2:28 "Approaching too low" No, it isn't. Also, that's common for every plane at that airport, that's why there are people there taking pictures

I was coming into Detroit from Orlando, Florida on a Boeing 737, once. I could see that we were over Windsor, Ontario when we made a gentle turn to the west to head to Detroit Metro Airport. I don't know why but after a bit (which can be a lot of ground distance flying at 180ish miles per hour) we made a very sharp left turn. I was seated next to a window on the left. I looked out my window and all I could see was ground. The pilot wound up the engines. In a turn that steep he had to add a lot of power or the plane would have slipped out of the air sideways. He leveled the plane out, put the nose up and in less than five minutes we made a nice, smooth landing. I've never had anything like that happen, since.

I've had multiple incidents on commercial airlines and survived, but a lot of my friends have told me that they wouldn't get on the same plane with me.

7:35 - That's a standard approach into St. Bart's in the Caribbean, tho a bit left of centerline. You need a special certification to land there. What you can't see is that they're filming from a road that runs along the top of the ridge. Traffic can sometimes be a hazard.

Reminds me somewhat of Guam where there's a mountain at the end of the runway that planes taking off have to clear (and more than one hasn't).

I was a private pilot when i was a teen/ 20s. In flying, if you fly a lot, its almost guaranteed eventually there will be some kind of incident.
But, the most important thing to mitigate is information/ knowledge about your airplane, the airport, weather and how to work with ATC to problem solve. Airline pilots do A LOT of training and testing on simulators to learn how to handle emergencies. There are videos that there is a pro pilot that investigates/explains pilot errors and how it could have veen avoided. I like to watch "74 Gear" and "Mentor Pilot".

The first plane was taking off overweight. Hen e, the longer takeoff roll & difficulty climbing. Either the pilots knew and didn't care or were fed i correct data to make their calculations with. IIRC that particular operator is/was (if they're still around) notorious for overloading their planes and pushing safety boundaries.

Like the great George Carlin said... These are "near hits" a collision would be a "near miss".

Great video, thanks Thurston and have a nice holiday. However, note to self: If ever flying into St Bartholomew, wear an adult diaper (nappy) just in case. Some of these are bloody scary.
There is a show produced in Canada but also shown in the USA and the UK called Mayday (also Air Disasters) that has covered over the past 24 years just about every single crash of an airplane. It is fascinating, but I don't recommend watching it before a trip. Most of the crashes are due to human error and only occasionally equipment failure.

I have flown everywhere from Labrador to the South Pole (that latter once in a 4-engined plane with 3 three malfunctioning engines). I've been lowered out of helicopters onto the heaving decks of ships at sea and landed on ice flows in planes with skis rather than wheels. And the older I get the less comfortable I am flying. Since I retired and no longer have to do it for "work", I just don't fly any more. It would no longer be an enjoyable "holiday" for me.

That's called "reacting". It's what he does. Click the link if you just want to watch the original video. I don't think CZcams would allow him to just play somebody else's video without adding his own comments--it might violate some copyright or something.

You should check out some of the videos at the end of the runway at Princess Juliana International Airport on St. Maarten. Despite many Warning Signs, daredevils gather on the beach to watch landings and especially take offs.

I had a flight into St Louis go bad upon attempting to land. As we were approaching the runway and almost down the pilot suddenly pulled the plane hard up and to the right. Sitting on the right side of the plane allowed me to witness the reason for the aborted landing. We had to abort because there was a plane sitting on our runway we were assigned to land on.
i saw it clear as day sitting right in the area of the runway where planes touch down. The worst part about that was it was the first leg of a 3-way connecting flight so we had two more take offs and landings to go after we finally landed in St Louis that is!!!
