I have been emailing back and forth with Enchroma about all of this, they saw the videos and reached out and loved them. They told me that while these are outdoor glasses, they won't work on the test anyway because that's not how they work and aren't designed to cheat the system like that, hence why I got the same result as before.
They also take about 15 minutes to work properly and for some people can even take hours or a day to fully change anything, it's different for everyone.
All in all I'm mentioning this because this video was more for fun than to give conclusive proof of anything.

*How they work*
Your red and green color receiving cones in your eyes are right next to each other.
The glasses blocks the green and red cones that are in the middle/touching.
This causes the reds and greens picked up by the outer cones to be brighter and more distinguishable.

I think the 5 is to test whether you are so used to seeing grey that you will stretch to turn the dark grey into a 5, the 5 is only appearing dark grey and the background is light grey, so im sure you can see all the colors, its just you don't have to stretch to find it usually, so you aren't going to waste the extra kilojoules to force yourself to see the pattern in between the two shades of gray

your eyes have cones that allow you to see color. There are 3 different ones: red, blue, and green. if you are colorblind then two of your cones are overlapping. in your case, the red and green corners are overlapping. the glasses create a barrier between the two cones so that they are a normal distance apart. Allowing you to distinguish colors easier.

8:22 They're called Stereograms. When I was little we lived in apartment buildings where the floor outside our door was a stereogram. I didn't learn what it was until I was like 12, but I was able to do the lazy eye thing when I was much younger. It's pretty cool, and it's hard to learn how to do it unless you know how to do it.
Yo can do it and it's super cool!
I think that they work by basically boosting the contrast of certain colors so you can distinguish between two colors you couldn't tell the difference between before. Obviously they can physically change how your eyes work so its simulating new colors with the available colors in your eyes.
You have to keep them on for ten to fifteen minutes for them to work completely.

Exactly, the eyes need some time to adjust, it says so in the enchroma manual.
toa matoa just like regular glasses
Yeah, sometimes it can take up to ten hours for your brain to adjust, depending on your brains "elasticity".
The glasses are completely different for everyone. There are two ways to be "color-blind". Either you have the colour receptors and they don't work correctly, or you don't even have them in the first place. I have a pretty extreme case of red/green colour blindness. I took the test from a doctor that specializes in colour blindness and without glasses I got 2 of 50 tests right. With the glasses I got about 60% right and the interesting part is that with contacts I got 90% right. The doctor told me that the glasses don't do that much because the light still reaches your eye without going through the lenses which is why the contacts are so much better.
Also he tried a bunch of different kind of glasses till he found the right one for me. I saw a LOT of different colored glasses till he found the right one for me. It's kind of like getting the right glasses with prescription.
Was a really interesting experience having that test done, and it only cost me 50€ :)
I would recommend anyone that knows that they are colour blind to look up a professional and get a test done. It's completely different then some glasses made for "everyone".
What's interesting is, this isn't JUST a test for colorblindness, cause I have normal color vision and there were a few in there I couldn't see. It's also a text for the glasses! They let him see things that not even color-seeing people could
I took this test and basically, uh- you gave me the answers to some. I absolutely couldn't see some of the answers that you could but I could see the colours that you couldn't.
I know it's not really the main point of the video, but I just have to say how much I appreciate how ethically honest you are. Whenever you're discussing things from your perspective - in this case, self experimentation - you always either preface or follow up with a disclaimer, that this is your personal experience, or it may be anecdotal, or maybe that's just what you've seen, etc. and to take it with a grain of salt, that things may be different for others. I really admire how careful you are with your phrasing, especially where it comes to how it might affect or involve people, and how you make sure to remind us that what we see you do/experience may not be the same for everyone. A lot of Popular Creators lose that really fast as soon as their egos get too big for their heads - thank you for not being one of them.
Yeah, and he's way better already than Logan Paul who actually lied when he did the colour blind gasses.
If you want to see someone who is strongly red-green colorblind you should check out channel called Doodle date, art channel, artists are Adam and Steph, Adam is the colorblind one and they recently made a video trying out the glasses. I didn’t know I was red green color blind till this morning
At night on my pc monitors and phone I set the night mode on with strong color settings to warm colors, because of this I did not see anything in those 3 gray in Jack's test. I was very intrigued by this, so I've gone and did the test myself, only after I disabled that filter. Passed it 2 times with normal vision. Nice topic here Jack, talking about something that affects lots of people, good job. You are awesome!
The way the glasses work is that they use a filter to cut out the overlapping wavelengths due to the cone that absorbs the colors red and green. Because the glasses cut out the wavelengths it allows distinction in the colors.
P.s.: looking good in those glasses my man

