The 1974 Gone in 60 Seconds Original Eleanor. A 1971 Sportsroof that is actually made to look like a 1973 Mustang Sportsroof currently on display at The Petersen Automotive Museum. Plus check out the cool memorabilia from the movie and some old school Mustang Pedal cars. Mustang 50th Birthday Celebration at the Petersen Automotive Museum - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Nice to see Eleanor. I worked for Toby and hauled the car around the country in 1972-73. Showed it at race tracks, auto shows. shopping malls and premiers in different Cities. Toby was a very interesting person. Helped me out a lot. May he rest in Peace.
gale smagacz Wow Gale that is amazing, I would love to hear stories about Toby. A unique individual who seem to do things his way, a true cult icon and sadly a tragic ending.
One question that always puzzled me did Eleanor have a 302, or 351 Windsor or 351 Cleveland?
Seriously?
@@gagegumbert7628 It's supposed to be a 351.
LITTLE Cleveland or Windsor?
I touched that car when I was a kid when they brought it to Dallas to promote the movie. I put my finger in the bullet holes, and the tires felt like hard plastic, not rubber. I'll never forget it.
Can't believe I'm just now seeing this vid.
Fuck, this makes me sad, yet astonished. I have a 71' Mach 1 and I was recently rear ended by a semi on the freeway and sent into a concrete center divider and my Mach took a nasty hit but saved my life. Walked away with no broken bones. I knew these cars could take a beating like no others and still run, fuck I love em.
Forget, bullet, fast and the furious, and that crock remake of this classic, with Nicolas cage (rubbish) the original gone in 60 second's is by far the best iconic car chase in cinama history, timeless classic. And a total joy to see this lady up close, thank u,for this film, and thanks to whoever shot this lady for us to drool over....
Thanks Lee, I hope you are well and safe and it would be cool for someone to retrace the chase scenes from this movie now....
Hitting the light pole was NOT in the script---he clipped a car causing him to spin out. They decided to put the crash into the light pole into the movie---personally I'm glad they did put it into the movie.
Very true, he was laid up for quite a while after that "accident" and lucky he didn't die in that wreck.
juding by where the pole hit I'm guessing they had to replace the wheel/ suspension on that corner
@@AL-ud2is not even. Just a new tire and good to go. Just watched that scene closely and the suspension seems intact. Old cars really were built like tanks it seems
Such an amazing and beautiful looking car. Ford did an *outstanding* job on this car!
Talk about ICONS! Just awesome just looking at it!! 🥳👍🏾😎👌🏾🥰🤟🏾😆
Saw this car at the premier of the movie at the Holiday Theater in Bellflower, California. Pretty amazing.
Most iconic movie car in history (next to the Bullet mustang, though I personally think Bullet over shadowed this movie due to WHO the actors were, but that's just me).
I think Bullitt overshadowed it, too.
It's nice to see that Eleanor still exists. Best movie I ever saw in my life. My VHS copy is lost in Dublin so it's up for grabs so if anyone finds it could they dub me a copy? The movie just isn't the same without Phil Kachaturian's "Lois Lane Blues"
Full movie is on CZcams!
Old is Gold what an epic car.
This car is a legend
My favourite car chase movie of all time and Mustangs are king 🔥💪🏼
Loved that movie n that car the star of the movie
Best chase ever filmed! I've watched it over 100 times. About as many as I've watched On Any Sunday! Both great movies
231flash I think the first Gone in 60 chase scene is so underrated and something that could never be duplicated today. That was Guerrilla film making before the term was invented.
MustangConnection1 Sad he passed making another film.
All the times I watched the real Gone in 60 Seconds in DVD, I still can't believe Eleanor actually still runs to this day, after all the hellish abuse this sole one 1973-dressed '71 Mustang suffered throughout the film, especially after hitting the light pole (I don't know how the left-front tire alignment hanged on) AND taking a nose-diving jump! That reinforcement by Toby sure saved it. I was wondering what the NASCAR-spec roll cage looked like, as there's no close interior view of it. This Ford is such a raw movie star, though the Bullitt and remake '67 "GT500" both overshadow it. Though she is not a Mach 1 most people think it is, Eleanor made me believe those models are the ultimate Mustangs. Personally, I would love a '72 CJ Mach 1. Too bad her "clean" counterpart was crushed by Toby...
