So...I suck. The one video a week dream lasted all of two videos on my initial attempt. Life things happened, along with future planned videos massively increasing in scope...this video is not the only thing I've been working on in the last 5 weeks! I've been filming things for the deep dive into specific topics along with working on the big 2019 CTWC video. I wish I could get these big projects out faster, unfortunately stuff like animation just takes so darn long. This video was a trial run on filming a live analysis of a match without a script or anything - I learned a lot about what to do better for next time! I'll really be trying to get the next videos up as soon as I can.
You're fine honestly, take your time and don't worry about rushing it
Finding your video on the Tetris 2018 World Championship is like that rare youtube video find that you get when you've been browsing but its the same old stuff and then you sit down for almost an hour watching an amazingly edited video. The system in place gives more credit to CZcamsrs who pump out videos every day, but the best videos are the ones you put time in to make. Thank you, I can wait as long as you like.
When you said weekly videos I was like “OOF that’s going to be rough. I hope he doesn’t burn himself out.”
Like the others said, I really don’t care if you have a consistent upload schedule. Make videos as you want. Make videos you’re proud of. I think you’ll find much more satisfaction in uploading (say) once a month a quality video than every week a mediocre video.
Keep up the great work! We’ll wait patiently
(^∇^)
I really like the analysis videos. While watching Greentea analysis stream - it was hard not to notice you also being there. Then i wondered what video you would do next, but did not ask - just to avoid any pressure. And now the next video appears - an analysis video of your own :D. Excellent! Interesting to see a less skilled (relatively speaking. if you want some easy wins - play against me x_x) perspective. Cheers.
I'll copy paste my post in the other video in case it was drowned down:
Dude, the way you do your story telling is amazing! I didn't even realize I've been watching the last video for nearly an hour until you mentioned it.
I know trying to do weekly videos would be good for you but I hope it's not at the expense of the quality of your videos. The last video is great, and so was the video before that explaining CWTC. My personal preference is for you to just put out videos at your own comfortable pace and keep the quality consistent. Thank you, and keep it going!
I like how you drew where the pieces should go, really helped making your reasoning easy to follow!
You make the best Tetris faces! My favorite part was "GRR, but then I realize this is Tetris and I don't wanna look too angry, so then I smiled 😃"
Don’t apologise for the upload schedule. Quality takes time :)
Quaid is the best! His match up with Joseph at the end of this West coast Qualifier was supper funny. "this is the first time I have played Tetris sober in ten years"
"unpredictable" is far too kind
I prefer handsome
I prefer entertaining as fuck
@@I_am_QUAID you sort of remind me of the vocalist in this band called the front bottoms, Brian Sella.
"I suck" mean while i'm here, with no confidence to start playing nes tetris since i'm getting to levels 15 in tetris party getting worse and worse boards. Man you managed to hyper tap in level 19, i already respect you for that.
> levels 50 in tetris party
wait, what mode
@@meta04 lol misspelled hard there! Thanks
oh right
I mean, level 15 in modern games isn't _really_ that bad…
like, it's faster than NES 29 in terms of raw gravity, but the fact that lock delay is 30 times longer makes it easy enough to survive at level 15 at the very top
@@meta04 this is why i compared myself to himself. I can't get clean boards in level 15 modern Tetris, that has 7 previous, hold, 7bag random and the delay to lock, and the guy hypertaps in 19...
Hey I suck too, but I just bought a NES system online. I’d say go for it because you’re not going to be alone through your experience. I’ll be right there sucking with you!!!
Imagine David being the winner of the tournament in 3 or 4 years. These videos will be worth a million.
yknow I just wanna come here to remind you that while you may feel bad for ”overpromising” as far as consistency of uploads, you have absolutely nothing to feel bad for. your effort in and love for this coverage can’t be understated, and people know it takes time. You’ve been doin a great job. Happy new year :)
Thank you, I appreciate that. Had some unexpected life turbulence in the past two months but I'm finally working on some new videos right now.
