- PART 2: • LONGEST RUGBY TRIES 2 ...
PART 3: • Longest Rugby Tries 3 ...
It seems that the modern game is becoming more and more attack-minded and there have been lots of occasions where teams try and run the ball from their own half and even their own 22. This video highlights some of the longest rugby tries scored of all time. Hope you all enjoyed the video and let me know if I missed any clips and I can include them in part 2! Also if you have any video suggestions then let me know as I always see comments and take on suggestions.

Christian Cullen was never anything other than a pure joy to watch. My fav full-back of all time.
Had the pleasure of meeting him in Limerick a few times. Such a gentleman.
Thank for the upload.
I remember being at game in NZ against SA, SA had a runaway try up the left hand side, Cullen was on the far right level with them at the start, he expressed it and pushed the SA player over the touchline in the left hand corner. I've never been able to find a clip of it.
The Paekakariki express, GOAT.
Great stuff and so much Cullen.... the best long distancer of all time.
the paekakariki express was always a joy to watch
he's in the all time backline
That French try against New Zealand - wow, that's skill and teamwork!!!
“The try from the end of the earth” Probably the greatest try in the history of the game
funny how it was started by the current French coach and one of the passes went to the father of the current french playmaker in Ntamack ..
@@cometstyles3772 Sorry but Fabien Galthié didn't start the action. He wasn't on the field, not even a substitute.
P. Saint-Andre (11) --> Jean-Michel Gonzales (2) --> Christophe Deylaud (10) ---> Abdelatif Benazzi (6) --> Emile N'Tamack (14) --> Laurent Cabannes (7) ---> Yann Delaigue (16) --> Guy Accoceberry (9) --> Jean-Luc Sadourny (15)
Christian Cullen was amazing!
HURRICANES hurricanes
@Chris Frederick One of the true greats!
Totally agree bro. I’m a Saffa, and growing up he was one of my idols!
My fav player of all time. The All blacks coaches robbed us all of more these magic moments by playing him in the centres and wings.
Imagine how much faster he'd be if the jerseys weren't so damned floppy!
9min to remind me why as a sportman and keen football player, i still find more joy, excitement in watching some rugby tries than football goals… rugby players are all heroes. No debatable. Heroes. Period
how do people watch soccer? I just don't comprehend???
That French try against the ABs was arguably the greatest team try ever scored. The quality of passing, the angles of the runs … flawless.
My favourites though are individual tries where one man beats half a team with speed, side steps, dummies, feints and strength
That’s the beauty of the French on the counter attack it’s poetry in motion
Incredible Cullen featured in four of these remarkable tries.
Those two early 90s French tries are vintage
My favourite is the 1994 one, against blacks, in new Zealand. The way that they pass the ball, at the end, to the right, to the left, to the right, to the left , is really a nice move to see
French counter attack rugby was genuinely beautiful back in the day!
and it is again...
it was pure chaos then
it is organised and planed "chaos" now
French counter attack and french flair have come back in the last year, hope it will be for ever...
These are brilliant, thank you! Cullen...wow! Enjoyed the French flair too. Another one could be the Hougaard try that won try of the year?

PART 3: czcams.com/video/h95SLjqHGfM/video.html
No matter how many times I watch that ngwenya try against habaana i still get goosebumps
It is just glorious to watch again the magic of all past Rugby Union players that were scintillating on the field. oFF course my favourite was always going to be Christian Cullen's run from oppositions goal line to his goal line with that super chip ahead & run to score. Magic Cullen.
There has never been a player like Cullen with the running ability he had and there never will be. Only person in that video to have consecutive long distance single man timers like that, bloody legend. My childhood friends dad was his manager for years when he was playing for the hurricanes and got to play a backyard game of rugby with him & Paul Stymets at my friends wee bday party. All time favourite player 👍
First french try was the greatest of all time. This try stands for the spirit of the game and the beauty of rugby.
It is not an individual try, it is a try by a team.
Excellent but still prefer the 1973 Barbarians try - by Gareth Edwards against the all blacks. A great All Black side as well.
Against the All Blacks Sella could have finished it but passed to Blanco to complete perfection. Wonderful. P.S was at that game at Twickers when France scored after we missed a penalty kick. The whole crowd applauded because we knew we had witnessed magnificence and history.
@@philipprice171 That was actually Gu Accocebery for Jean-Luc Sadourny. Blanco was already retired.
@@abe000torte I stand corrected Damien. Blanco had indeed retired after France's last game of the World Cup 1991 when they lost to England at Parc du Princes. I was at that game and have never experienced such an electric but somehow strange atmosphere.
