On a side note: I've read countless times that his wife Denise is a right piece of work! $$$$$$ her greed knows no depths!
her middle name is Yoko. 😉
Too soon?
A team van next ;)
Thant one is already on my large to do list😉 Thanks
👍
Made 40mill and cost 150K to make! Not including merch!! That 40 mill is almost 260million today!
When one man had to steal 50 cars in order to sa... wait no that can't be right i must be think remake and not this hard-core classic with the indestructible legend of 'Eleanor' a real tough mustang to survive one of the most intense car chases ever see in movie before or since so thank you for doing this video and yes the remake was ok until the big chase were half of it was real but few scenes did have cgi including the bridge jump and dockside if you're looking very closely so with that see you next time bye now.
Indeed, I mean I do think the remake Mustang itself is quite cool too and I might cover it at some point if I have many folks ask about it, which no one has yet, lol. But yes, as with most Nick Cage car films, it gets ruined at some point by very shabby CGI that's so bad it looks like it was a clip taken from a bad 1990s TV show. They ruined Drive Angry in the same exact way unfortunately 😳
@CarStarz42 thanks my friend and yes you should do video on the remake too but let me add another movie for you to see that much better like say shaker's run a underrated flim were stunt driver and his young mechanic are fooled into breaking out dangerous toxin that end life on earth by scientist who wants to destroy it as the evil people are chasing after them to recover before everyone knows about it i hope your interested buddy 😉.
@@milfordh.mercado2787 Sounds interesting; I'll add that one to my list to look into. Thanks 😉👍
The only car to have its on star n the credits j it dire earned it
Not sure about the cars starting as MACH1 Mustangs. I saw the real car at Peterson and the car has ZERO MACH1 trim or parts including the interior. I kinda doubt HB would buy Mach1 and remove all those parts to replace them with base models parts. Note the flat base model hood and base model grille. A great film. BTW HB toured with the car when the film came out.....and I saw hima nd car in Charlotte.
Halicki may have gotten it from his junkyard and didn't bother to put the trim on
As a kid in the 60s I remember watching a movie on tv in which there was a road race. There was a car used that had a dorsal fin and the fin was painted the name of the drivers girlfriend. The name was something like Elaine or Eleanor. Would you have any idea what the name of the movie is?
Sounds like Death Race 2000?
Halicki is an incredibly greedy woman. She attempted to claim ownership of the Eleanor copyright, which was based on a 1967 Shelby. Fortunately the courts did the right thing and the Shelby estate prevailed.
she's awful.
She was going nuts taking people’s cars for just calling the Eleanor
I saw this multiple times in the theater when it was released, hands down the best car chase movie ever filmed. Number two is Bullit. The remake Nick Cage movie is horrible.
Definitely! I mean I did like the custom '67 Mustang car itself in the remake, but the movie itself was indeed just pathetic compared to the original!
One car was a 289 and the car used was a 390. The 289 car busted the front springs on the first jump. The 390 was used in the entire movie.
I was gonna ask if it was a Windsor, Cleveland, or Modified, but that answers that 😊
You’re welcome. Doug
Car Star episode request. Movie: THX 1138, Car: 1967 Lola T70 MkIII. Thanks
Yep; that one is indeed already on my big list to look into. Thanks 😉👍
Car you do a video of Jim Morrisons Shelby Mustang?
Possibly at some point 👍
That was and is a bad ass movie the 70's was the best for car chase movies but the remake Gone in 60 seconds is nothing compared to the Original and I think there never should of been a remake
Indeed on both accounts 😉
After the aggressive lawsuit against the CZcamsr because a viewer nicknamed his project car elenore, I’ve lost interest in this car or the movies
She lost in court, so people have free reign to build eleanor replicas without a lawsuits now.
@@TheSlow281 Finally. Justice is served. So I don't have to call my Mustang 'Schmelenore' anymore?
Not the Mach1 hood though.
Not all MACH Is had the the twin scoop hood. The one I have originally had the flat hood. I was ten when my friends mom bought it new. He got it in high school, I bought from him a couple years ago. It''s a real MACH I . There were so many options for the model year, you could get them many diiferent ways.
I did hear that about the suit and she was married to him, so she is owner of the car and name. Any other is just a copy .
Indeed.
Why crush the perfect one? It would be Bullitt caliber. Collectors would shell out 6 figures at least.
True, indeed an odd decision by Mr. Halicki; maybe it really was stolen? 😬 Lol.
@@CarStarz42maybe his greedy wife wanted it, and he didn't want her to have the money lol
It's a '71 with a '73 grille
Halicki did like to swap parts around on those for sure 😉👍
I 'm pretty sure that the car had a 351 Windsor engine and not the Cleveland.
The 351c came out in 69, the last year the 351w was offered in the mustang.
Cleveland was the preferred power plant in that year.
@@rossgirdeen3247 due to the exchange rate, the Windsor had less power.
It's too bad his wife actually stole and "repossessed" cars from people.. She's a real great person... except not in anyway..
Yeah, she's a real piece of work for sure 😬
Not fun for this big guy to sit in the back folded up like a lounge chair for an hour drive.
Wreckin shit !!!😉🤣🤣🤣🤣
Big mistake crushing the show car
Yeah, that was odd for sure.
Fact number 11 the ugliest mustang ever made.
Fact number 12 your comment is farther from the truth than we are to to the government
I thought Eleanor was a '67.
That was the 2000 remake you are referring to there that had the custom '67; this is the original and much better 1974 film. Give it a watch if you want to see the craziest and real (non-CGI) car chase sequence ever made.
