    I'm on vacation. I definitely want housekeeping. I enjoy the luxury of returning to a clean room with fresh linens after a long day in the parks. Although we are a relatively tidy family, I tip for the service because housekeeping works so hard.

      Yes, it is a nice perk that a lot of people really enjoy.

    I think opting out of housekeeping is for people who bring their own toiletries, reuse towels, or bring their own, and don't generate a lot of trash. You just didn't need them to make your bed.

  • @christines3638
    @christines3638 Před 6 lety +11

    The trash and dirty towels everywhere is a real turn off. I cant believe that any person in housekeeping at any resort would not address a mess.

  • @thomasfitzgerald8172
    @thomasfitzgerald8172 Před 6 lety +21

    You said the trash and towels were outside for two days! How many employees walked pass them and didn't do anything about it? That is a bigger issue! Yes they need to re define the program with all cast members.

    • @watchinvidzwatchinvidz7691
      @watchinvidzwatchinvidz7691 Před 5 lety +1

      Yeah the cast members are being super lazy and non caring... Not what Disney is about. Gross too. Trash and filth no wonder people got measles at Disneyland.

  •  Před 6 lety +6

    I agree with you about the Training. We have NEVER been asked if we wanna Opt out of Housekeeping in all my Trips to Disney.

  • @flacaxo92
    @flacaxo92 Před 6 lety +4

    We went to Disney the middle of May and the cast member at our resort told us all about opting out of housekeeping and let us know all about the service and how it works . It was awesome, we just never used our gift card we forgot lol so we will save it for our next trip .
    They should have big buckets sent outside to throw trash and another one for towels I noticed a lot of towels and trash too outside of the rooms that’s where your suppose to put it but they can do better .

  • @justinsmith4409
    @justinsmith4409 Před 6 lety +10

    I feel like you opted out of mousekeeping but needed it. The trash is one thing but replacing towels and such is housekeeping. You got your cake and ate it too, so props to you!

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  Před 6 lety +2

      It's their policy that you can opt out of housekeeping but still receive towels, trash service and things you need on request. I just followed along with the program they created.

      if you opt out of mousekeeping, eventually you will find Mickey and Minnie under your bed, along with their kiddoes. I prefer mousekeeping to keep Mickey and Minnie where they belong, in the park, and not under my bed.

  • @FizzyPink76
    @FizzyPink76 Před 5 lety +1

    We opted out too, and were over the moon with the gift card. I took antibac wipes from home, but I always do and I had washing up liquid from the previous hotel and we grabbed some cleaning cloths from the dollar store as I like to clean my resort mug properly every day. I used all this to wipe round the bathroom and sink in the room, which is not a hard ship. With trash I would either just pop it in the maids cart if we saw them or put it in a bin as we passed, why would you leave it lying around for vermin, insects and in the hot heat outside your door? When we needed fresh towels, again if we saw a maids cart we asked or just took them and put the dirty ones in the bins by the swimming pools or again gave them to the maid. I cant believe people are so lazy just to leave things outside the door, or not use common sense, even if I were told, I would still pick up after myself if trash were laying outside my door for 2 days. If you are not paying for the maid and not tipping by leaving them outside the door someone still is having to clean up after you. The mind boggles

  • @trulymadly9562
    @trulymadly9562 Před 6 lety +2

      @aplacetonest  Před 6 lety +3

      I'm so glad you liked it. I love making Disney videos for you guys and for now, I only have 2 more left. We didn't get the dining plan again this year and it really is proving to be the best option for us. For the last 3 years now that we've gone without the dining plan, we've spent around $1000-$1100 out-of-pocket versus over $2,000 if we were to pay for the dining plan. Every family is different but for how we eat, it works best to not have the dining plan.

    I was intrigued at first about no housekeeping and having more money to blow, but then I thought how nice it is to come back after a wary day at the park and have a pretty bed with a mouse towel on the bed and a clean room, and not see piles of trash and dirty clothes outside my room. What an eyesore. I would have done split days, but it doesn’t seem we can do that, so maybe I’ll just keep with the housekeeping.

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  Před 5 lety

      Yes, a lot of people love coming back to a cleaned room. Yes, split days would be a nice option but maybe they'll offer it at some point in the future.

  • @juliecastillo914

    I love this option. And not only are you saving $10 a day getting that gift card but you're saving what you would have tipped the housekeepers. For my family that's $10 a day. So total $20 a day!

    Thanks for this video Becky! There can never be too many Disney videos from you lol! It was interesting to listen to your thoughts and experience on this. When we went in December last year we were actually asked if we wanted to opt out of housekeeping. I did anticipate it. We save so much for our holiday we didn't feel we needed a gift card, which I know sounds crazy, can never have enough spending money. At the time my husband and I just felt we would prefer having our bed made for us everyday. In retrospect I probably would do it next time. It is only the 2 of us and we are certainly not messy or have a lot of rubbish etc, we always reuse the same towels for as long as possible, so we probably don't really need it. We leave the resort for parks early every morning and come back late every night, literally crash on the bed. It might be worth considering for us next time.

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  Před 6 lety +2

      It's a really great idea, isn't it? Especially since Disney is going to start charging resort guests to park each night, it will help offset the cost of that.

