- After 10 Days in Lockdown, i'm picking up some projects at home that need completing!
Today, I am restoring my solid oak front door. The winter has not been kind to it! A lot of sanding, oil and varnish later. It's back to it's former glory!
Thanks for watching.
Any questions, please leave a comment.

Quite Handsome door ,very secure, but requires more cosmetic maintenance now , varnish on the wood, polish on the hardware ✔️👍don’t forget the door jam too ,it too requires attention ✔️✔️
The two little princesses approve! 🙏
Nice looking door , going to start mine soon , 30years of paint to remove first on door and 2 side panels and wasn't sure of best finish ..not paint ! But like the look of oil then varnish , didn't know you could do that , obviously the varnish did dry then . And yes as with all jobs prep prep prep is what it's all about . Great job well done.
Great video Jake. Lazy (and probably stupid) question - our oak front door looks like the same sort as yours but is in slightly better condition. It just has a couple of tarnished spots, rather than the whole thing needing to be done. Is there a cheat way to get it looking nice without removing the door and going through the whole exercise you show here?! Thank you for your help.
What grit of sand paper did you start with/finish with?
I got a question I brought my oak veneer doors 4 years ago now there dirty with traffic and grease marks I painted one of them and it's very dark I didn't sand it down enough do you think it's possible to sand that back to its normal wood colour and re do it again for a lighter finish if so what grade paper should I use
How much would it cost $ to have it done including sidings?
Could I ask which oil and varnish you used please? Cheers.
Hi Nige. It was osmo UV protection oil and from memory I just used Rustin's outdoor clear varnish. Hope that helps, cheers 👍
@@jakemaplesden1960 Thanks so much. 5 hours sanding !!!!😀
@@nigestephenson282 no problem. Yep 5 hours! As always it's the prep work that takes the time and effort, the finish is the easy bit!
