Big 4 or Mid-Size firm for Articleship | Importance of Industrial Training for CA Students

- This video contains an overall analysis of the biggest doubt of the students who have cleared their Intermediate and are about to begin their articleship. I have tried to cover my viewpoints on why I chose a mid size firm over a Big 4 despite getting a rank in my intermediate exams.
Also, I have tried to highlight the importance of Industrial Training and who should ideally pursue Industrial Training. I hope this would clear all your major doubts regarding articleship and industrial training.

Since I am an article at one of the big 4's, I believe I am eligible to share my experience with you all.
In my view, a CA student must watch out for a very good mediocre firm in terms of diversity and quality of work and find out what is his / her interest area. The only disadvantage one might face is of not able to get quick placement offers after qualifying, but believe me you have got a job you are interested in and you can always excel and be at par after few years.
The only benefit I believe big 4 tags will help you is quick job placement for a few years after qualifying and a good package. The satisfaction of doing what you love might not be available. You will always think about other fields.
At the end of the day money isn't everything, happiness is!

Agreed to some extent...bcoz first of all it is very difficult to find such a mid size firm which will give every work and that also of good quality...
Many good mid size firms nowadays also have specific departments only...going to a firm of any size smaller than that will result in shit quality of work.
So such a kind of balance of getting everything with good quality is almost impossible to find.
At least with Big 4 we are assured of Quality of the highest level and a Global brand
@Rakesh Kumar Sahu If the pay matters you should definitely go for big 4s. But at the same time you must try for other big firms as well like GT, BDO. Even they give quite a decent stipend. Coming to the stipend, it is 15k, 20k, and 25k in the first , second and third year respectively in EY and KPMG. In Deloitte and PWC it is 10k, 15k and 20k.

I agree with you on this. At articleship stage the focus should be on building a strong foundation. I believe in big 4s everything is so departmentalized that after a period of 1-2 years, even if you do become an expert, you become an expert only in one sector or department. For articleship its better to first make a good knowledge data base and learn from various departments, which is possible with a mid size firm. Then one can always specialize in the interested field post qualification.

Hey, Dev! Don't take me otherwise but it would be better if you draft your own strategy as other's strategy might not suit you and you can't risk the same. When i failed my last attempt i tried to reach out to my friends who passed to know their strategy and i tried to follow those but at the end of the day, it didn't suit me well. So, from personal experience i am telling you, don't waste your time.

you said - securing rank in ca final and pursuing articleship from midsized firm is much better than not securing rank and industrial training, but i watched interview of shailly chodhry she said she got AIR 1 IN ca final, but she clear her ipcc in 8 attempts, so she did not get opportunity in big 4 after clearing ca even she secured rank, so i think rank does not matter much more..what would you say about it?

I wanted to ask that should I ask the interviewer in the Mid Size firm whether they'd allow me for an industrial training or not because I have heard that firms other than Big 4s don't tend to allow industrial training.
Bro I have passed my 1st group in Nov 20 now I want to join article ship whether it is better for going and joining a small firm in our local town Tirupati 6 months after completion of my may 21 attempt for 2nd GRP and then take termination and then go to big firm orelse register for articles in that small firm from feb21 to may21 and then take immediate termination and move to big firms in Chennai, Bangalore . @@sanyamgrover4706 dude, go for it!! Though I'll suggest some other college like dcac, they don't have attendance issue there. You can do your articleship side by side. Also in your first year if college, while you'll be preparing for ca foundation/ inter go for some good internship through college placement cell. That will provide you with an edge.

Hi
Opt for regular college which is flexible on attendance criteria. Distance learning or corrospondance degrees are not recognised by many colleges. Just in case u want to study further after CA or any other professional courses, or if for some unfortunate reasons u could not complete ur CA, then corrospondance course can limit ur chances of getting in PG programs of reputed colleges.
Of course unless you have done graduation from a reputed college, u won't have any value addition in terms of knowledge as far as regular college is concerned. But keeping eligiblity requirements in mind, u should not opt for open learning. Eg. Narsee Monji doesn't take candidates with distance learning degrees for its MBA program.

Top 20 firms are not considered "mid-size"

Absolutely yes! The bcom degree has nothing to do with your articleship. They don't even bother if you are graduate or not.
Now I understood why CA final takes many attempts. I think ICAI should change it. The Articleship should be after CA FINAL..👍
Does attempts matter in articleship in BDO or GT ( example 3-4 attempts)?
It depends. Some of my friends' friends got selected in BDO hyderabad and GT Hyderabad even after having 5-6 attempts in ca ipcc. Give it a try. Your resume may got shortlisted. But, your selection depends on how you prove your worth in the interview.
