You probably would have heard of Anglican before because it refers to the Church of England and you're English. Plus your head of state (King Charles) still has powers over the Church of England today, and unelected bishops of the Church of England are automatically seated in your Parliament still to this day as a matter of tradition, so it does somewhat impact your life. They lead prayers and are allowed to vote on legislation. The UK is the only Western democracy that automatically sits religious figures in legislative proceedings in their religious capacity. This makes the United Kingdom and Islamic Republic of Iran the only two countries in the world to have such a setup with their legislature.
@@bethvaughn4231 ??? Guy in the video says he has heard of Anglicanism but not sure where. Living in England, it's likely you'd be aware of Anglicanism even if you aren't a practicing Anglican for the reasons I cited. We learn about the formation of the Church of England and Henry VIII in European/World history classes here in the United States. I'm reasonably assuming a Brit would receive British history in their education as well. Am I wrong to assume this? Even if you don't remember historical facts down precisely, hearing it again later in life might cause you to feel deja vu. Nothing I said was remotely rude. Don't know why you're offended on his behalf. If this is a common pathology in your life, then I suggest you seek a therapist.

The study of religion is fascinating because it is truly a study of human history that includes geography, politics/government, academics (including science), art in all of its forms, culture, etc.
I'm a lutheran. He was pretty spot on there. Don't know that I agree with everything he said, but don't know why there were so many dislikes.

And not explained well is are Liturgical churches (Catholics, Lutherans, Anglican/Episcopalian) vs other Protestant churches. Since Luther was a Catholic priest and Anglican/Church of England broke off Catholic Church reason service (or mass as called often) are very similar, same readings universally across all, same liturgical calendar, same core Creeds, as well as the literal/physical church always having alter at center (not pulpits) of chancel, a nave and narthex. Of course, differences, but those churches very different than Baptist or Pentecostals + others.

"Anglican; I think I've heard of that" - OMG. You're really British aren't you? Your King is head of the Anglican church and your former king, Henry VIII, created it.
It's also the basis for the word that kids where I lived all liked to learn because they thought it was the longest word in English: "antidisestablishmentarianism".
It's a weird way to start. One would normally start with the historical church and how the different branches formed out of the historical church. You might begin with the Eastern church and Western church, the first major split where one was Greek speaking and the other Latin. Then you might list some of the Eastern churches and where they are currently most followed. You might then focus on the Reformation and the various branches of the Western churches.
Of the several British YTers I watch, you have by far the most interesting and innovative reactions. Keep it up!
What confuses me is that you seem to be very intellectually curious and yet you keep telling your followers how little you absorbed from your formal schooling. We Americans like to think our public schools (government-run schools over here) these days are awful. Could the British ones be worse?
i would say i am Christian and i would even say i am protestant though my beliefs don't align to any specific church group i was raised in both Baptist and Pentecostal church
I grew up nondenominational with a nondenominational mom and non practicing catholic dad, nondenominational is basically Baptist and non practicing Catholic is basically agnostic. I converted to Presbyterian, which you are probably more familiar with being called “the Church of Scotland.” The term “Presbyterian” refers to the governing structure of the Church of Scotland. Just like how In America, Anglicanism is referred to as “episcopal” because it’s the governing structure of that church. The “Congregationalists,” the “Presbyterians,” and “episcopals” all are common terms in America to refer to British Christian denominations that often go by different names in the UK.

There are 3 Main Abrahamic Religions ( or 5 Abrahamic Religions too )
Jews, Christianites, Muslims, Mormons, Baha'i Faith
Mormons are supposed to be Christians, as in followers of Christ.

@@KSATSpottingthey don’t say it, they call themselves Christians. They believe in Christ, the begotten son of the Father, but that he is not the father himself. Rather the son and the spirit work under the plan of god. It’s the same Jesus Christ.
He was pretty spot on. The one addition I suggest is this. Being ordained in the Metropolitan Community Churches, which I expect he would include with Radically Inclusive, is that we do also accept the central tenets of the Christian faith in both the Apostles and Nicene Creeds. However, we believe that all people are God's beloved children and that includes LGBTQI+ people. We also provide great leeway in how we understand scripture. I hope that you will do more about religion. It is fascinating. Peace

He kinda does, but it was used as an example as a heretical denomination. I other words, he defined it as not Christian technically.

I'm Southern Baptist which is obviously a branch of Baptist but it's a little to the conservative side but not radically so. I know there's American Baptists which are slightly more liberal and then Primitive Baptists that are the Westboro Baptist types that are ultra-conservative.
I just want to add that when we are in between pastors and are looking for a new one, we elect them. I know a lot of branches do not directly elect. Usually some of our active members will be appointed to start searching for a pastor through résumés and then invite one to come speak for a couple of weeks. The members of the congregation will individually vote yes or no for that guy to be our full time pastor.

