I'll explain a bit. Focus were a prog rock band from the Netherlands. They were out there. The thing is this track, "Hocus Pocus" runs over six minutes in its original recorded format. Sugarman's Midnight Special was not always kind to the talent. Focus were told they had to cut their time in half. Some band might have played up to one break and gone home. Instead they played double time and managed to perform the entire track in the time allotted. All these years later it was worth it just to see your face.😀

🤣i dunno how i missed this, maybe 'cause it wasn't played on radio.

I remember this one! It was one of the rock songs back in the day that didn't have singing/lyrics. Billy Preston had one, so did Edgar Winter, and I think ELO had a few. Just nice to have a variety.
A few years ago, the trailer for the Pixar/Disney movie "Onward" used this song "Hocus Pocus" in the music - all of us oldsters recognized it right away! How fun that a movie about magic used the song "Hocus Pocus"! Great reaction! Thanks for posting!

Yodeling. And whistling. And some screaming. Focus was a prog rock band from Amsterdam in The Netherlands. I think they're still together.

This is from a an old TV show, The Midnight Special. The artist were limited to a short time to perform. Focus decided instead of cutting the song, they would speed it up and play the song in it's entirety 😊

This song is the contrast between mankind's desire for peace and love of war. It's a very retrospective piece of music. Just the raw emotion in his voice when he says Bum Ba, get's me every time. Heartbreaking and haunting.

Different experience for you, right? Now you've heard "yodel-ing." People of different countries and cultures do all kinds of things with sound and vocals. You are really broadening your horizons in your study of music 💕🎶

  • @foragingandurbanfarmingatt4745

They didn't normally play it this fast, they sped it up because of the show they were doing, time constraints. That's what I remember anyways. Love that you did this, you had me laugh crying and that's my favorite emotion. Peace

Focus was a great band! Thank you for making this reaction video ❣️PS they did some medieval sounding and classical sounding music, too. They were very progressive. Did you hear the singer's ancient take on beat-box? Cool.

This was great. As far as I know this was their only US hit on the radio. It was big deal when it hit.
There were a lot of bands like this that combined heavy rock with Celtic Olde English and other sounds. Jethro Tull you’ve done before (Aqualung).

Timothy, that one came out when I was a freshman in high school. It got tons of radio station airplay throughout the rest of the 1970's. First time I've heard the live version, personally I prefer the studio version. You should react to it and let us know which you like best.

I'm late to the party, and everybody told you about the time constraints and all the shit. But the real is, you experienced a thing. This isn't a song, it's a thing that overcomes you. It has all the pieces and it gets you. This song is an emotion that Focus forced you to feel. And it's magical - Hence, Hocus Pocus.