Keep it up brother. I actually caught the TWC finals stream last week. It's all because of the 2018 recap video you made, so thanks for introducing me to such a great community. The finals were so wholesome with Koryan and Joseph. Their both amazing players. I couldn't decide who I wanted to win more! Thanks again man, looking forward to your upcoming videos. Happy holidays. Edit - Your facial expressions are priceless. I was cracking up.
There are so many things to love about your facial expressions during the match XD Dude, you're the best!
15:50 S flat all the way right, like a delayed S-Spin. That way, if you get S-bursted, you can spire them horizontally instead of vertically, and you only burn 1 line.
You’re totally right, thanks for pointing that out! I’ll have to remember that in the future.
aGameScout No problem!
@@CheezTetris So that's better than putting it vertically on 7-8 and setting up a tuck... I'll try to remember that too.
Seems you are too worried about having a perfect stack so that every time you make a move that's not ideal you panic rather than just moving on.
Notice Quads is the exact opposite of that
Quaid is an agent of chaos
@@DooDee0608 true in a way. Quaid is probably better than anyone at playing with a less than ideal board. Most just fix their board and go back, he just keeps playing and doesn't worry about it
@@moetthepoet Jani too. That guy does not fear digging.... at all! You give him a messy board, and he probably finds a way to dig himself out of it.
@@HoshinoMirai it's kinda different though. Yani digs himself out and returns to the classic right well. Quaid doesn't seem to care where his well is
Yay a video
Just take your time 1 video every month is ok
You have so many talents- music, Tetris, videography, oh my gosh I love this channel
Nice analysis! I think another option for the S piece at 16:18 is to place it flat all the way to the right greentea style. It's a bit more agressive but it only requires one line burn.
Hey, your animated video was my introduction to your channel and I really liked it! I know how much work animation can be so I especially appreciated the hard work that must have gone into it. Keep up the good work.
David: I can totally relate to everything you explained in your analysis. I started to play kinda "seriously" 2 weeks ago and I'm having the same issues and I have the same "mindset" when playing like you here, but on level 15, instead of level 18. I can score tetrises on 15 as long I keep my stack kinda low, but once I hit the transition to 16, 17 and 18, I only try to clean up the board and survive as long as I can.
The only way to improve is to keep practicing. Play, play and play more and your mind will start to process all the information to stack the pieces faster and faster.
Keep your videos coming!
@Manuel Salokangas That was very nice of you! I will check batfoy's videos! I'm a bit stuck right now in this level and I'm making the same mistakes over and over again. But I think that's expected... I have to continue playing and adding little things here and there to slowly improve my stacking and how fast I think for the placement of the pieces.
I was at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo this year and 2019 has seen a BIG jump on the level of the players. Now we have like 20 people maxing out the game... Crazy!
Oh my, I totally remember watching this live! I even knew watching you then that there just seemed to be a lot of panic that first game, I knew that if I would qualify for something this big I would also probably have some poor decision making at the start. I really enjoyed this video and hopefully if they're easier for you to make then I would say keep on doing it, but I can't wait for that vlog on the 2019 CTWC and I'm not the only one. As well, great explanation on the double wide well tactic you use, it's something that I use so much and I feel is very much disregarded by new players! Again great video and can't wait for more content!
Thanks! Yeah I think video analysis of matches may be the way to go for regular uploads. Even the smaller special projects I start working on just get out of control too fast xD I'm sure you know. Can't imagine how much time it takes to edit the intros of your videos and looking forward to more content from you as well!
I still don't understand why you only have 9k subs; the quality of your videos deserve way more!
Hey, I love your videos on the CTWC. I watched the 2018 final and was entertained, but your original video was what got me invested in the whole classic Tetris affair. Even if you haven't managed the 1 video a week thing, I still want to see more. Thanks for these videos, and please make more of them.
