  • This Video is an attempt to demonstrate how:
    A non Go-To Telescope can be converted into a Push-To telescope.
    I personally have struggled a lot in finding the deep sky object and earlier used
    Compass app + Digital protector for Alt Az coordinate system before i made this PushTo system (video Link below)

    You're my new hero. I've been trying this off and on for awhile now. My old phone had the compass and magnometer and accelerometer. My new one doesn't.
    I just ordered a new Nexus 7 tablet and it arrives tomorrow. It has all the required sensors too.
    Next I will download SkEYE or Stellarium and then use my tablet to find what I want.
    I will have to mount it properly of course but I should be able to figure it out.
    Awesome video.

      Just ensure your adaptors to mount nexux7 has more aluminium and plastic for Magnetometer to work properly.

    In theory and in some scenarios this approach works ok but there are caveats with the greatest being the strong magnetic influence of the OTA (optical tube assembly) which in most examples are of metal construction and therefore affect the accuracy of the compass in the smart phone which even if initially properly calibrated still goes off. But in situations where the OTA is of carbon fibre composite this setup offers a good alternative. For years I’ve been using the larger version of the Telrad which has worked well for me. Thank you

    • @ASTROindi
      @ASTROindi  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes magnetic interference is an issue but I guess the bracket and spacers are of aluminium reducing the impact. The contribution of OTA cannot be ignored. I have validated this in another video, capturing Venus and Saturn.

    This is brilliant! Thanks for sharing, always looking for alternatives to a red dot or traditional finder scope. Nice outside-the-box thinking! 👏

      Thanks, I am glad you liked it. The app also has choices of oculars like Telrad.
      I had opportunity to test it yesterday, will be posting a video on the pros and cons.

      It is same product, only the mobile holder is used in this case, when I want to mount my mobile on telescope for eyepiece projection photography, then I use the whole assembly as seen on Amazon.

    should you not be aware of magnetic metals near the smartphone. Also a recalibration of the smartphone may be needed (moving it aroun all axes)
