Great video! I largely agree with the points made. It's interesting how many people assume it's delicate without actually stress testing it. Personally, I've extensively tested its stability, including dropping it from over 150cm on my tripod with the screen rotated, and it remained unscathed. Even when pushing the screen in all directions, I was surprised by its resilience; there were no cracking noises or damage. Despite its seemingly fragile appearance, my tests have proven it to be remarkably solid. Additionally, the gimbal functioned perfectly after the fall, showing no signs of damage. Breaking the Osmo Pocket 3 requires significant force or extreme carelessness. Keep going mate!
Great observations Vic! One thing is you can actually shoot 4k vertical videos, not the simplest of method but also not the worst. if you slowly turn the gimbal until you are holding your osmo pocket 3 horizontally the gimbal would recentres and you will actually be shooting 4k vertical videos. The downside is you will be holding it horizontally which can get uncomfortable but then again if you are shooting for social media, it probably wont be a very long video anyway.
Hey Vince, yeah. Fair point. It’s a bit awkward though (tried it last night) and the framing seems to drift quite a bit. It works for sure but I wouldn’t be a fan after trying it
@@VicBarry yah. I agree. But could be just a matter of getting used to which I’m not used to yet lol. While not a deal breaker for me at least the option is there if I need it. However I think most social media only support 1080p for shorts anyway so the 3k or 1080p mode should be sufficient for most situations unless you need a 4k vertical clip to be stitched into another 4k video I guess.
I agree with some of your points. Definitely need a longer exposure speed than 1 second. That is woeful. Even the Osmo 2 had 3 seconds! (or was it 2?) Also agree about having the zebras on the screen, that would really help. However, some other points I'm not sure I agree with. The pop up messages can be immediately removed by just swiping them, you don't have to wait for it to disappear on it's own :-) Secondly, if you want vertical 4k, just turn the device on it's side and it will record in 4k, rather than turning the screen for 3k. Finally, waterproofing. While I agree it's a shame it's not waterproof, Sunnylife are now making loads of cool attachments for the osmo 3, one being a rain protector, as well as loads of other cool stuff (including much cheaper ND/PL Filters) I do Hope DJI update some of the firmware for the things you mention though and they're usually pretty good with feedback. Hey 👋 Fair points. Yeah the 4k vertical workaround works 😀 but kinda defeats the purpose of the device for vertical video, but yep. It works.

@@VicBarry yeah, completely defeats the purpose but I guess it's a workaround 🙂 I don't know if you have a DJI drone but the plastic cover that sits over the gimbal when the drone is in storage, the little bit that clips onto the drone to keep it in place, is the perfect size to push the SD card in and out. Again, not ideal but may save using a knife 🤣
For the SD card, once it's in, if you push it further in, it will come out.
I like your reviews. But vertical video is the Devil's work. And I do love my new Pocket 3 which combines well with an Action 4 for Northern European Spring days.

Great video, loved the funny segments! Luckily for me, most of the issues you describe here don't even apply....I never shoot vertical video, I don't care about those little confirmation messages, shutter speed, the lack of waterproofing, etc. But this was very informative!

Will the firmware soon include 25 second shutter speed, and Prores Raw. Will the firmwares soon for pocket3 and for Mic2 transmitter accommodate wired headset for zero latency monitoring?
What I really miss is an exposure compensation wheel, so I don't have to go on a touch screen adventure to quickly make changes to the scene.

Spot on Vic! All those issues can be fixed with firmware. In regards of delicate hardware, well, the draw of the luck unfortunately!
My biggest gripe is the stupid cover, case what ever you wanna call it. it's not secure, ti falls off on short walks, already lost my wide lens. first time out of the house using it.....

Hihi, i was about to purchase the Pocket3 and was also wondering about the 1" long exposure limit. I recently bought the Action4, but realised that in long exposures, there are plenty of hot pixels. DJI refused to admit the issue and change a new set for me, but i've tested 3 sets with hot pixel problems during long exposure. Perhaps their proc amps got issues processing long exposures. I wont be surprised that they might cut the down the exposure timing of the Action 4 eventually too. Awaiting for more Action4 users to confirm if their sets have hot pixel issues too.
Great video! After a couple of months I've developed work-arounds for about half of what you mentioned. Not always ideal, but it gets me through. Here's my #1 wish. I often use my Pocket 3 as webcam and it does a great job at that. My biggest wish is that when using it that way you could use the Mimo phone app to make adjustments to the camera while in webcam mode. It seem to be an either/or thing as far as I can tell. Would be really nice if you could tweak the position of the camera with your phone while you were streaming. If anyone has any ideas then I'm all ears.
Good stuff Terry. I can’t see that happening to be honest because webcam modes on cameras is basically a bonus feature that gets very little advancement once it’s there. But ya never know. Thanks for watching 🙏
@@VicBarry Agreed...but you never know. Look what Cannon did with their EOS app which lets you use some of their DSLRs as webcams via an HDMI cable and a software patch. That's what I was doing before but I was using an old T2i - which wasn't even on the list of supported cameras. I tweaked on it a bit and got it to work but it was always kinda unstable and jenky. Thanks again for the great video and for the comment. You know I'll be back!
Just wish it could do a longer exposure. It's the one little thing that's stopping me replacing my shaky old ZV1 with it as I occasionally like to take the odd astro shot.
so glad you talked me out of one, Vic, good pointers as you learn, the best camera is the one you have, how is the Ergonomics on it never talked about that. keep the head held high on it. So happy with my Sony ZV1M2, maybe I'll up to the ZVE1 then the Pocket 3.put the 1000.00 I spend on the OP3 to Sony

Great thoughts on this. Got mine 2 days ago and this thing is FRAGILE. I got it on a flash deal on Amazon and now it has to go back because gimbal protection mode is like blue screen of death and I don't even know what happened treated it so carefully. Tech cannot fix it and it's out of stock in Canada until April.. womp.

I find that trying to get the SD card out of my Go Pro 10 and Insta360 X 3, is just as annoying as the Pocket 3, in the same way. I wish these little cameras could use regular size SD cards. One time my finger nail slipped (trying to get an SD card out of the Insta360 X3), and it sprung out several feet into the air, and I thought I'd lost the damned thing for good! Luckily I managed to find it!

Very insightful video, with lots of points I hadn't considered. Though, for many, I guess they *could* have done them, but will always hold something back for the NEXT model. Otherwise, no one would ever upgrade! 😋
But, another question to aid with my anti-ignorance quest. Your first point was about how wide the 20m focal length is (presumably even wider with the wide angle?), saying that it would be cool if they introduced changeable heads (or more lenses...?) to offer 35mm or 50mm. But, and I realise this is probably obviously but i can't wrap my head around it) if shooting with the Pocket 3 (or any 20mm lens) couldn't you just move closer to the subject to make it tighter, or crop in post, or zoom? i know I'm missing something very simple here, as to why moving closer/cropping/zooming wouldn't make a 20mm image look like it was filmed with a 35 or 85 (otherwise people would only ever buy 20mm) but I can't for the life of me put my figure on it!

Yeah you could move “closer” to the subject but it’s still 20mm. In its simplest form, different focal lengths say 50mm compress the background and the subject so they appear closer together. Basically, again in its simplest form, it’s a look