Your videos are awesome! I love Classic Tetris and I found your video on the CTWC website... So here I am. :)
You gave a fantastic overview of the championship! Hope there are much more videos coming ^^
Nice analysis! Your videos do a great job of explaining classic Tetris, but seeing how a new player vs. an experienced player match up really showcases the difficulty of this game. Watching the pros makes the game look way easier than it actually is for someone who's never played before, so watching an amateur gives me a newfound appreciation for what elite players are able to do.
Good video, glad to see you still uploading here. Regardless of how often you upload here, I'll always be looking forward to the vids as they come!
Great analysis and fun video!! Looking forward to more videos soon (whenever you get the time, don't worry about how quickly you do it!)
I am glad you enjoyed your games and are proud of your play. It os heartwarming.
I got interested about a year ago about watching tetris games. Watching somebody's progression is really nice to watch. Keep it up!
Always a pleasure seeing your videos, no need to rush em (:
yay content :D love watching your videos, the 26 minutes were over way faster than i thought they would, keep it up with your great work! i feel like you got some people into playing/watching this game including me ^^
Just take the pace you like for videos and go exploring whatever type of video you think you'll like making!
Consider the work you've done for your "experience in tetris" video and others, you're probably a strong enough critic of yourself to put out good videos regardless of what you do, even if it might take time. So just you enjoy making videos!
That aside, really loved this commentary on your game! As a non tetris player, games are usually too fast for me to even grasp what might be going on in a player's mind (let alone that I never learnt strategies) so it's really really interesting to watch!
I can't remember if you mentioned your interaction with Kwaid in your other videos but I would have been curious to know his reaction after this match. Since you said you were a new player so he wasn't sure what to expect and played aggressively.
Great video, very interesting for new people in the tetris community like me!
This was awesome! I really love the analysis--it's so helpful. Yeah yeah, you may think you're mediocre, and maybe there some truth in that in the context of the CTWC, but you're still competing there. Your analysis and and explanations are immensely helpful for the vast majority of viewers here. I would love if you would make more analysis/theory videos. I feel like if you made a series on concepts, your channel would blow up even more. You have an amazing talent for presenting and explaining
You're audio level management is really good in this video. Keep up the great editing :)
Thanks! One of the invisible things that takes a bunch of work
Great video! It's always fun to hear what's inside a player's mind during a game!
About the big CTWC 2019 video, giving the quality of the 2018 video, I think we can all wait a few months to see such a great video on this amazing edition of the tournament 👍
Love your videos! Your smile is great, makes you look super kind 😊
One or two videos about the CTM events may be cool
Yes, I definitely want to talk about the CTM!
i want to see you talk abou harry, jonas, kerr, and jeff's early eliminations on the next video :)
Much Respect from Brazil.
Caralho achei um br que acompanha o cenário de Tetris ahsuqhysa (nunca achei que iria ver campeonato disso na minha vida, mas aqui estamos e to viciado em Tetris btw)
Jonas was the only big surprise. The other players are good players but we haven't seen them play at an elite level in live or internet tournaments in the past year.
Dois BR que acompanham Tetris de NES? Já dá pra organizar um campeonatinho, hein?
@@vitorkk328 o terceiro também?
@@eninn Com certeza! Tô começando ainda, minha melhor pontuação eh de uns 330.000, mas pra brincar a gente podia jogar msm hahahah
thanks, your perspective was very helpful to me, a 500k player who's trying fancy moves too often and don't have a "safe" mindset. Might help me play better on 18 for sure!
aGameScout, you're a far better player than I am and you know very well that you have no real time to think - it's all instinct at that point.
All you can do is further develop you instincts and hope that they will serve you well in a live tournament situation.
Hope to see you in a future CTM!
Another great video
I was waiting for one ofr vids
Great video man
No need to apologise for the upload schedule, quality over quantity any day of the week :)
14:00 XD I think that may have been a compliment honestly. How you take it and how heather meant it, honestly hard to know in the moment when it’s a couple of years later but I take to mean “for his first stage experience, he’s been able keep pace pretty well so far”, if you know what I mean?