  • @hillaryellis5007
    @hillaryellis5007 Před 6 lety +2

    We stayed at pop century the first week of May. We were asked at the front desk and we opted out of mousekeeping. We left our trash and towels outside the door and it was usually picked up within 30 minutes to an hour. However when we would call for fresh towels or trash bags or anything, it took quite while. So it seems our experience was kinda opposite. I agree that there does need to be some major training across the board so all the resorts are consistent.

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  Před 6 lety +5

      I don’t care about housekeeping when it comes to making my bed, vacuuming and things like that. All I need them for is clean towels and trash. It’s Disney’s housekeeping option and policy and they are saving money on staffing by not having to have every room cleaned each day. Our family’s needs were very minimal and certainly something that we were entitled to considering how much we pay to stay at their resort. I’m not trying to work the system in any way other than how Disney intends it.

    We just return from Coronado Springs Disney on June 3rd; we were asked about skipping mousekeeping, We agreed. We usually don’t use house keeping often anyway so this was a bonus for us. We were told to call if we needed things and someone came in everyday to empty the trash. However, no one picked up the towels we left in the shower. Not sure why but they didn’t, even after we asked for more towels. In all fairness, we did not ask them to take the towels but they were piled up in the shower.

    I have a question about this policy. Can someone opt to only get "mousekeeping" for part of their stay, and get gift cards for the days they don't want/need it? So, for example, if I'm staying seven nights, can I opt to only have housekeeping twice and receive a gift card for the other days?

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  Před 6 lety +2

      If your split stay has 2 separate reservation numbers, then I would assume you could opt out for one of the stays and not the other but you would probably want to ask, just to make sure.

  • @supersavingswithjennifer2036

    I opt out bc I have paid for housekeeping in the past and we could be gone all day and the room hasn’t been touched. It’s like they come at 6 in the morning and if you aren’t up and about it’s like you missed out for the day and when you call they are like “we were there earlier”.

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  Před 5 lety

      They do get there way earlier than we are usually up and out of the room. lol When we used to get housekeeping and that happened, I would call the front desk and tell them that we were leaving for the day and could housekeeping would back. I believe that the reason they don't tell everyone about opting out of housekeeping is because everyone will do it just to get the money back, hen call everyday for things. I personally wouldn't opt out, because I like them coming and cleaning everyday, that's what I'm also paying for at the time I am staying. I agree with the communication issue you stated with laundry and the trash. They should agree and make sure that everyone on the cast knows what to do with it.

  • @michellehawkins1027
    @michellehawkins1027 Před 5 lety

    I usually ask for housekeeping not to bother me at any hotel because of high anxiety and social issues and do not want them knocking on my door once I'm changed or showering or whatever. Usually look for a garbage can in the hall if not one then leave tied in a bag in the hall for pick up, this is actually not that uncommon.As far as what to do a simple call to the front desk would work.

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  Před 5 lety +1

      Now, because of safety laws, housekeeping is allowed to go in your room once a day, even if you opt out of housekeeping, so that's something to keep in mind. They will always knock first though. Like you, we weren't much for having housekeeping come every day anyway so opting out of housekeeping works well for us.

      They aren't considering it housekeeping since they are only brining you things on request. They save tons of money and staffing hours by only sending people up when you need something. We always take our showers at night so not having the sheets changed wasn't a big deal for us. Maybe it's something you might want to try out the next time you go. :)

    This sounds more like complaining on camera. Did you tell the hotel any of this. I like the gift card idea.

    Cannot opt out at Disney Yacht Club...it’s included in the price and services...just leave your sign up on the door handle if you don’t want them in anyways

      That's good to know. The Disney rep told me every resort was participating but maybe she forgot about Yacht Club.

      A Place to Nest thanks Becky! It was a little extra perk bummer, but my family and I have received so much extra magic here that I didn’t even notice! Lol

    I guess I’m confused...you opted out of housekeeping...but you continued to call and have them bring you everything? So you got paid $80 to not have housekeeping regularly, but still got housekeeping services (getting trash, dirty towels, etc)? I hope you tipped them. 😢

    I tried to opt out of mousekeeping in early May at Saratoga Springs and their front desk person told me they don't allow it at their resort. She didn't sound convincing but she said no to my request. I guess it depends on the resort and/or the cast member.

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  Před 6 lety

      I’m not sure if that’s correct. I was told every resort is participating so maybe next time you might want to double check with a supervisor

      Since Saratoga is strictly DVC, i imagine they handle it differently.

    • @sfs825
      @sfs825 Před 5 lety

      Saratoga is not strictly DVC. Non DVC members can book, there. I have stayed there several times, and I have to say, they have the worst customer service of any Disney Resort. Cast members are always rude and misinformed. Not very Disney like at all!

    I'd rather just let mousekeeping come in and clean my room and take out the dirty laundry and trash. Then I wouldn't feel bad asking them to take out my trash and haul out my dirty towels. And I love coming back to a clean room! The mousekeeping on Disney Cruise Line is ah-mazing!!❤

    I’ll bet this is a test , if enough people op out, Disney will start charging everyone extra for maid service. You already pay more for the room than it’s worth now. Watch you will see
