  • This video will help you decide if the IK Multimedia iRig 2 is still worth a buy at it's low price in 2020.
    Since its release, phones have lost the headphone jack.
    Does that make a difference when using this iRig 2? Watch and we'll discuss how it works, whats apps to use with it and whether it can be used on newer devices with dongles or missing headphone jacks.

      I have a subscription to Ultimate Guitar which incidentally now has branched to singing as well. When it comes to using an android device With an Irig2 or irig2hd it has quite a bit of latency and that's even using a Samsung with professional sound. However,I have used it on an I phone and was impressed with the latency disappearing.ive never had any success with the amplitude series on any cellphone or computer but I use the Tone bridge app from ultimate guitar ,and that app is free for me and I absolutely love it being able to get the tones I want without having a bunchnofnmoneybtied into effects pedals and delays etc. So I run my guitar into tonebridge on my iPhone and then atraightway from the ŵ1

    well explained, no loss of time:) i just bought this hoping it would work using the regular camera app on iphone xr, and it does. now my signal comes from a looper (headphones out), not a guitar or bass, and i'm trying to figure whats the best gain setting. seems to me the best is all the way up, while making sure the sent signal is not too strong and does not saturate...would you confirm this?

    • @DarkRoastRecording
      @DarkRoastRecording  Před 3 lety +2

      That’s awesome, and yes i would test it out, turning the gain up on the irig and lowering the input signal in the daw is usually good practice

  • @georgespringer3897
    @georgespringer3897 Před 3 lety +14

    I was looking to get one of these for my iPad Pro and band practice. I’ve been using BIAS AMP 2 and FX 2 for my practices and it works great. Only issue is that I have to lug around my only interface which is a Roland Rubix22. The product is great but the only issue is bringing it around with me back and forth between home and band.
    My question is, would the iRig do a decent job for live processing? Since I’m using an amp sim for my tone I need next to no latency. I don’t care for quality so much (besides, I’m running my other interface in to my iPad at 44.1k)
    Hope that wasn’t too long of a comment 😆
    Thanks!

    • @DarkRoastRecording
      @DarkRoastRecording  Před 3 lety +1

      No worries my man, I would say if you're going for lowest latency on an iPad, you may want to try finding the iRig HD 2 as its a USB connection instead of using the headphone jack. But really, test it out first with the irig 2 if you have it, if not go for the HD 2. I did a video demoing that as well here czcams.com/video/js-hYkJwTq8/video.html.
      That said, the irig 2 in this vid doesnt give any real latency either, on Android devices is a totally different story.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Hi, enjoyed the Video. Quick question... can you use the 1/4” out to Amp to feed a small powered speaker and will it match what you are hearing in the headphones.
    Specially if using Garage Band to practice against recorded backing tracks.
    For some reason the original headphone Jack on the original IRig will only power Headphones?
    Thanks
    John

    • @DarkRoastRecording
      @DarkRoastRecording  Před 3 lety

      That’s right. It will send the audio to anything amp or powered speaker. If you set the switch to fx, it will send what you hear headphones after being processed on the device, “thru” will send the signal before any app processing

    Could you also add a microphone to it if you want to sing along with your guitar playing? Or would you have to go back and do that later on a separate track? I’m looking for a device such as this where I can plug two microphones into it.

    • @DarkRoastRecording
      @DarkRoastRecording  Před 3 lety +1

      You could do separate tracks, but not 2 at once since this is only a single input. Ideally though you would want a USB interface with 2 channel inputs with phantom power option in case you need that depending on the mic you use. for best cheap interfaces, look for BandLab Link Digital or a Behringer UMC22

    I there. I have an iRig2 (and it still works with the AmpliTube app). I’d like to be able to use wireless headphones, but it seems that because of the latency it won’t work. Think it would work if I go wired through a mixer and connect to it via Bluetooth?

      Regarding the headphones, anytime you add a wireless device, you will be extending the latency. You could try it and see if it’s good, you might be ok, but it’s trial and error

    Is there anyway whilst being plugged into AmpliTube via IRig2 to then use another app (CZcams, Solo etc) at the same time? I.e whenever I minimise the screen on iPad it instantly cuts off the sound through Aplitube with headphones plugged in. Seems to be a major flaw of AmpliTube!

      +Michael Hillman thanks from r watching! please sub if you haven't already.
      you could do that, but your speakers would have to be powered or you would need a pre amp between the iRig and the cab to amplify the sound to the cab/speaker

    Will this work on the GarageBand app on my iPhone? I’ve been recording bass and guitar tracks by just setting my phone against the speaker of my amp. Recording one instrument at a time it sounds fine but together it sounds horrible (bass and guitar)
    Edit: I bought this device, but when I record guitars, through my headphones it sounds great, but when I listen to the recording it sounds like it’s coming from a flip phone from 2006. Any suggestions?

    I’m able to use the AmpliTube app with my iRig 2. I just get a lot of noise that I have no idea how to get rid of. Might be the new iPad UBC connection requiring a USB-C hub

    • @DarkRoastRecording
      @DarkRoastRecording  Před 2 lety

      It’s possible, if the noise present with s noise gate pedal in high? If so it may just be too loud coming into the irig, bad cable or a loud pickup. I guess just check the things you can to troubleshoot, switch cables, guitars off possible, etc.

    • @DarkRoastRecording

      I would say it’s worth it as the HD offers a cleaner sound, but depending on what you are doing with it, that may not matter. For recording it may matter, for just jamming it wouldn’t

There are many add-on you can get as well. that said, if you are using an iOS device, you will have Garageband on it, or you just need to download it for free from the App Store. if you are using an Android device, you could use Cubase or Bandlab on Android to record tracks.

    • @DarkRoastRecording
      @DarkRoastRecording  Před 4 lety +1

      +Gary Kelly hey man! it's not the usb-c causing the problem, it's that IK Multimedia changed the app to only support the iRig UA device. The app tries to pair with the iRig but can't because it's not compatible anymore. TC Helicon GO Guitar Pro is a great alternative

    • @DarkRoastRecording
      @DarkRoastRecording  Před 3 lety

      mine does not have any buzzing unless I have some pedals or amp turned on. What you could do is use Deplike app as an audio effect within GB and use the built in Noisegate pedal to take out the buzz. if that doesn't work it may be a bad headphone jack on the device itself.