@@cackhanded I disagree, Barbarians try can't be compare it's more like an exhibition match ... French try from the End of the World 1994 was done at the very last minute in an official test which secure a two in a round victory over AB in Auckland where AB hadn't lost previously and never lost after ! Barbarians match are for fun and beauty, and both teams are playing this way, result is not as important than match test with Nations, especially when a tour is the ransom of the match.
What's even more amazing is that these are not even all the end to end tries Cullen scored in first class rugby.
Christian Cullen was the long range try master
That french try against the all blacks... magnificent.
nice work, but I think you're missing Carlos Spencer for the Blues v Crusaders. He started and finished it..."he's not going to pass it is he?".
There were some great sidesteps. That Asian guy had magic feet.
……Cullen. That is all.
No surprise that Christian Cullen features a few times.
Great post...Jacques Fouries try agianst England at Twickenham in 2008 could also make it on here
The second try scored was the best . Superb backing up overcame resilient tackling
Christian Cullen, best runner with the ball,,,,, of them all.
Agreed. Fuckin' inspirational that man
That Perry Baker stop and go was nasty
I love trys like this 💪💪
Cullen was some player..I remember serge blanco scoring end to end for France
Where is Barbarians v All Blacks 1973? Started by Phil Bennett, finished by Gareth Edwards. Best Try. Ever
I second that! Trouble is, it shows our age...
You can do an only Cullen video 🤣
Christian Cullen was in a few of those!!!
Beautiful rugby is beautiful
French counter attacking is great - and worrying if you are the opponents. No sign of Gareth Edwards' Barbarian try v All Blacks? Still a great team try.
Serious gas from the ref.
No Gareth Edwards Barbarian try?
Amazing !!!!!!!!
Good video 👍😁👌
This is wat makes us all love this special game
All that was missing from this compilation was Nigel Starmer-Smith's classic commentary on that Phillippe Saint-Andre try for France against England in 1991.
Thanks !
First french try was the greatest of all time
And the other in the Crunch in front of english crowd in 1991 in Twickie has a particular savour.. .even if French lsot the match. I remember the english crowd applausing the French for this inbelievable try, a true surprise, agreable one, but surprise even.
Yip im biast. Haha great vid!
I was there in HK when Cullen setup that final try.
Me too.
Nice video 👌👌👌
.
Cully the best ever but not meay people know his big bro was better great family 🐐
Christian Cullen unforgettable. and just to say that last one was hilarious.
Gareth Edward's try for the Barbarians against the All Blacks in Cardiff, 1973.
The Paekakariki express Christian Cullen what a legend
Gio Aplon
Christian Cullen
Bryan Habana
They're definitely the Top 3.
waoowww l'essai de la France à 0:32 c'est juste une oeuvre d'art.
Love the commentary "Cullen could make mince meat of him here"
beautiful
I remember one of the all blacks coaches i think it was Graham Henry once said that he wasn't worried about other teams figuring the all blacks out on video before the games, he said that even the all blacks didn't know exactly what they'd do when they got on the field so how could anyone else know.
I believe that's crucial, nz have always adapted to what's infront of them at any time yet I believe they themselves would figure alot of other teams systems out before they took the field.
I think that's why old France and now the new France are their mortal enemies, not even the French know exactly what the French will do next. Its practically art.
That Chiefs try started by McKenzie was a work of art!
No gareth edwards , but that french try v all blacks superb
You Missed the Great long range try that Carlos Spencer set up with the Blues against Canterbury where spencer purposely scored in the corner
Classic
czcams.com/video/x8btfw32h-w/video.html
Very good try's to all the team
Where's Gareth Edwards' try for the Ba-Bas?
Many great players feature once here
Serevi features twice
Nobody features three times
Christian Cullen features four times
Shit! Habana got burnt, that is rare
Include Carlos Spencer Blues try aswell
Couldn't find a shorter video but at 9:17 you can watch and enjoy! czcams.com/video/3wQX5zSbwHI/video.html
Speed kills! But great hands humiliate!
at 4:50 is just majestical indeed a full pitch attack 🔥👐
Can't believe you didn't include Gareth Edwards' try for the Baa-Baas vs the All Blacks!
@@CoolCoyote Not for this reason, but Barbarians match are a bit like exhibition match... They haven't the taste of true test or competition match.
@@jpc7118 The All Blacks tried as hard in an "exhibition " as they ever did in a "competitive" game. They did so then, they still do.
@@mikethecabbie8476 It's not true. Babaas match are always more entertaining due to the fact teams are playing almost for a great attacking style, but poorly defensively... In those match with babaas, players of both teams takes risk they would never take in a test match between nations.
