    For smaller pesky air bubbles, it helps to take a very fine needle and puncture them ever so slightly so that you can push out the air with a spatula afterwards. Once they are all out, a sealant to top it off (such as Dee suggested below) prevents anything from penetrating back into that pinhole. :) This looks like a fun project! Thank you for sharing!

    THANK YOU for mentioning caulking! I see so many contact paper countertops where no caulking is used and all I can think about is how much water must get under them. SUCH a good, cheap tip. Extra important around areas that get wet often, like the sink.

    • @josettesantana5169
      @josettesantana5169 Před 10 měsíci

      Actually I didn mine without caulking and it never took in water or lifted either. If you take your time and let it stick appropriately with enough heat the adhesive holds so well that water isn’t an issue.

    It’s so funny that this popped up this morning! I am working on helping my parents upgrade their kitchen at their office building and the counter top is...... less than desirable.... especially after we got new floors and painted the kitchen. I had sent my mom links to contact paper for the counter and we were talking about doing it in the spring when the weather is better and I paint the cabinets. Now I have a lot more information from you and something more to show her. Thank you!

    Have you ever heard of spraying the surface with soapy water before sticking the paper? We did that when replacing the camera paper tops on boat dashboards. It allowed me to move the paper and squeegee out bubbles easily. I don't know if the paper used in the video may be too thin.

    Thanks for a great video. The previous owner of my home tried to do a DYI marble look counter top using paint, and it's terrible! I want a live edge wood countertop, but don't have the $$ for that right now. So I'm considering doing this vinyl as a temporary measure until I can save for my wood slab counter. This definitely was more encouragement for me! Thank you.

    Hi new subscriber I like yr video..
    I would suggest when you do caulking if you want it to be even put painters tape around the sink on the sink and counter top and just leave an opening where you want the caulking to go.. then once you're done caulking just pull the tape up and you have a straight line with out trying to do it with your fingers

    I have already done three of my smaller countertops. Since they were on both sides of the stove, (heat) I first applied schmears of gorilla glue mainly near the edges and seams. I also lightly sanded and applied Polyurethane (rolled and tipped with a foam brush to remove any roller bubbles) all over the top...four times! Roughed up with 220 between coats. The finished surface is like glass...I am now preparing to do the long buffet counter (90") that separates my kitchen from the dining room. Patience and easy does it!! Love the blow dryer suggestion.

I'm thinking of using this application for my horrendously unappealing granite laminate in my second bathroom. Nobody ever sees this bathroom but my husband and me, so I haven't done much with it. I have found using a hand held clothes steamer and a microfiber cloth. It works amazing for wrinkles and bubbles. Just be careful not to burn yourself. Use the steamer over the area first, pull the steamer away, then wipe the spot with the cloth and push the air to an edge to release it.

    This brand is very durable! I paint on top of it everyday in my studio. I used this brand but in a bamboo wood style to cover a folding table that I converted into a drawing table for my art studio. I didn’t do the folding method on the sides. Instead, I measured it to fit perfectly, laid it down, and then finished the edges with small white tiles and grey grout-yep! I took it that far lol. Then, I wrapped silver yarn very tightly around the legs to elevate the look, and placed a wire basket with some extra brushes, paint, and some faux greenery underneath the table on each side. You would never know this wasn’t an expensive piece of furniture. I highly recommend the contact paper!

    I LOVE IT! I installed faux granite contact paper on my kitchen counters. NO ONE CAN BELIEVE it is fake! That was probably 2 years ago. It is looking a bit "used" in some spaces. I use essential oils and when the oil gets on the "paper" it has "removed" the design in those spots. So, yeah. But I got the paper on a HUGE clearance sale for $5 bucks a roll and bought the two rolls that were on this sale. It has been a REAL blessing. My actual counters are an avocado green color that I have despised for 8 years. So now, 10 years later since I began renting this home, it is time to try MARBLE! teehee! I am going to be ordering some of this paper you have shared! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • @Cherishedprints-stationery

    Seriously thinking of doing this to my kitchen. My countertops are almost 20 years old. The previous owner burned the laminate and now we have additional stains from 11 years of use. Also, I do tired of the yellowy beige color. This might be able to hold me over until we can afford to remodel our kitchen as you said in the video.

  • @DiannMMorales
    @DiannMMorales Před 3 lety

    I did this on the countertops in the first house my husband and I bought. In 1974! The counters were ugly and it made a huge difference. I don't think any of the thicker ones were available back then. Recently, I bought a high boy dresser to paint black and discovered the drawer fronts were plastic. No matter what I did, the drawer fronts looked bad. I got a thicker black woodgrain one to cover and the difference in how it looks is amazing! Now, it looks pretty classy!
    BTW, great tutorial! You covered everything I learned in the process. The blow dryer works great. My drawer fronts have a curved bow front and using the blow dryer to make it stretch a little over the drawer top and bottom kept me from having creases and folds. Patience while doing it is very helpful as you have to do a little at a time.

    If I had to use contact paper I would. Contact paper has come a long way, I believe it's a great alternative. You did a great job installing yours

    I found this video after I bought marble looking contact paper and needed to know exactly how to apply it. To my surprise, I bought the same brand you recommended! How convenient? 😆😃

    Hi I've been installing contact paper for well over 25 years in my own rentals when I was younger we moved around not a lot but more than we want it but I was looking for a place to call home sadly I couldn't find it until now.
    Over the years I became excellent and installing contact paper and Border paper and for the first time ever I watch your episode with the blow dryer and that was like oh my god I've never thought of that it was like riding a bike for the first time!! Exciting!!!!.
    I enjoy your videos thank you for all the tips keep them coming you're very helpful and I share these videos with my friends and daughters.

      @@thediymommy What brand of latex caulking did you use? I used silicone caulking and it lifted over time due to water exposure.

    It is a nice budget solution but I wouldn't tempt it on my large breakfast bar. I'm fussy to perfection, plus mine has 5 angles and has another angle between top and side edges. Besides, I use mine for my worktop and I can imagine glue, paint, and whatever could possibly make indentations. I'd have hives 😔. You do a great application and it does look nice on the other hand, Christina! 🙌

    This would be a great way for a small independent store to update fittings too! Lots of retail fittings and displays can look very dated, but also very expensive to replace. This could work in the interim. X