Very well put! Hope you are having a great Memorial Day weekend.
@@MustangConnection1 Thank you. You too.
The Shelby in the remake isn't even authentic. I usually prefer the GT500s but Eleanor will always be a 70s Mustang.
He hit a streetlight pole off of the freeway, NOT a telephone pole.
Just trying to do our best to fill in a foggy memory from the last time I watched the movie a decade ago or so. Thanks for clarifying.
@@MustangConnection1 , no problem. I literally spent the rest of that day watching classics like this!!
Best car chase bar none.
This is even better than Bullet. That's a big thing too! Love this Rich. I got to see this car in 77 or 78 at a car show. They were also showing the movie on a screen. I forgot this till you reminded me! Thanks Rich!
cutworm59 It is a great story for sure how the movie was made, etc. Nice story too Steve, I heard they toured this car around the country to promote the movie. Cool stuff.
cutworm59 who drove it
The hand brakes lock each rear wheel independently.
+KartKing4ever Exactly, It's called a steering brake.
this is cool to know!
Nice to know Eleanor can be seen @ The Peterson! It brings back the memories and how California looked back then.
Rene Auvray Great right? Thanks for checking it out.
Actually the Mustang hit a Freeway Light standard not a telephone pole.....Most of the chase and car wreck scenes were filmed without permits and mingled with live traffic....
Yes correct, do my best sometimes from memory and it had been a good 20 years or so since I had seen the movie. Appreciate the correction. The Cadillac dealership scene was unplanned and Toby had to pay for the cars he damaged on their lot. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Mustang Mach 1 amazingly beautiful car
It's hard to know what this car is. It appears to be a 1971 fastback with a 1973 grille and front bumper. All Mach 1s are fastbacks, but not all fastbacks are Mach 1s. It does appear to have a deluxe Mach 1 interior, but if it is a Mach 1, it has had the tape stripes removed.
The car in the movie has had a lot of sheet metal and trim swapped around, but it's rumored to be a 1971 SportsRoof (fastback, not Mach 1) with a 1973 grille and bumper. It's also missing the Mach 1 hood with the NASA scoops. It just has a plain hood like a normal fastback would have. Most fastback 2+2 models wouldn't have had a deluxe interior like that, but I guess you could order them that way.
Just remember this car Halicki built from a burnt hulk. Added a new front end from the shocktowers forward. Im pretty sure this Eleanor was definitely a mach 1 originally. But the parts car he got the sheet metal and interior from was a standard 71 sportsroof.
Big Mig 100% agreed with you man.
@@scdevon It's a 1971 Ford Mustang Fadtback 2+2 with a 4 speed manual, and a 351 Winchester engine.
The Mustang looks like a 1973 in the movie, because the 1973 front grille was different than a1971. By the way I had a 1972 Mustang with the 351 Cleveland engine, that model was almost exactly as the 1971.
Really neat stuff for sure. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks for watching and commenting George!
When they re released it with the new flick they redubbed the sound track and ruined it I have a VHS of the original and saved it to DVD 2 of the songs are here on you tube !! .chariot ride hope the man don't catch me and the Lois lane blues scene from movie though .
Nothing but respect for Mr. Halicki, just unfortunate what a certain someone is doing to this great franchise.
It has become a bit of a legal tussle now every time Eleanor is mentioned with these cars more specifically the 2000 remake version.
I'd love to see Eleanor have a tent on the Hot rod power tour.
Great show and great man and car.Got to meet him and ride in the car when he came to Texas for the movie premiere. I work at a theater that showed it and met him .we talked for hours .like others said the light pole was not to be but he said he would run her till she could not run no more.
Cool stuff, yes this thing still ran when they carted it around the country smashed and all.
Carlos Santana's Smooth playing at the interview!
Pete :")
Roger that
very cool, also a real shame cause when you type in "original eleanor mustang" in youtube you get this vid and a few compilation vids from the film and all the rest are of the fake mustang from the bloody awful other film, this old girl has been mostly forgotten....I guess people are not allowed to do a youtube piece on this and get up really close to it and probe a camera all over it for some reason?...would really like to see the underside of it and I've never even seen under the hood
Al, the owner is Denise Halicki, Toby's widow, I am pretty sure it just sits in her garage. I am surprised this car didn't get more attention when the second film came out. Clearly without the original Eleanor there is no Gone in 60 remake.
