i visualize a flat circle and for it to turn into a half sphere it must stretch out by the radius. I can visualize the area stretching and increasing but why does it increase by exactly 2 fold?

I was going to comment on this video and realized I already did! Anyhow, when I left my old job last year I took a "crystal ball" with me. It's just glass but it's spherical and mesmerizing. On the way home the sun actually hit the sphere and melted part of my seat. I only noticed it when sitting at a light and saw smoke. Oops! Also, it's dangerous to hold one outside in the sunlight because it will also burn skin. :-o I actually dropped it because of that but it is still intact. I've learned my lesson. ;) Grats on getting many more subs since this video was made.

For the hemisphere golden ratio thing at 3:50, I’d imagine you’re looking for a practical method that would relate the inner area to the outer. Basically, to visualize, all you need to do is imagine that the shape is hollow and made out of paper. When you bend the inner circle (or “plate”) inward so that it matches the outer layer’s curve, you’ll see that it’s smaller by a noticeable 2x amount. That means there’s a strong relationship between the curve length and the actual length.

Excellent video, I have a new respect for the sphere thanks to you.... Yes, your pronunciation of Sphere was correct, and you speak English very well too... Should you ever need any assistance with pronunciation or translation feel free to msg me, I'd be glad to assist you... Google is not always 100%, with regards to translation, but they are the best I've found and have grown to trust them; despite their intrusive ways... I do find Google to be more good than bad, while BING on the other hand, is just BAD any way you look at it... Cheers....

Thanks for the offer. Once in a while I do use some of the opportunities online to hear a word spoken. Being Danish, English isn't always the easiest language to pronunce. I remember once giving up on saying 'Your usual fridge magnet' for a video... My tongue just wouldn't accept it x)

+brainiac75 No worries, I'd be happy to assist you because you seem like the type that would appreciate the assistance. Others tend to think they know it all and would take offense to such an offer... If you like you can email me directly: cybercapri at gmail dot com... Again you English is not that bad and you are very easy to understand unlike others on CZcams... Cheers...

I loved the water in the cup test just brilliant. My favorite shape is the skeleton cube, in which the shape is made out of bars or such. I just love how perfect 90• looks at all vertices.

hello Brainiac I was sitting here and it just dawned on me why the shell of a half sphere has a surface area 2 times of the circle. First the circle's surface area is what we start with that can be seen from the top view. Now for the half sphere the shape expands into another dimension. From a side view the circle had zero surface area. But a half sphere does have surface area from the side view. I'm sure you can imagine a half sphere from the side looks like a half circle. So from the top view we have one circle's surface area, from the side view we have a half circle's surface area and another half circle's surface area for the back. This makes a total of 2 of the circle's surface area. One for the top view, and two halfs for the side view including front and back.