I’ve already seen that video. My family is Lutheran which originated in Germany. And was carried over when they immigrated. Ironically there aren’t many Lutherans in Germany anymore.
Nordic countries are also lutheran (although many people here aren't religious anymore either :D)
There's definitely a lot more nerdy you can get with it than he goes into but he does good in giving the basic differences. Pretty much every denomination has 1 or 2 differentiating views that distinguish them but you can really nerd out on them. For instance, I'm probably closest to Baptist theologically and while the symbolic view of baptism and communion are the main giveaways, Baptists also believe in eternal security which is more or less the same as the 5th point of Calvinism, despite the fact that for the most part(not always, it's not something the SBC enforces and there are plenty of Reformed Baptists), Baptists are moderately Arminian(believe that salvation is a choice), rather than believing in predestination(basically, the idea that God chooses who will be saved and reject the idea of human free will.)
It probably doesn't help that most religions condition their followers to ignore any criticisms of their faith.
Over 2000 Protestant denominations, many quite small.
Then you have weird stuff like there's two denominations of Presbyterian. Your PCA and PC USA, both are Presbyterian but USA leans towards the Methodist ideas. And I say this is someone that grew up in a PC USA Church.
So to start with you have the catholics, people didn't like them and so Martin Luther created his doctrine, nailed that to the church door all that, those people became lutherans.. yeah the same thing happened again with John Calvin, which created Calvinism, yeah the same thing happened again with a John Knox, and John Knox is the father of the Presbyterian

I think people just disliked it bc it’s about Christianity. Really doesn’t make a lot of sense otherwise. I thought it was a good summary. I never understood the Orthodox side growing up. It was always Protestant or Catholicism.
The dislikes are from all those folks he dissed as "on the fence" or outright heretics. Not a good video to learn about the subject because it's hard to detect the bias without some basic background knowledge. You gotta start with the what we know about the earliest origins, the subsequent beagats w/ an explanation for the spits, and work your way to the present. Then if you care enough you can go deeper into all the differing doctrines, practices, and dogma. And if you are still obsessed, learn Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic so you can decide for yourself what those darn scriptures say.

You should look up more videos on the history of Anglicanism since it originated from.. well England.
The Church of England, a Protestant denomination, was founded by King Henry VIII so he could divorce his wife (who was Catholic) and remarry Anne Boleyn (divorce had to be granted by the Pope under Catholicism & he was not granting it) because he wanted a male heir.
Thus Anglicanism basically arose from the Church of England.

11:20 you can say how "beautiful and historical" old church architecture is, but you won't go there and pay for it. YOU aren't going there to meet God. People DO meet God in the newer places, and those newer places keep growing.
The newer buildings aren't as pretty, but that also has almost nothing to do with the spiritual experience anyways.
How do you know about the religious and spiritual experiences in the older, historic churches? Who says the older religious places of worship are not growing?
@@dayeti6794 ... The statistics. We have stats for church attendance, and we see the fastest growing denominations are non denominationals. Meanwhile the "old architecture" denominations are dying.
@@SeanWintersAlso, there are just way more old and beautiful churches in Europe, while in North America many churches are modern buildings as that is simply more convenient than trying to replicate the old style of architecture.
@@user-bc5mv2ot8k Yes, and while correlation does not equal causation, I do believe it is the same spirit that rejects ornate architecture that allows Christ to move within america, while in Europe there is a spirit of tradition over substance.
People often claim that American Christians are off seeking some emotional hi, but would you not say that the experience of being in an ornate building leads to those ends too? I propose that flashy lights and loud, modern music are far less distracting and far less shallow than the beauty of old and mere tradition.

The UK is substantially atheist, anti religion in general. So there is no requirement in schools to learn about religion or something that’s not believed and scoffed at.
Religion doesn't belong in schools. Separation of church and state.

How can you understand The Troubles if you don't know what a Protestant or Carholic is?
I guess Protestant basically the holy trinity and I am reborn and baptised and Jesus is the savior. The Church is all of us as the saints and Jesus is the savior not by good works but good works is through Jesus by the holy spirit and the father! Peter in the bible was never Pope nor had any chain of command but a disciple who spread the message and died in Rome in 64 AD he was martyred except John and written in the book of John! You don't pray to saints or Mary but to Jesus or the Father! Catholics are way out there raised but not anymore. I attend Calvary church.
As a "calvary church" person, you're basically just non-denom, like me. Calvary chapel is a phenomenal group, their preaching and understanding of "orderly gifts of the spirit" are fantastic.
However, if someone doesn't know what calvary chapel is, yeah it's basically just non-denom.
I can see how the video you reacted to has so many downvotes. It's not even that its offensive or anything, but its all over the place, poorly explained, without any sense of historical or geographical development.
Maybe the downvoters had the same problem as you... Understanding that the video is about giving a brief explanation of each, not an in depth history.
It’s the cliff notes version of beliefs. Talking in-depth about each one would probably need multiple videos
The dislikes are probably a mirror for all the little points of disagreement even within Christianity itself. The more you learn about various religions, the less religious you become. Buncha wankers making up stories to feel important.
Religion is the best grift in history. Gets people to share their money and it gets power over ignorance. Oh to be the head with all the real power
Considering you live in the United Kingdom, named after a religion and have kings and queens, supposedly representing a religion, I’m really dumbfounded that you have no relation to any religions. If you don’t believe in the UK, maybe you shouldn’t live there.

Watching some British TV shows & CZcams and disliking a certain American, is a long way from knowing things about the UK.
@@SeanWinters that is completely untrue. If you were assigned to church, why are there so many atheists in the United Kingdom? Why do other faiths exist in the UK like Islam, Catholicism, Presbyterianism, and whatever love of self religion, the north Ireland people espouse? Anglicanism is the turd in the punch bowl of Christianity.
Thank God, the UK is on an island all by itself and not part of the European mainland proper.