Thats pretty kool collection for sure
Ya I would like to have some of that in my personal collection.
Great video man.
Appreciate it!
Even tho I really hope it get restored, but it should keep the original wrecked shape
Doubt this will ever be restored to the condition it was in at the start of the movie. This IS Eleanor in all her glory with all of those movie battle scars.
A Legend that eats lunch at 11:27 am fun fact this car still runs and drives
There should be at least one other "Eleanor" in existence. There were two (some say three) used in the film. This is the stunt car that did ALL the stunts and was modified by Toby.
The other car is the "Hero" car and was just a stock Mustang painted and equipped to match the stunt car. This car can be seen driven by Hal McLain in the film. It was probably also used in the scenes early in the film where the car is stolen from Harold Smith's house and then returned. Personally, I think there were only two cars: The Stunt & Hero car. However other folks have pointed out to me that the Harold Smith car wears California plate 613 HSO and the Hal McLain car wears 614 HSO. That could indicate there were TWO Hero cars and the one stunt car which was probably not street legal. Without Toby, we'll probably never know. Though, you can catch a glimpse of the second car in the film sitting in a row of parked cars just before Toby tags the boat on the street.
Either way, since the Hero car(s) were not damaged, they either remained in Toby's collection until his death, and then subsequently auctioned off OR it was sold off in the 1970's and may not exist any more.
@@That_AMC_Guy The second car was unfortunately crushed by Toby himself as soon as the movie was finished. He really shouldn't have done that.
Cool! Thanks!
Thanks for watching !
Now that's really cool. Thanks to Eleanor's roll cage, she survived every single stunt. I believe the other Eleanor in the original movie was used for the interior shots during the big chase
It is hard to believe they made the entire movie with one "hero" car and it survived. I know they had several other cars for exterior and interior shots too. Thanks for watching and commenting!
That jump at the end was crazy! You can see the uni-body flex when it lands on its nose. Ouch. Toby felt that one.
This video is awsome its cool to see all the old memorabilia. (Think I spelt that right lol)
Even more amazing it's available for purchase from the original estate at a fairly reasonable price!
hmmm sweet I would love to have had some of that stuff as wall art.
Good to know it was a 1971 model. Anyone knows its VIN number?
Great movie I love the Mustang definitely the car chase do anyone know is the man still living that drove the car a hell of a driver
One thing that's kinda bugged me. I've watched this and some other more recent (within last 15 years) videos and the documentary that ran on Speed channel back in 2002. So in the film, after the chase, the car still had its mirrors, taillights, parking lights were still working etc but look at it today. The mirrors are gone, the tail lights are all missing, passenger park light and the whole valance is gone and there is a lot more noticeable damage to the front end, right near the caps of the fenders. Still see the headlight buckets behind the crunched hood and facia but the grille is gone too. All that was intact at the end of the movie but its all either missing or crunched in further now. Eleanor made a brief appearance in the Junkman and that damage was also there then too. Difference now is the windshield has been replaced, looked as Toby busted out part of it to film the scene for Junkman, since there is a brief in car shot and the original bullet damage from Gone would've been obstructing. IDK, just thinking, perhaps Toby did demo's with the car at theaters or shows? Cause shes picked up some bonks since Gone
Great observations.....Well it's been 40 years plus since the movie came out and it went on a long promotional tour for the movie and then was put away in long term storage. I was just glad to see it on display after all of these years.
cool!
Thanks Dean!
Cool alright, alot people go nuts for those pedal cars.
Ron, It is crazy how much they get for those things! The ones at the show were $200 to $400. Thanks for watching!
When they re-released the movie it was cool that they took the Mustang out for a spin again showing it still ran and drove at that time. I wonder if it ever gets to run anymore?
Doubt it, it seems to have been in sitting condition for a while but you never know. It's amazing when you see it in person that it was\is actually still derivable in that shape.
And Denice was riding shotgun. Hard to believe that was nearly 19 years ago. (She was gorgeous!)
Wonder if this old girl is still on display at the Petersen, or some other automotive museum? Never been myself, but would love to come and see it in person. I hear the Petersen rotate cars through their museum from time to time.
This was part of the 50th Mustang celebration and this car was on loan from the Halicki family for this exhibit. It is not owned by the Peterson but may still be there, I would call ahead and find out. In any case they always have incredible cars on display.
