As Hermione said in the first book: "A lot of the greatest wizards haven’t got an ounce of logic." Logic is something muggles seem to be much better at, as it is needed to survive in the natural world with rigid natural laws. It is inheritantly flawed to measure Wizarding society, culture, and thinking by muggle standarts, expectations and logic.

Fleur did NOT refuse to do the 2nd task, she got attacked by zee grindalows, & had to be rescued.
The reason there was no quidditch was also addressed twice.….firstly because the amount of work required by the teacher's & secondly the pitch had to be turned into the maze!

A dangerous competition? Like Hogwarts isn't already dangerous with staircases that move semirandomly, dangerous creatures behind a door with nothing more than a very basic lock on it. Staircases with imaginary stairs students can fall through. Brewing potions *meant* to be fatal under sketchy supervision. Potentionally addictive artifacts left standing about in unlocked classrooms without even a sheet over them.
And a Healer so experienced with traumatic injury that broken bones are little more worrisome than a twisted ankle.
A dragon-egg hunt would be a vacation compared to how Hogwarts tries to kill students.
And all that without accounting for the people, the Whomping Willow, the Dark Forest and those who dwell there or the Chamber of Secrets.
      Or Umbridge.

The entire student body and teachers are transported in the coach for Beauxbatons and the ship for Durmstrang The classes and Test were done within these transports. The Purpose of the Triwizard tournament is to prevent Inbreeding in the wizarding world. but the organizers could not say this out right. The books are written from the point of view of Harry and his friends, and there is a lot the kids did not understand. Ringtail being able to tell the goblet that Harry is from a fourth school and the only person whos name from that school was placed in the goblet. made him a champion of that school. The adults seem incompetent in the Triwizard because the kids are not being told what is going on. The agenda of the adults is working fine the kids from the three schools are interacting as planed. Note that no student died on school grounds.

I’m betting the decision to restart the tournament in 1994 was made a few years in advance-already set in motion by the time Sirius escaped, and certainly before the Quidditch World Cup. That year may have even been decided before Harry’s first year-so preparations started when the wizarding world was seemingly in a state of peace.

  • @HeatherNickless-vt8zr

It could be most likely that Durmstrang students continued some of their exams on the ship, however their study times might differ from Hogwarts study times. I believe that Durmstrang students study a little later in the day while Beauxbatons students start their day in the very early dawn to study; that could be why their study days weren't explained in either the books or the movies.

    • @CM.825
      @CM.825 Před 4 dny

Their study schedule and where exactly they have classes
      - and if they share any classes with for example the Ravenclaw or Slytherin students inside Hogwarts castle
(I personally think that yes, they did share some classes to "further international relationships" to get to know other students and what kind of education they get)
isn't know to us as readers of the book because this isn't something Harry sees or experienced.
Please remember that GoF is told solely from Harry's limited, biased perspective besides chapter 1, like almost all of the other HP books.
He's a 4th year student. Not a 7th year sitting in class together with students three years older than Harry!
He has classes together with other Gryffindor (and sometimes Slytherin or Hufflepuff) fourth year students in his age group between fourteen and fifteen (Harry is 14, Hermione is already 15 for example, as her birthday is in September.)
4th year Harry has almost no clue what goes on in any upper year class. Therefore we as the readers have no clue either. We can only speculate based on some hints.
Of course Hermione has read ahead, and I imagine that she asked around plenty amongst the older students already in her first year to be so advanced academically compared to Ron and Harry.
Only by Hermione telling and teaching Harry (and sometimes Ron) we as readers get to know some of the advanced material, what the upper years are learning in their lessons, or at least should be learning if they had a competent teacher, occasionally.
We almost never see Harry (up to and including book 4, GoF) talking with one of the older students in Gryffindor about anything the upper years are learning. It's a random remark here and there. Besides Quidditch talk, naturally.
In GoF Harry hears that Mad-Eye Moody is a retired Auror with a formidable reputation and that his classes are "supercool". At the end of chapter 13 of book 4 for example, at dinner, George, Fred and their friend Lee Jordan tell Harry and Ron very briefly about their first Defence class. How cool Moody is. "Never had a lesson like it," said Fred.
Several times during the course of the school year in GoF Harry has noticed the foreign students inside the castle, or walking back across the grounds to and from classes. He sees the foreign students entering or leaving the entrance hall, Great Hall or sitting in the Great Hall either at the Slytherin table or the Ravenclaw table.
Harry did notice that Victor Krum is often in the Hogwarts library. (And a gaggle of giggling girls following him around all the time.)
I interpret this as a confirmation of my theory that the foreign guests are not only using the Great Hall and the library, but are also having at least some lessons inside the castle together with seventh year Ravenclaw or Slytherin students.