Hey @aGameScout! I really enjoyed this video. It's really interesting to see your perspective on this game and to shine some light on this topic. I have a video suggestion that would be really interesting. I always wonder what its like when a classic Tetris player delves into the world of guideline Tetris. It would be really cool to see but I understand if it doesn't float your boat! Anyways, awesome vid.
I would love to do that at some point! I want to review other versions of tetris.
@@aGameScout That's awesome! When you do decide to embark on this journey. You can hit me up and I'll introduce you to all the folks!
Even though this video is 6 months old I hope you read this comment it is definitely useful for any level of player to tell the audience what the thinking during the moment play-by-play as a Tetris player I find that extremely helpful and I thank you
Welcome back! :)
I love your channel man
I hope you can get better next time and see you in the future CTWC more.
A question for the 6:41 problem, if you rotate the I piece counter clockwise (possibly pressing B), would it be in the correct position? I don't play classic Tetris, but this works for modern Tetris. If that doesn't work, then never mind. For 21:39, I think there's an alternative solution where you place the T piece flat, so at least the next J will have a better position. (Of course, nobody knows whether you'll get S/Z burst since this game is evil ;P)
Ben Mullen said two things in the "Ecstasy of order" documentary: "The only way to practice for Tetris is to build for Tetris on Level 19. Of course this means you will top out a lot."
The other thing he said: "You pracice the best when you are nearly dead in Tetris. If you aren't, are you really practicing?" (he was talking about how to train your decision making).
Also, Jonas said something interesting. Bascially you have to allow yourself to get the board dirty. Put Z and S pieces where they don't really fit, and clean in up later. Because if you do that, you'll prevent building spirals.
My only problem is that I don't have a NTSC NES at home (and no NTSC TV). I can only play NTSC Tetris on an emulator, which really sucks. The PS4 controllers are okay, but it's really not the same thing. Sometimes the input lag is very noticable.
And PAL Tetris... well, I can play comfortable on level 15, but level 16 and above is too fast for me (it's comparable to level 19 speed in NTSC), and the PAL controls are very sloppy. It's incredibly hard to get the pieces in the right colum with DAS.
I think I didnt see you on the ctwc 2019 board? Whats your score qualifying?
Thanks for this analysis. I never realized that 5 pieces could be cleanly burned in the double-wide well!
I wonder: are there players who do hypertapping below level 19? DAS seems so unforgiving.
Hypertappers usually never use DAS, at least I know that Joseph and Koryan are always hypertapping even at level 18, it can really give a big advantage when the stack gets high
So here it is!
@15:50 you could drop for a tuck on row 9 above the white getting your right side well and with the red s coming up, that's an easy tuck chance since it's two blocks high, no?
yay you're back!
Love it!
top 8 maybe in 2020?? man i know you can do it. i believe in you!! go for it.
The video we’ve been waiting for
Another great video! Say, what's your PB now?
STILL stuck at 699k, unfortunately haha. I just haven't put that much time into PB attempts. My 19 PB is what's improved a lot over the past year (from 170k to 420k)
@@aGameScout that's pretty good tho 👀
Your Facial expressions are the best 😂
Never take in the moment until the game is over. You're playing Tetris! Focus!
Fun to watch though.
Thank you for the analysis, I really appreciate it. Now I realize how crazy hard it is to reach Joseph level. As a watcher, I can only shout "Oh no, why not put the piece there". But then, after watching this analysis, I realized that I know nothing about this game. I thought what makes you guys amazing is only because you carefully plan to get as many tetris as you can. But it turns out it's really hard to just execute those plans, even without thinking about where should the next piece be placed.
Now I have more respect to all of you guys. And I'm glad that I found this community. Even though I only watch you guys, it already makes me happy. The whole community inspires me on so many different things, not just about Tetris, but also about life in general.
sweet!
