Been using cakewalk since the 80s, so you know I'm an old MF. Glad you young bloods are catching on. Rock on!
Appreciate that. It’s a solid software
I got Cakewalk 2004 Home Studio and Sonar X2 but never got round to learning it🤦🏿♂️
Me too. 😆 Band in a Box , Cakewalk, and Fruity loops. Since the 80's with and IBM 386 computer with 5.25 inch floppy disk. 💾
Cakewalk music creator since 2007 when im senior high School

This man right here is the pinnacle of some peoples choices in careers. Let’s take a moment to thank him for helping others find a way when they are determined to find one.
hell naw shut up
No fr this video just made me take that jump
Wow thank y’all for the likes and comments 💪🏼💯
That's incredibly kind of you to post that comment! And just fyi, people appreciate people who respect and appreciation others, especially the appreciation for those who genuinely deserve it so much, so of course you're going to get some love! Honestly, i wish I saw props given like that more often....
@@michaelangel888 I am grateful for him posting this but I was just asking how do i instal it onto a computer running windows 10 when it says it can not because the computer is running it is S mode and if I come out of that it can not be reversed and s mode is safe mode. Its not my computer to be able to do that. But i am grateful to anybody who helps me or trys too
Great summary of cakewalk’s Sonar I also have been using it since the 1980s when it was distributed on 3 1/2 inch floppy disk and was essentially a midi sequencer. Very intuitive and easy to learn and I have upgraded to every new version since it was released and the company decided to discontinue its production in support.
I had a flashback! I've started my recording engineer career using Cakewalk! I burnt the floppy discs a few months ago!
Yes
@larrylarsen514
🙏Namaste Sir Larsen ! 🙏
I started 1985 with Scoretrack, from C Lab, by using the Commodore C64 II 😉
You just gave people hundreds of dollars (maybe millions if they use it right) worth of value for free!!!! I hope people recognize what you have actually dropped on them!!! Knowledge is POWER!!!
Guitar Hobbyist here, wife told me I need to record what I play goofing off, so I started looking around finding everything (I thought) was big $$$$ but then came across your youtube page and said HUH?? FREE??? This old head is diving in!! God Bless you for putting this out. never used any recording material (played in church for years) and never thought about recording, but now I'm going to see what turns out. Again Thanks!!!
I've been using Cakewalk for years now. I went to this version from Cakewalk 2 during an update and been running it flawlessly. My Slate Digital Plugins work as well as my Komplete Kontrol Keyboard. Dope!!!
Thank you! I am just a stay at home mom who wants to record myself singing and playing my guitar. This is exactly what I was looking for.
I worked with blind children and adults for a long time, and when it was still Sonar, it worked so well with the JAWS screen reader. With that said, some amazing stuff came out of this program, and it was all made by students with little to no vision whatsoever. So I'm not sure how those screen readers work with it now, but I do know it was certainly one of the most accessible for its time.
I've been using it since version 5 and it keeps improving every month. The new owners are really committed to improvements from user feedback. Awesome company, awesome software.
dirty ahhhh
bih
yep but they're quitting on it
@@LionOfKingston They're going to keep the free version available but it won't be updated.
If you want updates, you'll have to buy Sonar. I'm going to buy it. To each their own.
...the lights... they respond to your voice! Mindblown!
I used to run cakewalk back in the day. Looking forward to getting back into music after a long long break. Just got it installed. I can't wait to start playing. Thank you for the walk thru video.
I didn’t know about this software until this video, I downloaded it and it absolutely changed everything for me! Thank you so much for this! 🤲🏽🔥
I've been using this since 2013 (when it wasn't free) and I love it! They still keep it updated and keep adding features. Very stable. It's a phenomenal DAW. For free. Ya boy is not lying on the video.
I never knew how powerful it was. I’ve been using everything except it in my career
Downloaded it last March and am blown away at how good cakewalk is.
What kind of music are you recording?
@@UnitedDestinyEntertainment im starting to record hip hop beats inspired by the man himself dr.DRE
Love Cakewalk - the only treason that I stopped using the DAW is because I've had a Studio One account for nearly 11 years on another computer which was too old when I bought it and quit using it after about a year. Recently I bought a new computer and started back into my account. Although I no longer use Cakewalk I definitely recommend this home recording software
I used cakewalk 20 years ago. Ran through a 64 bit interface lexicon unicorn I think. Very temperamental on the hardware hook up. Once the communication glitches were resolved it was a great recorder and editor. Main thing is to have quality interfaces to get good sound quality out. The unicorn was great.