I actually had a lot of trouble with several of the Enchroma ones in the video, but I suspect that CZcams's compression played a part. When I took the test for myself, there was no uncertainty on any of them, and I blew through it and have normal colour vision, but in the video there were several where I saw absolutely nothing -- in fact there were a couple where I saw nothing and you quite confidently saw something.
You asked how these glasses work: Mild Protan is AKA color confusion isn't a true color blindness. Our red and green color sensors cover a wider spectrum and at one point overlap. Fully saturated red and/or green is no problem. We can even see washed out red and green. But put the washed out colors next to each other and that's where the problem begins. Our red sensors pick up part of the green but send a "red" signal to the brain. Our green sensors pick up part of the red but send a green signal to the brain. Apart we see the color; together our brain says what color am I looking at? Even though we can say "I see red and green" we can no longer see he pattern. (If you're dyslexic like I am this makes perfect sense). Enchroma uses a "Notch filter." It blocks the colors in that overlaping region. We actually see less color but because we no longer have different color sensors responding to the same color our brain is no longer confused; what remains pops. The colors appear brighter. With enchorma it's best to take your time. Where the green overlap begins and where the red overlap ends varies from person to person. Enchroma makes several "notch" filters for this very reason. We don't want to block out part of the spectrum that isn't a problem and we want to make sure that we block out all the spectrum that is. Best compromise if you can't get a perfrect match: You won't notice if you're blocking out a little too much, but you will definitley notice the opposite.
My girlfriend took the enchroma test. It literally stopped her and said “you’re too colorblind you continue.” 😂

A funny man check the test and see
@@cyruslightz I checked and it will sometimes prompt ' an error was found in your responses, If you receive this notice again, your colour blindness may be too strong for this app to measure'
Actually the same thing happened too me. It sucked cause I really wanted to try those glasses. I took the test like 10 times and it kept doing that. I don’t even care if it doesn’t change much I just would like to see a little more color
My girlfriend is actually fully blind.
A contributing factor to this is she doesn’t have eyes because she doesn’t exist
If anyone is curious on how the glasses work:
Humans have 3 different types of cones in our eyes that respond to different wavelengths of light: blue, red, and green. The wavelengths of light that trigger the red cones and the green cones are relatively close together and overlap somewhat. Red - green colorblindness usually comes from cones that have a slight malfunction and are triggered by wavelengths that overlap even more than usual. This makes it hard for the eye to distinguish between red and green, because both the red cones and the green cones can be stimulated by similar wavelengths.
The glasses block out the wavelengths that overlap between the red and green cones. The eye then no longer gets confused by those overlapping wavelengths, because it can't see them anymore. This causes more distinction between red and green.
PerfectlyCorny noice
That actually makes more sense than the other comment which explains that the glasses create "a barrier" between the cones (which really seems odd to me).
Did you copy that off of Wikipedia?
Melanie Perrier just don't

I was taking the test with him and as someone with moderate-severe (idk what one it varies every time I take a test) deutan colorblindness, I can confirm that this was very difficult and that I did, in fact, bump my phone into my forehead on accident looking for a supposed 1 or 7

When all three colour sensing cones on your retina work, but they overlap when sensing certain wavelengths of light, it causes confusion for your brain hence certain colours looking very similar or not being able to see some colours all together. I believe this the type of colour blindness you have. The glasses just block the wavelengths that are crossing over into several cones. You’ll see what I mean if you type into google something along the lines of “colour vision wavelength graph” and see the lines crossing over. The glasses for normal colour people would just make Blue Green and Red more vibrant. I believe SciShow here on youtube did a video on these glasses.
My son has Strong deuteranopia color blindness. I've been looking for filters to adapt my stream to show what he sees. We've always been fans of yours, but I came across this video and was like NEAT ! Thank you for sharing your experience love!