Damn your vids are quality
I reccomend that you dont worry too much about the extra line for burning I know it's a good strat but having a jagged board is not that bad worrying too much about the extra line could cause miss drops and it's kind of a dependency if you think about it
Quaid is fantastic. Love that dude, he's a riot!
The facial expressions are amazing lol.
Can someone help me where to buy a console to play cartridge games. Would like to play them all again. use to have it (i still have them) but it doesnt work.. :/
Today is my bday! I consider this a present! I really want to do NES Tetris but I’m stuck on 3DS
while you wait for the best time to get an actual nes cart, i recommend getting an emulator on computer, it's not the best but it still gets you warmed up to the speed/mechanics/strategies and such before getting the actual game.
@Dogeyness thanks for the advice!
I just started playing at level 18 on the regular. I can't get much anywhere right now. I was hoping for a gradual transition from 0 to 18 only to discover there is a massive speed jump between 15 and 16 and that 16's speed is the same as 18. You don't suck dude. You can survive at 18 for some time. I barely make it 30 seconds some times.
Quaids always been a natural, Jonas only criticism of him I ever heard was he thinks Quaid doesn't practice enough. I think hes right.
What I noticed from Highlights to 2019 championships was some newblood at top 40
the enemy can't know what you're doing, if you don't know what you're doing
4:50 another cool play with the long bar here is to actually lay it flat and lay it on the right side for a clean soft clear
What software do you use to draw on the video?
I used epic pen!
meabe it's too late but what i think would be the best move in 24:26 was to put the J all the way to the right. I know that you woudn't burn any line with that move, but with that you have to burn 1 line after instead 2.
Note: the move that i said could be the best with that T coming next ;) :P
I would recommend wearing headphones and ignoring the commentary. I saw too many players get distracted by the commentators in CTWC, newcomers and veterans alike (including both finalists).
love the mic but id say to not talk to the top of the mic but the face of it. you will hear the difference! =D good video btw! i love the content
you're right! I'll do that next time with my mic
aGameScout but really your content is one of my fav! Even got me to start playing. Your very professional and seems like a super nice guy. I hope you keep up the amazing work
What does the screen for a competitor look like? Do you get to see the green/red score?
Let's Chat it just looks like a normal game screen without any modifications. I don’t know the opponents score unless I look over or the announcer says something
I can barely pass 19-0 on B type so I'm already impressed
just wondering, were you looking at the next piece box at all?
All the players always do! It is actually so vital that when even the best players try to play with it disabled, they sometimes can't score a single tetris
Speedself yeah, I knew Jonas, Koryan etc all looked at it, since I’ve seen their commentaries, but Scout didn’t rly mention it at all during his commentary so I was wondering specifically for him if he did or not
@@HenryZhoupokemon True, I noticed that he didn't talk about it as well
wheres joseph appriciative comments?
Who us Kwaid? Who are you?
Try to hypertap with your right hand. It's way easier! You just need to find a way to hold the controller.
At least you got pass 19, I can't even play 19 well. I tap so slowly
You're well qualified to analyze the games of other pros. It's well understood that they are bound by the speed and their skill as they're playing, given your ability (during review) to stop the time, you're not bound by either. Commentators/analysts just need to understand the game (limitations, rules, abilities), they don't necessarily have to be the best players themselves. (as true in all sports).
Why do you not share rng ?
Where to watch koryan game commentary?
Grzegorz Krukar link in the description!
gg
wheres the 2019 ctwc man :(((
Did jonas participate on this tournament? :/
I miss Jonas
"oh fuck" new shirt
This is gonna be quick analys... *video length 26:05 :''
Does quaid have a twitch or yt?
Yes he streams with TotalRadNES
honestly my first goal would be not to misplace the first piece
That was great thanks.. What is the meaning and etymology of the phrase "delayed burn"?
Ops I realised your fucking awesome
Well, you may not have won, but at least your face was entertaining ;p😂😂