Interesting. Camera mount is barely visible between the seats, but those dual independent rear handbrakes for power slides are something. Wonder what Halicki sourced them from.
***** I think he did most of this custom fab himself, quite the entrepreneur and fabricator, not to mention stunt man.
MustangConnection1 I always wondered how much of the teardown and rebuild he was involved in, vs. the rest of the staff at his shop. Probably all of it, but it's a shame that it's not better documented. All we have is that one photo of him standing in the middle of the torched unibody (with every bit of sheet metal skin removed from it) which was to become Eleanor.
MustangConnection1 Had no idea he had gotten so deeply involved in making that movie. Gotta read more on him.
TX!
Freddy Chale Very interesting read you'll find it - both the film and the man himself. Some in the know have insinuated that he really was an auto thief (and had personally stated as such), and that the film was a snide, personal snub at the authorities. Very little history out there about his family's Dunkirk towing operation either, though it's said to have been one of the biggest in NY, back in the day.
Whether true or fiction, who knows - some have said that Toby didn't mind embellishing a story. Also seems to be the type of fellow who would use shock humor. Also said that he had a talent in making friends with anyone, anywhere - which served him well in making GI60S.
well it was not a telephone pole, but it was a lamppost / street lighting but ok :)
surfarandrewboy Technically true, trying to narrate off the top of my head and shoot at the time :) Thanks for checking it out.
+MustangConnection1 At 0:35 I wish you would've shown all the info on Eleanor.
It hit a solid pole.
surfarandrewboy and also not to mention it was a 73 mach 1 not a 71
Does anyone know if she is still on display there? Or know when she will be displayed anywhere to the public?
Great question, you can call the Petersen directly and ask , I am sure thy can give you some insight.
I know it's a 71 but what trim package was it in 73?
bet it's still runs on the original engine
It ran even in that condition for years, they used it to promote the movie.
No only the Body is Original the undercarriage was rebuilt HB's wife had the car completely rebuilt but the body stays Origional!
It still does, though it's beat up, obviously.
Hollywood section ?!?! Are there other Mustangs in the Hollywood section? Ive wondered where Steve McQueens Mustang is?
ehrldawg There are rotating cars in the Hollywood section and the original Bullitt car is in private hands and has not been on display, the owner is wary of any attention.
And the stunt car used in Bullitt has just been found down in Mexico.
Steve McQueen's Mustang has been found in Mexico and brought back to the the states it has had a make over. It's still a great car I also have the oreginal film of Gone in 60 Seconds never tied of watching it.
I have the original movie on dvd the only that it don't have is the songs by Phillip Kachaturian.
The whole sound track was changed on it find a VHS copy way better !!

I'm very confused About the year the car is 71 or 73 because of what it says in the description
It is a 1971 dressed to look like a 73
According to the info panel in your video, that car is a 1971 Mustang Fastback.
Yes it is a 71
and it's painted to look like a 73 mach 1
Where is that car now? I've never saw it at the Peterson Automotive Museum when I was there.
Probably back in storage or on loan to another Museum. I believe it is still owned by the Haliki trust.
i was under the impression it was with bobby Ore and under his care , well thats what it said on the commentary of the movie i have
I’m glad the car they wrecked wasn’t a ‘67 Shelby like in the 2000 remake.
Those weren't real Shelby's in the 2000 remake. They were 67-8 fastbacks made up to look like a re-vamped version of a Shelby that was made specifically for the movie and designed by Chip Foose.
It still go and dive?
Is this still on display?
Doubtful they rotate exhibits and that was back in 2015, you would have to call the Peterson and find out.
What color is the car ?
Who owns the car now can any tell me
There is some difference in the film, the steel wheel is black, here is crome and the front glass in the film is broken, and here is sound
I am going to a model glue car and going to try to make it look like the car wrecked.
大ファンです。レプリカ欲しいです。
The 1st is the best the rest are just copys
No argument there.
It’s a fast back
Its a 1973 Mustang. 71 and 72 the front parking lights were horizontal in 73 vertical
Nope it's a 71 dressed up as a 73
And in the movie, the cops that originally call it in, call it a 73 mustang. (Hence why I called it a 73 when talking to someone else about this awesome movie!).