@@jpc7118 Fair enough, but as a teenager I remember watching this touring bunch sweep just about everything put in front of them into oblivion; defensively you didn't take risks, because you were more concerned with keeping their score under 40.....!
@@mikethecabbie8476 No offense. and I didn't say it wasn't a pure gem as a try (It is actually), but I did cosnidere it was just not as important as others.
I love to see babaas match (british or french ones), it's always entertaining. But strategically, it's not the best (on babaas side I mean).
Where’s Denis Buckie’s try for Leinster v Toulouse in 2006, scored at the end of a stunning passage of rugby by both sides.
Christian Cullen was magnificent here…
Were’s the try of John Kirwan against Italy in the first rugby World Cup it’s one of the best individual try’s ever scored !!! Any kiwi brothers and sisters out there who were witnesses to this try ?. Give a thumbs up for our brother ❤
Cullen was the greatest fullback off all time, just scintillating!!! Also, there was no JK try against Italy in the inaugural ‘87 RWC shown?
I'll feature it in part 2!
Firstly, many thanks for assmbling and posting. A few comments. The Barret try for the ABs towards the end seems to result from a very obvious forward pass, the ball launched inside and gathered outside the 22. And how did you miss these two beauts, both of which I was fortunate enough to have seen "live" on TV?
Neither are completely from behind their own goalline, but certainly from within the 22. The first is wonderful because it was an epic fight back by Leinster when under immense pressure away to fortress Toulouse in 2006. czcams.com/video/tFuVyB0R2hU/video.html
The second considered by many to be one of the greatest tries ever, dating way back to 1973. In the comments below the vid is one from someone who was actually at the match. 48 almost 49 years ago. czcams.com/video/AwCbG4I0QyA/video.html
Enjoy!
The ref referred that pass to the TMO, and it was allowed, then voted try of the year....
Cry
😁 Barrett💪
But you missed out THAT try from Gareth Edwards (Barbarians v All Blacks).... I know it was some 50yrs ago, but it was epic!!!
I think we can add Abby Dowes try against Canada to the list 👌
Chris Hashton ✨
Cullen is the best player ever to lace up a pair of boots, also the rugby those days was brilliant compared to the watered down version you get today, yellow cards for really tame incidents ruin the game not only for the team but for the crowd who pay good money to see 15 versus 15, rugby has now turned into a watered down game of league with lineouts and scrums, also the unions import players to the detriment of local players.
4:50 ref had him
You missed That Try!!
See also the Wigan tries vs Bath in the “clash of codes” in the 1990s
Cullen...wow
4:57 Fastest referee ever.
France were an outstanding team back in the day and are probably going to set the world alight again in 2023
Let's hope it will.
The Chris Ashton try was sensational (if you're English)
The Ashton try for England against Australia should be in this list...
First clip!
3:29 anyone know who the player is (try scorer) ,an what team he play for?.
Didnt see John Kirwans solo try against Italy in there.
Not sure that it's really comparable to put 7's tries in with 15's. Very different style of game.
4;43 William Rider zooms down the pitch only the ref keeps up with him. Some ref sprint.
Kinda wanna see Kolbe do what Cullen did in the last one. I know he could do it but I just need to see it you know
William Ryder🔥
The first NFL team coach in America to exploit the power of "lateral" passing past the line of scrimmage will be hailed as a genius and having ushered in the future of their game. Or...fans there could just watch rugby union or league and see it expertly performed without a dance party breaking out between each passage of play instead.
Christian Cullen amazing, but that last ABs try against France had a ridiculously forward pass.
How many times did Christian Cullen pop up on these long range tries?? Nuff Sed …Game Over!!
Christian Cullen is amazing he’s my favourite just should see Jonah lomu
Cullen & Wilson were compromised playing with Lomu, whose ability going forward once fed the ball and pointed in the right direction was awesome. The rest of his game not so much, and several players had to cover for the less spectacular parts of his game. All coaches/selectors have their pets (including experts on sofas).
The Cullen/Wilson combination was all class.
Great video, but needs Glaws v Wasps James Bailey try
Rumour has it LD is still looking for Sinbad.😅
Good
What about gareth edwards try against the all blacks one of the greatest tries ever he ran the length of the pitch to score
Poor..... no barbarians vs nz '73. Best try of all time by Gareth Edwards from the shadow of their own posts
Gareth Edwards barbarian try vs nz?
Cullen💪
SA try by Habana started with a Saffie knock on...even I saw it.
It comes off the boot of the Australian No 8 which you can see clearly in higher res clips of that try - the Ref was right there and made the right call.
What about Matt Burke playing for the Waratahs against the All Blacks 1987 I think?
For a moment I thought the score said Italy 75:28 New Zealand. But it was the time….