Yooooooo, Cakewalk was the best ever for me in the early 2000's... I lost it when my PC crashed about 15+ years ago and couldn't find it anymore. SO THIS IS GOOD NEWS FOR ME! I've learned so much over the years about mixing and now that cakewalks is available, it's about to be a wrap, my music has a much better chance at sounding professional. Dude, you just gained a **New Subscriber!
I started with Pro Tools first and it was frustrated very limited plug ins . After I got cakewalk . Was super amaze with all the stuff that can be done . Cake walk is really cool. Thanks for sharing .
I remember using Sonar/Cakewalk back in the day. That's a solid DAW and it won't let you down. Can't beat it for the free in my opinion.
WOW, thank you for this video. I used to own Cakewalk many years ago and used it to input songs into my computer using notation in the software. It is nice to see that it is expanded and available for free. Thank you for the information.
I used to compose different styles of music over twenty years ago on cakewalk until it was called Sonar 1. Among other things my first classic symphony using only the mouse to do my arrangements.
Cakewalk had another advantage in the fact it offered a complete programming language to the users who have all control on the process.
I used a very early version of Cakewalk 3.0 way back in the Windows 3.1 days. Still have the disk, box and manual. Used an MPU-401 interface called "Roland Rap10." I still have it and the PC that I built around it back then. I eventually worked my way up to Sonar Producer and then I schooled in Pro Tools being that it is the standard of the industry. Pro Tool back the was Digidesign.
Yeah man. Cakewalk has been around for a long time. It's always been a great program. The problem for me back in the day was that the hardware wasn't capable of handling all the features Cakewalk could do not to mention Windows wasn't capable of addressing more than 4GB of RAM until they recompiled it for 64-bit memory addressing. I moved to the MacOS (Garageband and Logic Pro) but nothing was as capable as Cakewalk. I will certainly give this a download and a serious look. Windows 10 and 11 are mature and stable enough now to run multithreaded applications that utilize more resources (RAM and Multicores). Great review! You've got me amped up and ready to give it a try. Aloha!
since its updated are you using it now? should i use cakewalk or garage band
Man... I am so glad I found you here on CZcams! I spent about 2 weeks looking for programs. I love the VST's! Everything about this program is professional. And it's FREE!
Is it still free
I remember when you couldn't get into quality recording for less than $20,000. It is so easy today.
I think you made this video just for me , right? LOL...I'm just starting out with VO and working on a budget, in the process of buying the equipment for a home VO studio setup, looking to keep the TOTAL expenses (machine, software, mic, preamp, cables, everything ) under $2k.
Like others here, I had some experience with Cakewalk in the 90s and didn't realize Bandlab was doing such a great job of keeping it up-to-date. Thanks for posting this!
I used Sonar back in 2001 as my main DAW in my studio. Built a great clientele and did projects every day. Its.more powerful now with the VST instruments and the effects and eq strip for each channel. Its top notch but it never gets mentioned in the DAW conversation. I just built a new studio and am using it for production. I haven't even really got into downloading the samples that are available. You won't disappointed using it.
This video came in so clutch. Thank you so, so much. Ableton really limited my ability, but now I am not limited by 8 tracks. Thanks again, man!
My first user friendly DAW back when I started. Loved it!
It’s still a great daw now
I just tripped over this video and I seriously appreciate you dude. I have a midi keyboard and an old version of FL Studio and have been sitting on it.
This inspired me to get moving. I like free...
you got me sold! I used to make music back in the day and am in the works of building my own home recording studio. I do plan on getting pro tools in the near future but i feel like cakewalk will hold me over till i do get pro tools. thank you for the info. im subscribed and will be coming back to your videos to hopefully better myself at engineering and mixing and mastering on cakewalk. thank you. also i am open to looking for beats too! will pay! much love from lincoln nebraska my guy! great content.
I have been using Cakewalk since it came out and loved it. I am at the point of either switching to the new free version, or Reaper. So far I am pretty blown away with Reaper, but Cakewalk feels like home to me.
Is reaper free?
@@UnitedDestinyEntertainment no. but you can you use its trial with all the its features even if the trial has ended. it very affordable. it is honorware i believe.
