another tip for family gameplay: when my sim has a toddler the trait is completely random. when they become a child i randomize the trait until it reflects one of the traits of the parents (so a potential of 6 different traits or less depending on if the parents have adult-specific traits). when they become a teen i randomize the trait until they have a trait that is *not* shared with either parent, because this is an age where a lot of people branch off and try to figure themselves out. then when they become an adult i randomize for either a new trait or a shared trait with the parents depending on how close they were. i think this makes the game a little more realistic but also makes it more interesting because you're forced to work with randomized traits

I've always played rotationally and never get bored. I play with my seasons on 14days and play each household for a season. I've set my worlds up with unique features and if my sims want to visit, they have to go on vacation to that world. Sometimes they love the world so much they pack up and move. I try to think like my sims and often let sentiments or their emotions guide my decisions. Even the random phone calls I work into their stories - sometimes they end up being friends with sims I would never have thought of. When the pop-ups happen in game- the ones that tell you the outcome of your choice, I roll a die. My sim gets fired sometimes, or loses job performance. I really try not to focus too much on achievements - like promotions, grades and skills, unless I think my sim would think that important. Sorry for the essay, I love sharing ideas and hearing how other people like to play 😊

You hit on this a little bit, but I would like to expand it. Don’t ignore traits and moodlets. I think every body wishes moodlets had a bigger mechanical impact on the game, but that doesn’t mean you have to ignore them. Actively avoid negative moodlets even if they don’t carry consequences. Also if your sim hates children, actively avoid children even if there aren’t really any gameplay consequences. Treat the Sims like a role-playing game. Play a person and make the choices that person would make regardless of gameplay mechanics

Putting the lifetime at "long life" has really helped me woth playing one family for a long time.it helps me bring up my kids in a way that I get to figure out their personality fully and see what they will want to do and be like as an adult. When babies become todlers I randomize the trait and base their whole life off that. Except for homework. I'm obsessive that all my kids do their homework. Idk why. To make my game more interesting, I started to write down a possible plot for my sims' story, but, instead of deciding everything that's going to happen, I roll a dice to have a random outcome.
I tried to play rotationally, but I got bored of it because I used to play two days with each family and I didn't have the time to do anything I wanted. Now, I prepare a plot for each family and play with them until the plot is over, and I'm actually having a lot of fun.

I also take a lot of photos with/of my Sims, even without the Mosccino Pack. Buy a camera where you can make bigger photos, for every Sim in your household one camera or switch one to every inventory after time if you don't have enough Simoleons.
They haven't even to pose for this, when (for example) a grandma plays with their toddler grandkid, take a photo of them with another Sim, it will be a great memory. After a time you'll have a great Album of their live 😄📾🎞
Or another thing i did recently: play with divorced parents, and let the kids move every week to the other parent. Maybe they have stepsiblings and they hang out with them in San Myshuno, after a week they go back to their single mom in Brindelton Bay.

I like the idea of adding in families and houses from the gallery. However, I sometimes find them incredibly boring. They are often very 'perfect' houses and sims. So I do my own version now - my own npc's, if you will.
When I create my own sims, I like to give them at least one physical 'flaw', and one negative character trait. And I try to play their lives true to their traits. I give them multiple outfits as well. This makes it sooo much more interesting. Other times, I just randomise the traits/gender/other thing, and create the sim based on that - you get some pretty fun combinations. I write a little back story for every household.
I also build them a house, based on their personality. For example, I am very fond of Monroe, the crazy clockmaker, and his house that is filled with clocks. Or lady green, who is obsessed with collecting frogs, who live in a house that sort of resembles a frog. And who can be without Donny Zest, Johnny's much more rich, successful and handsome rockstar twin brother? (who hates him)
What a lot of people liked about the previous games was the craziness and chaos. And yet, many of us fall into the trap of trying to make things perfect, myself included. Why is that?

I really regret that I didn't get into Sims sooner... this is probably the most fun I've had in a game in a while. I really love how much variety you can do with your gameplay. Like you literally do not have to stick with any rules at all. And your "take it slow" approach is a great idea. The first sim I got married had a severely rushed relationship: they became boyfriends and engaged in the same night and got married two days later, so I barely felt chemistry between them.

I haven't played a lot of The Sims 4 yet, but with The Sims 2, my favorite thing to do with babies. I loved having toddlers around in the house. Your tip about naming what you sims would name and not what you would name makes me think of two of my families in particular, the Thompsons and the Wilsons. These were the first two families I made in The Sims 2. With the Wilsons all of the children had a name that was also a last name. The first generation to start this were James and Lauren. Obviously their names are not last names (or hers isn't, James can be a last name), but they named their sons Stanley, Ford, and Cooper. Ford and Cooper did not follow this tradition, but Stanley did. His children with wife Jocelyn included Gary (Garrison), Dallas, May, Kendall, Rose, and more. Dallas married into the Thompson family. His wife, Devon, was named after her father, Devon Jr, who was named after his father, Devon Sr, so of course their oldest was named Devon. They also had Daile, Daelily, and Delroy. This was sort of a part of Devon's family's naming as her and her sisters all had D names like their dad, but their brothers got F names like their mother, Felicia. Lots of fun with names and each family feels different because their names do feel like something the parents would pick.

