16" MacBook Pro 2019 Intel - Fans and overheating FIXED!

  • I've been struggling for AGES with this machine. It's no slouch, but it gets ridiculously hot and even web browsing is enough to get the fans maxed out. But now there's a fix which won't cost you a penny! However, it does come at the cost of performance...
    Hopefully, this might give some of you a bit of an idea of whether or not this is a solution for you!

    Wow, thanks Si. This has been a total game changer for me. It's almost like having a new machine. I've tried tips from a bunch of other videos to no avail, but this has sorted it..I have a 16" MBP from 2019 which I use as the heart of a small music studio and of course the fan has been an annoyance. Otherwise it performs brilliantly. With this "fix" I can still run smaller projects, sketch ideas and record without issue. Dead quiet, doesn't get too hot .. Was working yesterday with 15 tracks of audio, a bunch of plugins and 3 or 4 virtual instruments and recording acoustic guitars over it. I forgot I had "low power mode" on. It was flawless. When I throw a larger project at it .. 35 tracks or so, more plugins and such it chokes, so for more serious mixing and work it'll have to be full power mode with fans whirring away. But I usually mix at a level where I don't notice the fan noise anyway. Cheers and respect is due :).

    Man I hate my 2019 i9 especially cause I paid close to $4k lol, I'm glad apple basically gave it to you. I want to upgrade to M1 but throwing another $2-4k solely to not have to deal with fan noise/heat is a tough pill to swallow. Trade in value is abysmal on Intels now. I think in Low power mode it auto graphic switches to onboard graphics hence the weird test results. I was using this utility called "Endurance" which automatically sets it into low power mode depending on how you want it to work on battery/plugged in. I did not notice that Monterey added the feature so looks like I can uninstall endurance now, and now I don't have to use my noise cancelling headphones as much now. thanks!

    Hey Man.. Been having this problem now for a long time and was honestly about to BIN my mac or at least sell it at a loss and buy an m1/2. I upgraded to monterey and for the most part this solution works. I upgrdaded and as i use this for recording, with a combinatin of turbo boost switcher and the lew Low power mode i can actually record vocals or guitars without a jet engine 'whirring' in the background, Hooray!! It's still not completely silent but i'm gonna take the machine to a specialist and get al the grime and dirt takent out of the insides. The ONLY problem now is that it is that the fans are stil overheating and kicking in super early if i set my display to 120hz or 144hz. As soon as i do this the fans go to maximum if i'm running STUDIO ONE or Logic then subsiquently starting to glitch and lag out. If i keep my external display at 59.9hz i don't have a problem. Well at least for now this has been a great comprimise. I can live the fact i have a very expensive LG display which i can use to it's full potential if it means i can actually use my computer.

    My experience with the 2019 16" macbook pro has been very frustrating. I use it for development (I have an old apple thunderbolt display), and the laptop got so hot (Monterey) that it basically stopped responding to mouse movement and keys at times! How did I manage? I bought a coolpad (yes, it is loud!) and it made a difference. Honestly, there should a class action lawsuit against apple for selling us a faulty piece of hardware. It's like having a car advertised for going to high speeds like over 150km/h and in reality when you run it it goes only to 80km/h because its engine overheats. The technique in this video works for the case when you just do browsing, but if you have apps to compile you want to squeeze all the juice you can get.

  • @miggu
    @miggu Před rokem +3

    The problem is not the sound it makes when connecting to an external monitor, I remember back in 2019 going to the office and people actually looking at me and asking: isn't that a new mac? it sounds so old. I just couldn't believe it . But that wasn't the problem, it was the whole thing freezing when performing menial tasks like doing a zoom meeting etc... I spent more than £4200 on this. My previous mac was more performant. Still the problem is the hours I had to use to investigate the issue , that's more expensive than the laptop itself...

    Not too keen to lose the performance on my 2020 i7 with eGPU personally. I did find having it on an aluminium cooling plate with large fan and that’s dropped the temps by 15-20c. This drops the MacBook fan speeds, and the large fan in the stand is much much quieter.
    Honestly I wont be buying another MacBook, I’ll be getting a Mac Studio next time and have an iPad Pro as portable. I just don’t need the extra versatility on the go, and modern iPadOS offers a lot more than it did in 2020.

    The problem behind it all , the root of all evil ..... APPLE HARDWARE FORM FACTOR DESIGN FAILURE ... A chassis too thin to satisfy "apple people aesthetics, that unique staple style!" using high end performance parts on a laptop chassis that has no CLEARANCE for a powerful HEATSINK+FANS solution , when you combine an I7 / I9 CPU with an AMD RADEON GPU (5XXX Mobility series , notorious for being really HOT ) ... and you decide to use a SINGLE FLAT HEATPIPE combined with an enclosed chassis design ( no side vents , no bottom plate vents) you obtain the freaking portable version of the CHERNOBYL REACTOR , obviously to publicly recognize this insane mess up would cost apple a few hundreds millions to replace the whole generation of 16" 2019 macbook pros , which in the Tim Cook version of Apple , that's a big NO NO ....
    Just like in previous years and previous generations of all the MacBooks, when people used THIRD PARTY TOOLS to : Manually disable the INTEL TURBO BOOST , to tweak and lower the CPU/GPU VOLTAGES attempting to avoid the insane temps/heat generated by the CPU/GPU in those models ... sadly the multi-million dollar powered APPLE engineering team couldn't go against the "cult of mac aesthetics" design team ! And again and again and again ... they kept replacing intel processors generation after generation .... GPUS generation after generation .... USING THE SAME FAILED APPROACH TO COOLING : A SINGLE FLAT HEATPIPE CONNECTED TO 2 UNDERPERFORMING AND HORRIBLY DESIGNED FANS .... IN A CHASSIS WITH INSUFFICIENT AIR INTAKES
    This low power mode is just a final BAND AID in the mutilated corpse of one of the greatest laptops ever made by apple , BUT they had to keep it cool , nice looking and had to sacrifice COOLING PERFORMANCE FOR COOL aesthetic looks !
    The solution : grab a few thousand dollars or Euros or Bitcoins …. and get yourself a fully decked out NEW M1 max 16" (US $4500+)
    FYI : low power mode kills the watts the chipsets (CPU/GPU) have access to (4W/7W ) effectively hampering the 17-20w the chips should be using, leaving you with an OVERSIZED Chromebook made by Apple 😁
    Edit: I own 2 of them ( I9 /8GB RADEON/ 64GB RAM / 2TB) 😢🤦‍♂️☠👻

Can’t really complain as I ended up with a five year old machine being replaced with once which would have cost an absolute fortune for only £200.

But the industrial cost of each of those custom parts is close to US $600! ☠️ 💰, And not to mention that after the modding is done you can't move the laptop anymore since you will need a big 🧳to fit it ( the cooling solution is the size of 2 closed laptops under the unit )