I used cakewalk as my first sequencing program with a Commodore 64. OMG I can’t even remember how long ago that was! Thanks
I know this is 2 years old now, but being new to the recording stuff, this taught me a ton. Thanks man
Youre not alone im new to this too. Hopefully this gets people like us somewhere
Thank you for introducing us to the most dynamic software I've ever come across for FREE. WOW!
Shawty you da 🐐💯💯💯 Much respect from da ATL 💪🏾😎
Agree...I had Cakewalk Sonar X3 for years but now Bandlab replaced it and it's great. Even seems more stable than the old Sonar! Steep learning curve, but there are a lot of videos that help.
I was a Sonar Pro user and BandLab with both the DAW and the mobile app is genius. And the free mastering tool online is pretty good too! The mobile app is a great on the fly creation app that can do loops, midi, audio and more. I really like it!
Heck ya! I've been waiting on someone to make a good video about the free Bandlab's Cakewalk!! I've been using it for YEARS with no issues.
Man I was trying Cubase as an alternative to my Mixcraft, thank you for this!! It's soooo much easier than Cubase, which you need an engineering degree just to start recording! I was recording in 5 minutes with Cakewalk! Great video! I subbed!
I use Mixcraft which is easy and intuitive. Is Cakewalk better than Mixcraft . Does it come with free effects and virtual instruments
3:52 when you mentioned Davinci Resolve I knew you were spitting FACTS
Great video and solid advice! Thank you so much! Can't wait to get into the software and really appreciate your help!
Man, thank you for turning me on to this. I've been using Audacity which has a lot of limitations. Can't wait to start recording with cakewalk. Thank you!
I've been using cakewalk since the 0.5 version and used to write every single note using a mouse that was the good times
I just found this and I am on the download process🥺😍 I hope this will work great for me cause of how you have put this video like i just feel like i trusted your words, also you have great comment feedback! Yay here we go! 🥳
Trust me it’s a great software go watch my videos and tutorials on it. If I can then do can others
💯
You just re-opened my creativity. Thanks a lot for this bro
Yes, you are exactly right man, cakewalk is the bomb, I’ve been using it before they called it sonar, then they called it sonar, and now it’s back to cakewalk, I can tell you as a professional in the music business. I’ve used them all and cakewalk is absolutely the best, I mixed every video on EMGtv and every album I’ve ever produced including one last week with cakewalk. It is absolutely incredible. And yes it is absolutely free for the full version!!! 🎉🎉🎉❤
I just downloaded this DAW and tried it out. I just played guitar and sang into a condenser mic. Wow! This blows away anything I've ever used before. The effects are fantastic. I've never used Pro Tools, but I can't imagine it being any better than this. I'm so glad that I accidentally stumbled upon your video. Thanks for the info!!!
You aren't missing anything with Pro Tools. It's hay day is over. PT was the only software that big studios used back in the day. That's why everyone wanted to use it at home, because you could take your sessions from studio to home and vice versa. Now that computer processing power and other software options have ramped up, there's really no need for PT, unless you just need old school big studio session comparability.
Thanks for watching the video. Be sure To check out the others on cakewalk
That's amazing. I have Pro Tools and Logic Pro X. I want to try it out. Which DAW were you using Ronald?
Hello I'm Cali plug how much can a sound card cost ?
Yeah, I haven’t tried that yet. But I’ve been using reaper since it’s inception and I love it. It’s simple, has all of the features any other DAW does and has a boatload of free plug-ins and samples, so that you truly don’t even have to buy any sounds or effects. It also works with every controller I’ve ever used. I will try the software to see what I think, but it would take a miracle to make me change to anything from reaper.
Did you change?
@@los3016 I have a project coming up in the next few weeks, so I’m gonna try it then. Use both and see what I like best.
Million words from me can't thank you enough my boss . Bless up and stay blessed

Man. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again.
Thanks for your presentation.
Pretty cool.
I tried it yesterday and I'm impressed by these tools.
I got my first copy of cakewalk in 98 with my AKAI S2000 sampler. I was shocked when Bandlab bought it from Roland and released it free. Its dope AF now. Back then it was just a midi sequencer in 98 . The regular updates, and free plugins/etc are almost all you need. I have about 10 vst synths like Serum ,Thorn, Massive etc. Endless options. Great DA convertor and compression too.
I totally agree this is an awesome Studio bro. An for free? You can't beat it. It has everything you need to make a hit record.
It's mind blowing that this software is free. Seriously....just get it and try it.
thanks bro cant WAIT TO START RECORDING ON THIS THING
Great video. Gonna try it out. Thank you for all the hard work to help get people started!!!