Do you think the original "Bullitt" mustang will ever be displayed for the public to view?
I am gonna say probably not, this seems to be one of the holy grail's of the Mustang World. Supposedly, many of the long term Mustang guys in the publishing world( Mustang Monthly) have had contact with the owner at some point. Over the years he has repeatedly denied anyone even taking a picture of the car let alone showing it. So for now it's only replica's.
MustangConnection1 What kind of guy buys the most famous and beloved Mustang of all times, and locks it away?
That's like marrying a supermodel, then making her wear a burqa. Does not compute...
Sam Moon well it's true, he just here lately started showing it off. The number two car has also been found down in Mexico and is in the process of being restored. IMO they should just display it but ....
Great movie went to see it at the movie house when it came out.
Saw he let jay leno ride in it at the ford test track and to show the anniversary edition .
Hope ploce get hime

only his name is NOT Robert,,it is H.B. "Toby" Halicki
Yep, long day at the Museum filming and did my best to remember off the top of my head at the moment.
Its not there anymore :(
Yes it was on loan.
MustangConnection1 I was so looking to see it. Do you happen to know where is it now ?
gonein60seconds.com/about-us/denice-halicki/
It was a light pole not telephone pole
Too bad you didn't get a shot of that vin, That would answer a few questions. Except, why go through the hassle and expense of making the car look like a 73 !?
Robert is a '71 for sure dressed as a '73 as the movie was self financed. Much cheaper to swap out a grill and use an older Mustang to crash up then a newer one. It was filmed in '73 and released in '74. This gave the illusion of a brand new Mustang being smashed up. It's too bad the remake didn't make any attempt to acknowledge the original Eleanor.
Your answer is in the movie dialog. For some reason they wanted it to be the last year of the popular style. They wanted to say its a 73 and they did say "its a 73" that in the movie.
ROB?
he died doing the second movie. i ve got both first and second movies.
scobra97con Yes he did, very unfortunate
They ruined it by painting all that writing on it. A simple sign next to it would have been the way to do it.
That was done back when the film came out, it was a traveling billboard for the movie. It was used as a promotional tool to help sell movie tickets as it was moved from theater location to theater location.
@@MustangConnection1 Doesn't change My opinion. Just saying.
@@briankinnard654 Understood not trying to change your opinion, just trying to fill in the logic before it was considered an iconic Mustang.

But what are the specs on the car?

Thank you.
It is actually a 73 , and they replaced the windscreen !
It's a 1971 updated with 73 grill.
@@MustangConnection1 did you know that there were 3 1973 mustangs for that movie , all , by the way , owned outright by Haliki as personal cars , in the end , they all featured in the movie , only one being wrecked , he also owned 2 of the Rolls Royce Silver Shadows in the movie just to mention a few more facts .
Pretty sure it was a 73. Check the grill. Before it was all messed up.
It was definitely a '71 dressed to look like a '73, it's well documented and the VIN is 100 percent '71.
Who drove it
H. B. "Toby" Halicki
He did all of his own stunts, also in Gone in 60 Seconds: The Junkman part 2
Would have been even better if it wasnt all lettered up
They lettered it up right after filming was over and it toured the country at various premiers.
Promotional.
I’m sure it was a 73 Mach 1
It's a '73, not a '71, and why the hell did they deface the car by writing all over it?
It's a '71 with a '73 Grill and it was used to tour the nation as a promotional tool for the Gone In 60 Seconds press junket.
its a 73
It's a 71 , the grill was changed to make it appear to be a 73.
What engine did it have? I know 71 was the last year they offered the high compression engines that required the 100 (or higher) octane Hi-Test.
It's a 1973 not a 1971
Christopher Sargent It's actually a 71 he changed the grille on to look like a 73 .
its a 71 dressed as a 73. ...Research.
Very good flick. I have to laugh when people say it's a 73'.
This is my comparison, if you take a whore from a brothel & dress her up like a nun, what is she?
A whore or a nun?
A whore who looks like she's a nun.
According to NVDMV the model year of a motor vehicle is the year on the VIN tag.
Not what grille or lights look like or any other part you change out.
Yep it is definitely a '71 dressed up to look like a '73 as you noted in your colorful analogy. I hope you are well and safe Richard. Thanks for watching and commenting.
its a 1973 not a 71
It is a '71 with '73 grille
