Here's how I usually track guitars (and everything else) in REAPER ✨
I go over my track structure for double tracking, special recording shortcuts, a custom action that explodes the last two takes into the next two tracks, preparing the session, loop recording and moar! - Also how I use an old keyboard as a recording tool. Pretty cool thing :)

Nice. I like the explode to stereo pair trick 👍
What a superb video. So helpful. Thanks!
Halfway through this vid I scrolled down and saw I could pick up the template so I spent basically the last of my money on it and I know it's gonna be worth it! Thank you!

Yaaay ✨thank you soo much, just so happy to know that it helped you that much!
Awesome tips, thanks!
Good idea man! Thanks!
You're a freakin' genius dude! totally getting one of those keyboards haha! That looks incredibly handy for recording, but if your recording AND filming yourself and don't want to loose focus/light position that keyboard looks soooo handy. favorite Reaper channel on CZcams!
Yesss especially if you are filming!! I remember when I used to make music videos I'd control reaper with my phone
It actually looks incredibly footy.
Awesome tips and awesome track! Reminds me of a heavy Mew sound. I'd love to hear the final track! (Oh! I see it is in the description!)
Amazing tutorial! im a beginner at reaper but i needed that so much
Picked up some really good tips in this one, thank you! Awesome song, too!

hahaha, yaaay! thank you Kaue!
Watched this video when it came out and I ended up buying an elgato stream deck pedal, combined with your other tips, it was a game changer! Thanks!
I consider myself an experienced Reaper user and yet i learned a ton from this video. Thank you !
NB : cool music too ! Reminds me of Ben Kenney's solo stuff.
That was extremely helpful , it really is a functional workflow and totally reduces the overwhelm associated with doing 2 guitars and multiple takes - unfortunately i recently moved away from Reaper to Cubase but i still believe in Reaper abilities to be more dynamic and im still learning i find it very solid to work with
Aw not unfortunate! cubase is super awesome :D - you can always have reaper somewhat integrated into one of your workflows ~
Thank you for the nice comment!!
Wow this song is fire! And great tips! Thank you!
super super appreciate the comment about the song 🥹 thank you!
Amazing tips, dude!
You got me into mood of starting recording some stuff again.

this video rly helped me, thx!
it worked for me, thanks!!
Some great indepth tipps in this video (I've been using Reaper for tracking guitars for well over 10 years and I didn't know most of these functions).
This makes me happy to hear thank youuu!
Man this channel is so underrated! Hopefully you can show us how you mix your guitars as well. Cheers!
Cool! I've been using Reaper myself for about 13 years now and I had absolutely no idea about some of the things you've showed here, so thanks a lot for all the useful info & tips. Small question: do you use any custom sounds for the metronome? Those which come by default with Reaper sound a bit annoying at times...
perfect tutorials and tips!
DUUUUDE THIS IS AMAZING! 💚💚
that first tip is already nuts. what the
(edit: the tuner one specifically omg)
All I can say is wow! You’ve definitely taken this to the next level
Aw James thank you!
The guitar track sounds very billy talent-esque. I love it!
Great video.
that was insanely helpful!!!!
ok, that's it...I'm subscribing! Your videos are so fun and relaxed and since I'm a new reaper user coming from 20years of ProTools, I'm just blown away by how efficient you work! It's just sad how many years of my life I lost colour coding tracks manually, stopping and undoing and re-recording etc..etc...and having a tuner right in the track is just awesome!!!! Well..let's just say my life just got a whole lot better now that I found your channel!!!
Your comments are the best!! thank you for being here!
Dude! i came here to know how to fix the palm-Mutting high volume that i get while recording and i got these amazing tips instead. i installed them all and it works! amazing. cant wait to record using these new tips! gracias!!
Found this video on the Reaper subreddit and it’s super helpful! Thank you!
Happy to hear!! - hope you have a great day :D
Man, I just finished recording some rhythm guitars and that shortcut saved me about 10 minutes! Thank you so much!
what shortcut ?
I really like this song!!!!
Great work with handy tips.
thank you so much Leslie! 💪
where was this 5 years ago😂😂amazing video man I can't wait to implement these shortcuts and actions
Subscribed. I've realized how much the frustration I experience with Reaper feeling unintuitive and not optimized is discouraging me from making music.
These videos are great. Sitting down with your Ebook tonight to try and set myself a better foundation.
Watch REAPER MANIA videos.
Great video, very useful
Thank you soo much!
Haha such a positive and cool way to present. Instant subscribe. Thanks man.