first and foremost harry didnt need to be 17 to throw the parchment or be in the tournament only thing that he needed to do was to cross the line which anyone older than 17 can do becouse that was just dumbledors measure not ministry or goblet one second book is clear that refusing means death or something worse so harry or anyone cant just refuse they needed to at least try they could be disqualiffied and that way not be penalised but complete turning back from tournament was not passible that is why fleur could just wait until the end of 2nd task but had to go to the 3rd and in 3rd they could get off everything else was staged by voldemort and ministry where lucius malfoy cornelius fadge and dumbledore were the ones that along with barty junior did have free reign to do what they wanted.

Honestly, they never explained how Harry was randomly picked as a 4th wizard when the goblet should've stopped spitting parchments after the 3rd. It's the "Triwizard" Tournament, not the Quadwizard Tournament. Like, was the thing just rusty for being unused all those years and malfunctioned? In any case, none of the rules should apply to the 4th participant, 'cause there should be no 4th participant.

Consider putting "Thomas Marvolo Riddle" into the goblet while it is Confunded to believe he is competing for another school, not bothering to notify him when his name comes out, and letting the Goblet strip him of his magic, which would likely have killed him, draining him, his horcruxes, and all of his followers (using the property of the Dark Mark that allows Voldemort to tap their magic). But wiping Voldemort and his Death Eaters in the middle of the series wouldn't be the same, since there wouldn't be any drama associated with it.

Regarding the Education question, there's another aspect that wasn't touched upon.
Between Halloween and June, the Heads (Madame Maxine and Igor Karkaroff) accompany their students. But they are also the Heads of their own schools. So who runs their schools where the rest of their pupils are? Do they flit off home, leaving the students at Hogwarts with no supervision? We only hear/read that Maxine and Karkaroff accompany their students, there doesn't seem to be any other teacher from either school and we know that the Durmstrang pupils sleep on their ship, so they would need a Teacher with them at all times, so do Maxine and Karkaroff simply abandon the vast majority of their students while they Holiday at Hogwarts for most of a school year?...

there could be a substitute head master/s or second in command etc. it happens all the time in real schools too. the most disturbing fact is that you have a bunch of last year students are away from their academic progress and the rest of their friends while Rowling could condense the whole thing in a month top at the end of the year or have the tasks held each one at a different school. this would achieve the same level of socialization and wouldn't distract the rest of the schools curriculum and activities

Harry doesn't know how they actually spend their time besides the few times he directly observed these two foreign school headteachers doing something specific at Hogwarts.
Harry doesn't think or care about such things, if they need to look after their school in another country or not, therefore we as the readers don't get told in the book.
I don't understand your thoughts about the last year students being away from academic progress and their friends.
They are together with a group of their fellow students and friends. They mostly stick together in a group when moving around Hogwarts, sitting in the Great Hall for meals each time that Harry sees them.
These seventh year students (17 and 18 years old students) all attend classes during the school year, they don't laze around on the Hogwarts grounds all the time.
We don't see this directly, of course, because Harry doesn't. The books are told almost exclusively from Harry's limited, biased POV.
He's a 4th year Gryffindor student participating in 4th year classes. He doesn't sit in with the 7th years! Especially not with 7th year Ravenclaw or Slytherin students.
Because the foreign students sit either with the Ravenclaw or Slytherin students in the Great Hall, I assume that they share classes with these houses and not with the Gryffindor upper years, because I can't recall upper year Gryffindor students like Angelina Johnson ever talking about any shared classes with the foreign students... Although maybe she did, only not in hearing range of Harry Potter...?
At the end of the year the 7th years sit their examination, N.E.W.T.s for the British students, and whatever the names are for the other schools. Nasty Exhausting Wizarding Tests.
Harry did notice that for example Victor Krum spends time learning in the Hogwarts library. With a gaggle of giggling girls following him around. Victor Krum is a person who is of interest to Harry, therefore he's paying attention to where Victor is and what he is doing.
I suppose other foreign students students were there too sometimes, but Harry didn't especially notice them, he ignored them.