SciShow has a video explaining how these EnChroma glasses work. It is more comprehensive than anything we can tell you in a comment section.
This was super funny to me because I recently found out that I'm mild red-green colorblind, so I was cackling at his confusion even though, if it was with blue and purple, I would like die!
Jack: Green
Also Jack: “I can’t tell which is green”
The glasses work by filtering out certain wavelengths of light. In normal color vision, three types of cone cells in the eye respond to red, green and blue wavelengths.
But in case of red-green color blindness, the red and green cone cells overlap so that the red cells also respond to a bit of the green wavelengths and the green respond to a bit of the red wavelengths.
In very simplified terms, you could say that red cells respond to dark red, red and bright red, while green cells respond to dark green, green and bright green.
But in people with red-green color blindness, the red cells respond to red, bright red and dark green and the green cells respond to bright red, dark green and green. But when those red cells get hit by dark green, since they're red cones, they'll report to the brain that red light is seen.
So for example when certain wavelengths of green hit the cone cells in the eyes, the green cells of course react to the light and tells the brain that green light has hit the eye. However, the red cells also incorrectly respond to the light, and tells the brain that red light has hit the eye.
Having received signals from both green and red cones, the brain produces an incorrect color composition.
The glasses "correct" this overlap, by filtering out all the green light that the red cones respond to incorrectly, and all the red light that the green cones respond to incorrectly.
This of course prevents the wearer from seeing these specific red and green colors, but allows seeing colors that previously were altered by incorrect perception of red and green.
They don't cure color blindness, but they definetly vastly improve it.
MulleDK19 LEGEND at explaining that. I basically have the same exact colorblindness as Jack (mild protanopia/protanomaly) and I've done TONS of research on colorblindness and getting the glasses for it. They're just so expensive though! My family and I known I'm colorblind since I was around 5 years old and now I'm 13 and I have money soo🤷♂️🤷♂️
How does it filter greens and reds for certain cones and still let those colors through and even make them more vibrant, it almost seems contradictory. You missing details on how the glasses do this. Is it really just redirecting the wavelength away from the overlapped cones or cutting the wavelengths complete from those cone. How are the glasses designed to know which cones to avoid and which cones to allow. This makes no sense to me seems like there's selling nonsense and hope the placebo effect takes over. Just my opinion, I don't have the full details anyways and I am interested since I too am mild protan.
It removes the overlapping colors. It prevents the range of wavelengths of light that the red and green cones misinterpret from entering, thus red cones won't ever see green, and green cones won't ever see red. The result is loss of certain wavelengths, but green colors will no longer be red, and red colors will no longer be green, allowing you to distinguish the colors.
the cure to colorblindness is
cloned eyes
MulleDK19 ah I see it's a sacrifice of one for the other. My question now is then, is it really improving anything? Just Seem more of like a trade off then a correction.
Guys, jacksepticeye and George are both protan colorblind
And JeromeAsf :)
Theyre both protan, but to different degrees.
Sean's is mild protan, George's is severe. George can't tell the difference between colors like green and yellow, or red and brown unless he looks at it for a few seconds and even then, it's still hard. Sean can still tell the difference, but colors are a bit muted.
River Has A Life And i’m in the middle, at moderate :D
As a colourblind person it is impossible to have the exact same amount of blindness but you can have very very very close
At 4:46 people are actually thinking that because they're not colour blind they should see the five right?
Well colour blind people don't only see things fainter and more saturated , fainted colours to us is clear to them.
So basically if we can see it and they can't then it also works vise versa