You are the best! Thank youuu
The "magic" that you showed us in the vid will save lives, trust me ❤️
Breaking down my guitar recording like this seems complicated, but the foot pedal control is a game changer for its ease of use 🎸🎸🎸
You are amazing!
Thanks a lots, it's awesome
Cheers to that recording shortcut! 👏🦖
Hell ye 💙💙
Cool video dude, Lots of nice workflow tips.
I especially liked your action to paste the last two takes from the bus onto the lower two tracks.
Is that what the stereo recording would be for in the Neural plugin?
I thought one would have to record each track in mono and then pan them after
Very awesome. Thank you
great video! I'm watching some of these tutorials on youtube to get a feel for Reaper before I go and install everything take the plunge into it
Ow okay!! That's awesome. Reaper is a lot of fun, but it does take some time setting up. I have a free guide on the reapertips website that should help with that tho 💙
Excellent Stuff!
Thank you soo much! 🚀
Best tips ever!
Thank you so muuuch💙💙💙
man your vid pretty help me coz im new user of reaper
Great video, very helpful and informative. Really dig your song song too, gives me Chon vibes. I would love a video of you going through a session where you write a song from scratch!
I think I may do this for the next video!! Just trying to think of how to go about recording it and presenting it. Writing a song is such a loooooooooong and all over the place process, but it's something I'd super love to show 😅 I think I have some really cool tips about it. Thanks for the motivation
@@Reapertips Look forward to it man :)
Yeah Chon so I'm not alone
Besides amazing audio editing skill, your video editing skill is super fun to watch 🤟🤟....
aww thank you! makes me happy to hear!
Wow, this video was indeed very nice. Subscribed and diggin' into your other videos asap! :)
hello Kalsten! thank youuu and welcomeeeee. super glad to have you around~
Good tips thanks
amazing. not so different from what I do, but all the little time savers add up!
That's so awesomeee. Once you enter this flow, it's soooo seamless!
@@ReapertipsI built a MIDI footswitch a while back that is perfect for this, I've been meaning to start using it for hands free recording!
Wow! My favorite SLO plugin is here. I love reaper daw, I love this plugin too. It's fantastic with single pickups
soldano best amp eveer!
mi pana, you just made my life and recording sooo much easier! thanks and subscribed
Muchísimas gracias!! 💙🇻🇪
Hey dude!! This channel rocks!!
Thank you marceloooo
Dude, theses are some great hacks to speed up the recording process. I've always liked the workflow of having a "recording" track and then my 2 actual tracks. But this record 2 takes and explode them will speed up my tracking immensely.
Yess for a lot of years I recorded into two tracks. But having this whole lane free at all times makes recording and overdubbing muuuch more seamless experience.
Bravo!
You're like a Reaper god, nice video !
thank you sooo much for being here 🙏
That's crackaball man🎸👍
Thank youuu!
Great!
genius way of doubletracking. I wish I learned it sooner!
Thank you so much! 💙💙 Happy it works for you
Marvellous, the spare keyboard trick with keycaps removed is amazing!
thank youu. so glad that you think so!
Great video. Just started learning reaper at school 1 month ago. It’s my first DAW! I have a question. How did you set up the second keyboard? Is it just plug/play and set the function keys?
This was so good, thank you Alejandro. QQ, how to get the list of FX used on the track to the side of the track like you did?
So awesome. Learned a lot on this one. I can't believe I never thought of putting a single instance of the amp sim in the folder track. Have you AB'ed this with using two separate amp sim instances per side?
Yes! At least for tracking and comping it works perfectly.
There's zero audible difference between two identical amps on two tracks vs the two going into one amp.
However, one downside of one amp is that you aren't really able to pan like 80L / 80R or have slightly different settings on each side. But I see this as more of the mixing stage kind of thing. I almost always end up switching tones in the mixing stage and I do like the slight variation in each amp, so when I want that I just move move and duplicate the amps to the tracks accordingly ~
@@Reapertips Important to add here though: Not all amp sims have the stereo function. Neural DSP does.
Great idea! Should try sustain pedal of the MIDI keyboard. Thanks!
Hi Alejandro. Thanks for all the tips, my Reaper feels great now after watching all of your videos haha.... I have a question tho.
4:25 How did u manage to get all the takes the same color as the track?
I've been trying to get my takes to be the same color as the TCP with actions (with no luck yet) but they get assigned random colors after I finish my takes.
To be clear, I want the takes to get assigned the same color as the track automatically when recording (like you). Please Help
Beautiful, missed your vids. A lot of useful shortcuts in this video!
How do you record your guitars with no latency? Any settings in Reaper that can help with this?
Naveed!! So glad to see you here :D
For tracking, the best thing to do is to set the block size as low as possible.
Go to Preferences > Audio > Device > Request Block Size and type 128. If your computer is struggling, you can try 256 is also fine.
Now, some plugins in your session or track may be introducing latency. For example if you have a limiter in your master or guitar tracks, these usually introduce latency.
To spot it, you can see in the track manager a column for "PDC", if you see a number there that means a plugin is introducing delay in the session.
@@Reapertips Didn't know the PDC trick! You are true wizard
really thanks
Hi, Your videos were truly enjoyable to watch and I gained a great deal of knowledge from them. For some reason, the first two X-Raym actions that you have you have mentioned to form the custom command to explode the takes to the next two tracks don't show up! although having the repository installed. Do I need to be installing them from a separate repository? please help!
Hello! thank you so muuch. Did you make sure you have Reapack installed with the X-Raym Repository installed as well?
Someone likes CHON... Great video man!
Could you please do a video of taking a guitar part you want to make a song, recording a demo, and putting a drum track to it for recording good tracks? Thanks!!
jesus dude! liked and subbed
hohoo - thank you so much!!
I ordered a usb foot pedal after watching this. I'm wondering if you have any new tips/tricks for this method in reaper 7 with the track lanes and such. Looking forward to an update on this video if it's on your list.
Reaper shortcuts god ❤
Great video mate!
Did you customized space behaviour during recording so that it's not prompting you for save and also automatically gets rid of last unfinished take? Or is it some setting?
🥲Yeess rewatching now and realized some things I forgot to add:
• If you are doing the loop recording method, I recommend to enable this setting in Preferences → Loop Recording → Discard incomplete first or last take. This way it will discard all the takes that are not at least 90% completed.
• When doing loop recording, you may see the takes in "lane view". You can press Ctrl/cmd + L to change it to the same single lane view I have.
@@Reapertips oh my gosh, thanks a lot you saved me a huge amount of time! I guess I just have to subscribe now haha 😆
@@Reapertips " If you are doing the loop recording method, I recommend to enable this setting in Preferences → Loop Recording → Discard incomplete first or last take. This way it will discard all the takes that are not at least 90% completed. "
That's great ! Thanks !
Perfectly timed video for me! Liked and Subbed 🤘 what theme is this? Looks perfect for me
Thank you for the sub!! :D I put the theme I use in the description 💪
