  • Wauw! I have tested the giant 6x4" magnet I combined from two single 6x2" monster magnets in my previous video. And I'm not disappointed - I show you the results in this video. New records incoming!

UUUGGH; What a hell it would be, with all the trouble-makers in society, who needs (or wants) extra stink to attract attention of such shitty people?!?? Having magnetos superpowers would/could be cool, star Trek technology, or Q's "imminent powers that be", would be really neat. I think that after a short while, it would become boring and uninteresting. Until then: just too damn dangerous! I know that there is a God that prevents us from attaining such superiority! 😏

    Your videos are great, i love how you work hard to make your videos with quality, even adding a subtitle!(which for me is really useful as english isnt my primary language so it is a bit harder to understand people talking it). I love how you also dont make popularity as primary goal, instead of asking for likes in the beggining of the video, you say "Like if you did like" in the end. That is really nobel. Your channel deserves much more.

  • @ergohack
    @ergohack Před 6 lety +2

    So close!
    I actually went back to the previous video and checked whether you had measured from the center or the edge, but then I completely forgot to add the increase in thickness. If I had added half of the 50mm increase in thickness over the single magnet, I would have had a range of 222.5 to 223.5cm. The range was to account for unknown rounding errors in the supplied data.
    Edit - I just realized that there is no way that the 175cm data point I used could have been rounded up, due to the original single magnet being measured in 1cm increments. The single 150*50mm magnet may have actually passed at 175.8cm, and still failed at 176cm. I'm guessing it wasn't 175.8cm, since you would have noticed that it was nearly passing at 176cm and likely gone back to check at 175.5cm. I doubt I would have thought of that when I was making my guess.

  • @uziTGC

    Great video as always, thank you!
    I only have one question: At 5:47 how do you explain that out of the three people that predicted very close to the result the one that was the closest was just guessing and the two that used the mathematical formula to predict were slightly off? Could they have come up with a method that would me more accurate?

    • @SamuelLiJ
      @SamuelLiJ Před 6 lety +7

      Hi, I'm the author of the comment and program on the left at 5:47. 3cm out of 223 cm is roughly a 1.3 percent error.
      The data I used was taken from his previous videos, in which the distances were rounded to the nearest cm. This may not seem like much, but 1cm out of ~1m is comparable to the magnitude of the errors we are dealing with.
      I originally used a blind power-law regression to predict the inverse compass distance. Due to the nature of power-laws, this is very prone to underestimation (which did indeed occur in this case). However, after I posted the original comment I improved my method by computing the theoretical exponent for the power regression, based on physical laws (which turns out to be 1/3). Using this refined approach predicts 222.94cm, a much more accurate result.
      The improved code can be found here: www.dropbox.com/s/p8n1zyi7nb3h1yi/magnet-prediction-improved.py?dl=0

    • @ergohack
      @ergohack Před 6 lety +4

      When doing my original calculation, I didn't account for the face of the magnet being an extra 2.5cm closer to the compass. If I'd done that, I would have calculated 222.99cm, not accounting for rounding errors. In my original calculation, I assumed that the 175cm data point had been rounded to the nearest cm. So I used the smallest and largest measurements that could have been rounded to 175cm, and got the range 220 - 221cm as a result.
      Thinking about it again, this is not the type of rounding error that would have occured. 175cm could only have been a rounded down measurement, since he was measuring in 1cm increments.
      Using a value halfway between the original 150x50mm magnet's 175cm pass / 176cm fail points, multiplying by the cube root of 2, and adding the 2.5cm from the thicker magnet, gives a result of 223.6cm.

    Can you extend magnetic field by attaching magnet to a metal part ? It would be nice to see how magnetic effect would change ...

    Is there any simple method to measure how fast magnetic field travels in the space?

    Please make a video of cobalt magnet and what is the pride of that magnet

    Does magnetic force depends on the magnet shape itself ? E.g you use 200mm diameter by 50mm thickness , how much distance will change if the diameter will be 50mm, and thickness 200mm ?

    Hi, I was wondering are the electronics in the Gauss Meter affected by strong magnetic fields? Did you place the meter at different distances to see if you get different readings for the same magnet-measurement? I would like to see a control experiment to make sure that the Gauss Meter is reading correctly.

      I haven't tested it. With the price of the shown gaussmeter it better be shielded... It's a pro model and should be designed to be close to strong magnets :) Thanks for watching!

    Hey Brainiac....
    I didn't participate, but I like the results....
    As always..... it's great fun watching you and the power of magnets!

    Hi, i am into an important proyect and i can't find online stores selling those magnets. How much do you say they cost? I am asking about the strongest, non coupled magnet you have tested.

    Aspetto con ansia il test che spero vorrai fare a un D8" x H6": ho in cantiere un progetto per un motore propulso da campi magnetici... 🙂

    Can you make an eletromagnetic one, with equivalent pull force of 1.2 tesla? What voltages, and wires needed?

    i love your videos. i am curious about the repell properties of such powerful magnets. how much weight can they support before touching.

    • @brainiac75
      @brainiac75  Před 6 lety

      As a rule of thumb: if two magnets with a maximum pull force of 100 kg each is forced together with equal poles facing each other, they will repel with up to 100 kg. In other words they can make up to 100 kg hover at a low height. I may need to make a video about it at same point. Thanks for watching!