My tip is to think of ways to use your packs together. This is something I always do before buying new packs, but you can do it without buying new ones.
One of the scenarios I played was using Get To Work, Tiny Living, and Discover University along with the base game. I moved an alien into a tiny home and sent her to college to learn physics and rocket science. I then built a rocket and sent her to space to make friends with other aliens.
There are other scenarios you can play by combining packs. Such as: A spa day in Sulani, a mermaid and spellcaster falling in love, or celebrities going on a wild adventure in the jungle.
Another little thing that I love to do is take wedding photos when my sims get married. I just use base game for this, but it is so fun and I love hanging it up in the couple's home.

I put myself and my fiance into the game and we have had a small child. Then I realized that my three adult kids would want to know their siblings. I've made an apartment lot and replicated their places there. One of my daughters has an upstairs apartment and the other lives on a ground floor. My son lives in a little backyard cottage. I was able to fit it all plus their pets. Now I've been doing play testing and made some changes for gameplay reasons I realized my daughter and my daughter's roommates need their boyfriends. I am having a blast. I'm going to do rotational gameplay. It's really fun doing things the way they would, giving them jobs they would want etc. I also used cheats to put them where they actually are in life. They are midway through careers and already have relationships with each other. When I started up the lot, my daughter and her best friend immediately started chatting. The pets love their owners but need to get to know the other people etc. I am in the process of tweaking the lot so they have more activities their like a pool and workout area. This is really fun

As more traits are randomized, I tweak the backstory accordingly. Backstories are what really makes my game fun and I love to add loads of chaos and drama into them. This really helps make my game more fun, and I start planning backstories since they're toddlers. I hope this helped! :D

I think it helps to establish who your Sim when you're creating them. Some kind of brief backstory, perhaps. For instance, I made a Sim recently and decided I wanted her to have been raised in a hippie commune. From there, I made her look and personality revolve around that. I named her Sunshine Valley. She named her twin daughters Rainbow and Dandelion. She's very laid-back, interested in Wellness and environmental issues. Thinking about where she came from and who she is helped put the rest into place.

Personally Legacy gameplay is my favorite type of gameplay, I just love to see my Sim family grow and the generations they carry on. And when I first even started playing the Sims 4 I did the legacy challenge with my Cousin and I (We had our own separate families, in the same household) (and still doing that legacy!)
But what I usually to keep the game less dull is by (If you don’t use CC or Mods, like me even though I have a computer.) is by when you first create your Sims add freckles, moles, zits, beauty marks, weird/uniquely shaped teeth, etc. This also helps with helping pick out your personality for your Sim.
Give your Sim(s) a negative so they don’t seem so dull
Have a goal by each generation to have this much money or this many goals completed
Adopt Children/Pets and help them shape out your Sims back story (haven’t got the pet pack yet, but it sure looks fun! :) )
Make up a backstory for your Sims, were they an orphan? Did they run away from home? Were they extremely rich before and now broke? Do they have goals of finding love before a certain age? Did they have a forbidden romance, and they move towns due to the shame?

This was a super interesting video! I do a fair few of these, and I think I picked up those habits specifically from watching how Kelsey Impicciche plays. She's doing the Not So Berry Challenge right now, plus she frequently edits her Sims' appearances, puts herself in her Sims' perspectives, and takes things more slowly; all things I've started doing in my game. So I guess the point of this comment is to use Sims CZcamsrs to inspire your own gameplay? Pretty obvious, but I only just connected it đŸ€·đŸŸâ€â™€ïž

    Here's what I'm doing: drama.
Yes, I may be rushing things, but I think it's worth it. I'm having so much drama in my game rn. My ex, Travis, cheated on my sim with Liberty Lee and has 3 kids with her and is married to her, Liberty cheated on Travis with my SON Liam who has a kid with someone else, I got a new husband and my granddaughter Sydney is now married to my step son, My other son is married to Bella Goth because her husband passed, etc. It's been SO MUCH FUN creating drama and letting the Sims around the world grow old and have kids and see the new young adults around. My house started as crap and now It's big and beautiful.
I definitely recommend adding drama. Makes things so much fun lmao.