It's insane that Cakewalk is a freebie. I used to live in Sonar. It does everything. It was a tip top commercial product, and I love it. Love to bandlab for this gift. I just wish it ran on my Mac.
I concur!
I remember when it was just called Cakewalk. Then they made Sonar, THEN in 2013-14 it was bought by Gibson guitar, and soon after the stopped support for it and Bandlab acquired it in 2018, and now offer it for free as per this video's info.
U can download window interface for the Mac. And use programms like his. Give iT a try.

I was lost without Sonar. With a £100 interface and this post I live again! A miracle!
Tried Tracktion before. But now I'm a Cakewalk user. 👌🏻👍🏻😉
Cakewalk is legit. It's what I started with in the 90s and studied with in music school in the early 2000s before their business declined.
Estevan Carlos Benson
- Same here... When I studied music technology in the late 90s in the UK, Cakewalk and Cubase were the software of choice. After Cakewalk went away, Cubase became my goto DAW (and still is). I have tried this "new" Cakewalk and I like it, but I think it is just the name and not anything to do with the original Cakewalk though. :)
@@DaveLennonCopeland Well, Cakewalk did seem to evolve quickly during the last years. My last memories of Cakewalk were Sonar 1.0 which seem cool at the time. I imagine this new version is pretty different.
@@estevancarlos - Ah yeah, I remember Sonar too, and it seems that this new Cakewalk by BandLab is a direct continuation of the SONAR Platinum DAW (I Googled it). The new Cakewalk has a small learning curve, but once you get familiar with it, it's really good. Third-party plugins are supported and midi (all the usual stuff for a good DAW), plus it sounds kinda warm too... as said before, I like it. :)
Same, from Musiians Friend in the 90s 😂
Yhooooooo maybe you are insane in production.

I have used Cakewalk SONAR X1 Producer Extended for years. Keep in mind that during that time, MAJOR video game producers used this very SAME software for their background tracks for their games. For instance, in 'Call of Duty: Black Ops', all the music you hear (including sound effects) were recorded in the very same software DAW I use! SONAR is powerful and an excellent tool for beginners to Intermediate-level productions. You can also add video footage (no sound), like music videos (rendered), add and mix your music tracks straight to the video! It is very easy to install aftermarket VSTi's, along with collab work with other artists and musicians. I concur. This is top-quality and I stand behind the Cakewalk name. I bought my first version in 2005, so go figure. I have cut albums and movie scores with this very software.
crazy thank you for this i was searching for fl studio but i think this is the bes choice for me for start
* I started using Cakewalk in the early 90’s & used the very first programs. - Cakewalk version 5,7,8, etc.. You had to purchase the software. There was always a platform upgrade about once a year for many years. Then instead of going up to Cakewalk 9 they started calling it Sonar. The platform exceeded up to Sonar Platinum.
Cakewalk was one of the world's oldest music software companies.
Then the company was sold to Gibson in 2013 by Roland, who bought the company in 2008. The company is best known for the Sonar digital audio workstation (DAW) for PCs, which was conceived in 1987 as a software MIDI sequencer.
Many hits & professional recordings & movie sound tracks etc.. in the music industry were done with Cakewalk - Now known as Cakewalk by BandLab.
BandLab Technologies operation headquarters is located in Singapore. Cakewalk is still excellent & is good as any other Daw out there today with excellent resources & work flow & is also supported by all ofl the major plugin companies like Waves, Plugin Alliance, ik multimedia, etc… if you happen to by & use their plugins.
He's not lying. Sonar Cakewalk is powerful and was the first DAW I ever bought for $100 at an electronics store in the mid 2000's. Still have it and use it, also you can actually upload a video play and create a soundtrack to it.
I believe it isn't qualified as a DAW unless the software offers a video playback feature. That is how foley artists do their work.
I thought audio play back is good for the purpose, correct?
Getting past the software and hardware is paramount to creating anything.
I've been working with this stuff since Cakewalk DOS 3.0 (midi only) and still use Sonar 8 to do midi.
Thank you CZcams and Thank you

Installed, everything works, thanks!
Cakewalk was the first software that I used to use back in the days to record mix and master audio. I rewired it with Reason. Cakewalk is actually more powerful than Pro Tools. It was the first DAW that introduced 64 bit recording. It's just a case that it used to only work on PC and I eventually moved to Mac. It's great though. I recorded 9 albums with it.