Me: jack it’s a 3!!!!!
using a monitor, as many know, every pixel is a blend of red green and blue, which can simulate any wavelength of visible light. So when you see orange on your monitor, its a combination of red and green wavelengths of light that would stimulate typical eyeballs in the same way the wavelength associated with orange would. because colorblind people's cones do not detect light in the same fashion, its not as straightforward for creating a color from RGB displays.
I would say the glasses filter some of the greens (and maybe blues) out to compensate for the lack of red, but because they work on a spectrum of colors, where every color is associated with a wavelength of light, it wont work on a display, where colors are a combination of three specific wavelengths, so they dont uniformly filter out colors as expected.
What streaming/gaming devs should do is make it possible to display colorblind settings for the streamer, and stream normal colors for viewers. Then if they were even better (idk if this is a feature or not already), they would be able to do post processing to stream the content in colorblind settings for any stream.
8:47 Sean: I see nothing
Me: THERE’S A ONE HOW DO YOU NOT SEE IT- oh
Jack: *proceeds to notice 5 of the same shade*
I see no one
You asshole
Is that the only one that you could see but he couldn't see? Because I have some bad news for you
@@samebro149 out of nowhere.
For anyone who sees this (Sean already figured it out and put it in his own comment+pinned it), colorblind glasses generally take around 15 minutes to actually show you any noticeable change. The people who put them on and immediately give some immediate dramatic response are just trying to get more views.
"You have Mild Deutan color blindness, also known as deuteranomaly, a type of red-green color blindness in which the green cones in the eye detect too much red light and not enough green light." This is my type of color blindness.
5:32 I could see every other number except this one, help? I can't see anything but grey
You might have to leave the glasses on for awhile too. If you've heard of the channel "Doodle Date," they had recently gotten a pair of enchroma glasses as well but you have to leave them on for a few minutes in order for them to work. I'm also super curious to see if the indoor glasses would make a difference as well. :P
Yay doodle date :)
Yeaaaaaa! :D
Yeah, Doodle Date!
Jack: that’s a four
Me that sees nothing except different coloured dots: excuse me!
Yeah...
as he said if u do lazy eyes u can kinda see it
But like 5% lighter or darker
schyfish it’s easy for me to see
same
8:05 9:08 9:56 I literally see nothing 😂
Edit: I know I'm some sort of colorblind because I've had several conversations with my roommates about seeing various colors incorrectly, the biggest being that we have a set of purple ceramic plates and bowls that to this day I swear up and down are brown 😅
Nah I can't see those too
Jack makes the best videos ever
It's so weird to watch colour blind Jack take the test and not able to see some of them because many people were able to see what's on the screen.
M V-PlAyEr i wasn’t for a lot of them, so apparently I’m mildly colourblind :/
It's hilarious sitting here going "OMG JACK THAT'S A 3!! THAT'S A 3!!", knowing full well he can't hear me. :'')
And when there's literally nothing and he goes "I can kinda see a 4 in there?" I just can't even.
Good thing doing CZcams doesn't require normal colour vision. =D
I have what Jack has
have you checked the website to see the ones you couldn't see? because i did and i ended up seeing them a lot better on the actual website than the video. not sure why but :/
What country do you live in? Personally people don't say "colour" that much in mine, they usually say "color".
Jack: sees nothing in circle
Me: *raging inside because I can see a number*
Bruh like I would do this these color blind test things and I am red/green or something like that, and when me and my sister would take the test she would know what is in the circle, and I would tell her to trace the number, and I would tell her she is tracing nothing. It sucks being colorblind.
@cITRIC ACId because he can see the number but Jack can't
i didnt even see 40% of them
I saw nearly all of them there was like 2 or 3 ones I saw like kinda lines but that was all I am not colourblind
Hey Sean! I just wanted to say that ur videos have been cheering me up through the hard times I’m going through currently my family are being threatened by someone saying they will involve CPS that’s all I’m gonna say though. SENDING LOVE FROM CANADA
I could see all the other numbers except for that first grey one where Sean pointed out a 5… that was a little wild
jack on christmas: there’s nothing here the lights are off
His name is actually Sean, just saying
@@khgaming8835 he goes by both. He doesnt mind.
insert [pam from the office picture corporate wants you to find the difference they are the same picture meme]
He will see the light and the colour
Behind the screen I'm just like: YES, YES, NOOOOO THAT'S WRONG! YES WAIT... GOD DANG IT JACK!
actually relatable. lol
yall are idiots
SAME!!
What?
IKR like those gray ones that actually had nothing and the gray ones that actually had numbers in then
Lmao me watching these like "ooh I love when Jack does these because I see everything and he doesn't so it's a funny haha!"
Also me: "ummmmm jack why can you see it how what where WHYYYYYYYY"
4:36
Jack: I can kinda see a five.
Me: *m o n o c h r o m e*
When jack doesn't see a number I do how weird this is so strange but those grey ones I see nothing
Let me fuck you up; there are no grey ones.
In the grey there r no numbers. That's the reason they have the 'nothing' option
@@darkxyno9165 there are sometimes, its just really hard to see it
me to
@@NaomiBarocsi oh god you've proper fucked me up now
Me: doesnt see some numbers and panics
Also me: takes the test
Me while taking the test:Ok so I saw everything.
Same
Same though. I didn't get the very obscure-looking ones he did, like the grey one where there was only a 2-shade difference between the number and the background.
Vexus you’re right
I think Robin tried to make it to where we see what he sees (a heads up would have been nice though I was freaking out)
Same! I had major trouble seeing the really colourful birthday cake-ish ones, but when taking the test those options didn't even appear
I do know that you have to leave the glasses on for at least 10 minutes before it really fully works, so it could be possible that since you keep putting it on and taking it off, it doesn't fully start working
I panicked through like half of this and then remembered that I turned on a different tint for my screen in my settings so I’m watching it again lol
The original jacksepticeye greeting is slowly disappearing
just wait for the come-back..
••• omg hes going back to the hello everybody like 3 years ago. ._.
Awe😔 true.
Well, this is not a game :/
But it's an interesting content :D
:( where me laddies at
I love how he says "hwite" but not "white"
☆
and hwale, instead of whale
english isn't my first language so after hearing jack say those made me copy him thinking that's how you pronounce them ..*DERP*
i have a dig bick he's irish
That's the Irish accent for ya.
I thought something else of your name...
I saw this video 3 years ago, and I saw all of these, but now I don't know why but I missed a bunch of these
the pale colourful one where sean was saying the glasses made it 3d or something, i could hardly see the first two and i couldnt see the last one at all lmfao