Give the sims 1 positive, 1 neutral and 1 negative trait, it's so easy to fall into the normal set of traits and they shouldn't be clones of each other.
When I build I make a garage for more than just cars (that we don't have anyway) and they get to "enjoy" a room for cleaning products.

Lately i've been trying to add a pinch of drama to my Sim's lifestories and that has made a huge difference.
Also, when creating a new household or getting a couple married, write a brief story about them on the description, like the ones that come with EA's NPCs. That can help a lot to not lose track about their personalities and what they "aim in life".

As for your ides, well I have used some of them in my game, I sadly have had to stop play with big families as I kept getting confused as to who was related to who and in regards to putting yourself in your sims shoe, well you can do just that with first person view, I think it is shift + tab and then you see the world through your sims eyes and this can make for some very “interesting gameplay”!! with and without mods.

Not rushing things is something I'm really working on. I've played Sims since like... 2007 or 2008 maybe? And I quickly grew accustomed to always cheating their needs, like my default playstyle would be maxing out the needs and making them static so I wouldn't have to worry about them and waste time with boring stuff like sleeping and peeing. But a disadvantage of that is that it makes everything SO much faster, it's like you get too many hours in the day to the point where you reach all your goals immediately and the story runs dry.
So just in the past few years I've started to play without cheating the needs and it's a good way to slow things down for me (though it does annoy me that I now hardly get anything done because they have such limited free time lol, thank god for the long life span option), and I'm also trying to just pace myself and make things more realistic instead of rushing through every goal. In regards to relationships I like the idea of not meeting the right person immediately, instead you may casually date a few people who it doesn't work out with and maybe even have some relationships that don't last before finding your life partner!

Something that I did recently is give my Sims more realistic bank account balances. For example, I did a quick search of what the average bank account balance was depending on their age. My Sim was a young adult, and I read that the average bank account balance for people under 35 was between $3,000 and $12,000 (mean = $3,000, medium = $12,000).
It made my game very interesting. I actually had to budget and watch my bank account balance. I couldn’t decorate how I wanted. My Sims had to learn how to repair things in the house. I really liked it.

    1) I love using photographs. Not the screenshots but the in game photography skill. If I have a sims wedding or childbirth or holiday celebration I usually try my very best to have photos to remember the occasion. If a child grows up or is in scouts etc. I will have photos of each life stage around the house. It helps me remember the story of the family better. Also photos take time and kind of force me to slow down my gameplay without rushing everything.
    2) In addition to your 'vacation' part - since this update I placed a vacation lot in every neighbourhood I could and often my Sims are only allowed to travel to other nieghbourhoods by going on vacation there, forcing me to properly explore the neighborhood I'm currently living in better
    3) (kind of goes with number 2) I have my families actively impact what community lots will appear in my current neighbourhood. If I have a Sim child/teen who loves Wellness and/or Working Out, but there is no Gym/Spa in their neighbourhood I pretend they are helping to build it, so they have a place to hang out. Start a club for working out when they are young and update the lots accordingly to who is actually living in the nieghbourhood, so their needs can be met.

Great video! Thanks! The only problem though with gallery lots is packs. What I mean is here in an example; I found the ultimate mansion in the gallery but they used all the packs to make the house. So those items would not be available to you and your game if you don’t have the pack. BUT there is an option to chose lots with just the packs you have OR uncheck ALL of the packs if you just have base game. Just a little thing I discovered. Also here, be sure that you check the lot size so that you purchase a lot big enough to put it on. Just a few thoughts, thanks again!

Rules I play by are that I try to always learn the traits from different Sims and when my Sim and a stranger have traits in common, they‘re becoming my Sims love interest. And by conflicting traits I often fight a lot with these Sims. Also not being friendly to everyone can spice up your game. And with parenthood I‘m only allowed to skill my toddlers up with an adult. With this system, it is a bit more rare to become the top notch toddler trait. I also randomise the traits for my children, which can often lead to surprises and makes the game more fun. But I‘ll definitely try out your recommendations.

    For me:
    1. I created a fat, lazy sim. Ok? Then I was sending her to the gym, I was making her eat salade, I had a gym routine for her so she could lose weight (something like a challenge) Without cheating or giving up. Then, I would give her a make-over. I would change her name, her hair, her makeup and her clothes (traits too)
    2. So, a sim is evil and she has a basement full of rooms. Her "mission" is to capture innocent sims (lol) and put them in these room, once the rooms are full. She is gonna unlock the doors and free them.
    3. I created a sim that is creative, a genius, and a loner. Basically, I will be sending this sim to collage and make them do a very serious job. Basically, I will be making a really smart sim like reading books and everything without cheats.
edit: I have a new idea, I will make 5 sims and I will have them locked in a room (like human testing) and I would see how long it takes for them to starve to death, Burn to death, laugh to death and yeah. I love my sims 💅😂
