  • When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Western allies held strict red lines around the type of aid they’d provide. But as the war shifted, so did the type of aid.
The Wall Street Journal examines the policy u-turns of Ukraine’s allies to illustrate how the war has progressed over the last year.

Ukraine aid donations are using BS accounting. For example, many countries are using the replacement cost of the sent hardware as the value of their aid. This is like me gifting my 10-year-old truck to my son, buying myself a brand new truck, and then declaring that I gifted a truck valued at my new purchase.

That's 100% correct. For example, the US is sending 50 Bradley fighting vehicles that were bought 30 years ago and were about to be decommissioned. They cost roughly 4 million each BACK THEN. But the media outlets are portraying it like "We're sending 120 million in Bradley IFV's!" When in reality, we're just giving old stuff we had lying around.

@@atg2186 Inflation applies to NEW goods/services, not OLD ones. You've also ignored depreciation...
Stockpiles of old military equipment and ammunition don't become more expensive over time, they become cheaper, until eventually they're so out of date that they're almost worthless. Sending these should be a priority, but in some cases they will need replacing with modern equivalents.
Also, bear in mind that most of the weaponry sent so far was originally intended to be used in a defensive war against Russia, so it's actually being used for its intended purpose...

We are absolutely spending a ton of money to send armarments, but we are paying US Manafuacturers for this armaments that we are sending. Most of the money is going to weapons/defense contractors in the US/EU, construction companies in UKR, Hospitals/doctors/rehab and front line triage, and non-profits that deliver cars/trucks/medical supplies to Ukraine's civilians and troops. I'm sure in that long list I even missed something...Oh Satellite companies, and Internet sec too.

Ukraine produces multiple kinds of their own, smaller drones but not at sufficient scale. Also lots and lots of Dji/Autel consumer drones are imported by volunteers and used for recon, targeting artillery or to drop small munitions(which are too weak to cause noticeable damage to armored vehicles though).

So why does every mini doc like this never mention any of those facts, always concentrating on what the US and Germany give?

The A-10 is only seen in such a positive light, cause it literally only fought against a bunch of people in caves with AK-47s. Molly tries to convince him to cut his losses after he starts tilting, but he insists on recouping his winnings" Putler is like that player. Ukraine lost thousands of tanks and IFVs. 200 more won't change anything. Zelenskyy strategy is reduced to rounding up civilians often at gunpoint and throwing them into a meat grinder. It's obvious that these hapless and desperate people can even turn their guns against Zelenskyy instead of dying for him. Anyway you can't rely on them to hold the front that is in a very precarious state almost everywhere. The war is lost by Ukraine. It's obvious for any unbiased observer. Unconditional surrender is the only way out for Ukraine. Hitler's Germany also refused to admit defeat until Hitler killed himself. Then Keitel signed unconditional surrender.
