Thanks to Idea Beans for the awesome design www.thingiverse...
Let me know if you can print it out on your 3D Printer?

This is the beginning of the end of the industrial age.

    • @Bigrignohio
      @Bigrignohio Před 9 lety +12

Perhaps the "Macro-industrial" age, requiring a long and expensive chain of plants to manufacturer many of the products we use (but not all). Think of it as the new "Micro-industrial" age, where that chain becomes much shorter. This speeds up the evolution of devices while reducing waste and transportation expenses.

The capabilities of 3d printing is endless as this video demonstrates. the ease of using any material to produce any item is just around the corner. With the aid of 3d scanners, any object can be reproduced and modified. This technology is outstanding and limited only by one's imagination and creativity.

RepRap is the first general-purpose self-replicating manufacturing machine.
It's a free desktop 3D printer capable of printing plastic objects. Since many parts of RepRap are made from plastic and RepRap prints those parts, RepRap self-replicates by making a kit of itself - a kit that anyone can assemble given time and materials. If you've got a RepRap - you can print lots of useful stuff, and you can print another RepRap for a friend... This idea came to light in 2005

Reminds me of my senior year in highschool, this was 10 years ago mind you. A company came with a 3d chalk printer for us to use as kind of a showoff/testing type of deal...not too sure on how it all worked out. Straight away I sat down and modeled up some ball bearings and that was it's first print job. It worked fairly well considering it was just chalk-based...I had fully expected it to not be capable of actually moving.

No problem. Each generation of the Reprap is given the name of some evolution/biology scientist. Real life stopped me from following it back when they were working on the "Darwin". They seem to have recently "forked", going down two paths. I admit the Prusa i3 (actually the i3V 10" by Makerfarm) looks awful tempting to try. One goal is to eventually have multiple print heads, being capable of printing the material, removable support material (paste), placing electronic components/imbedded wiring, etc. Still a long way from that lofty goal.

    • @marcstylzzz

Four years ago my money would have been on the Reprap group being the first to print complete devices. Now with all the other commercial systems hitting the market I am not so sure who will be first. However I have no doubt the commercial systems will require proprietary EVERYTHING. Material cartridges, software, product print files, etc. Reprap is more the Linux of the replication world, a place that is open-source and everyone can play with it.

That's very impressive. I just want to point out a couple things, as most people now write as though they never had an English class. You wrote "Let me know if you can print it out on your 3D Printer?" This is not a question. This is an imperative sentence. It should end with a period. Also, you titled the video "impossible" 3D print. The fact that you did print it means it is possible. Please correct your English mistakes and keep up the good work.

the expectation for 3D printers is that one day it will beable to make human organs for transplants so we dont need donators

This technology is going to usurp so much industry, and put so many people out of work! One day we'll be printing microchips, phones, computers, even entire houses, organs and food! I fully expect to see a shortage of jobs brought on by this technology, but it's so fantastic at the same time! :)

solidoodle - They probably have the best quality 3D printers for the price. That being said, they're only cheap compared to other 3D printers. They're about 500-800 USD, where as other ones are upwards of thousands.

I do know that it's accelerated. It's faster than any other 3D printer, he shows the actual time a few times in the video.

We will eventually be able to print toys for our children/ourselves and then when we are done playing with them, we can melt them down and make new things.

My girlfriends grandfather is an engineer and likes to bring over mechanical style brain teasers. I'd really like to get a 3D printer just to make an un-solvable one just to see his reaction...

No, your the second one to say that, I say it's impressive because it's a ~2000$ 3D printer and it's really precise

    ...for now.
The will only become cheaper with time and I for one don't think the production times are too bad.
